Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club is situated in Calabash, N.C. a scenic fishing village. The mature woodland landscape provides a secluded and relaxing setting that is ideal for a round of golf. Though it may be peaceful, you still have to be on your toes with plenty of water hazards and sand traps lurking throughout this traditional layout. Mature trees line the fairways, requiring even further accuracy. The golf course is known for its natural crater lakes, which make an appearance on several holes. It is a course that rewards strategy and skill over brute strength. The holes will make you think, but overall Carolina Shores is a forgiving golf course that is playable for all skill levels, especially with five sets of tees ranging from 6,085 yards to a lengthy 6,755 yards.

You get what you pay for!
Let's just say that we paid $15 to play this in need of help track. The pace of play was beyond slow. For some reason, my guess the need of money, the course booked tee times in the middle of a golf scramble. When we went to the first tee box there were seven groups on the first hole. Once it cleared, well it did not clear. I call it hit and wait, wait, wait, wait, and hit golf. The course condition was perfect for the $15 cost. Honestly, you can't expect more. If you just want to swing, this is your place. If you care about the quality of the course, run.
A Hidden Gem
Certainly value for your dollar. We enjoyed every minute and are playing it 3 times while we are here. Staff is laid back and friendly. Would recommend it to anyone as a warm up to spring golf up north.
Good value for the money and early season golf.
Very good value - played five days in a row - avg. cost about $20. Quite a good layout, although conditioning could be better. However, for early season golf we were very pleased.
Potential
I got a tee time for $14 at Carolina Shores. It was an average course. The cart paths definitely need repaving, but the fairways were okay, greens were a decent speed, and the rough was okay for winter. The tee boxes were overseeded and kept fairly long, but it was not a big deal. For the price, I would do it again!
This course is good value for the money. We played in 4 hours.
It's good value for the money. The course is dated and needs attention on the cart paths and greens.
An enjoyable round of golf.
Very playable course in good shape. Great value for the money.
Only complaint is yardage marked on tees very different from scorecard and not sure that either was right.
My experience was good with this course
The day I played, it was not busy. The course was in quite good condition. The staff were friendly. Before I played, I read some reviews, some of them were not very kind. However, I find this course was worth playing.
Cart paths desparately need attention. Underground roots have heaved the asphalt paths to an unhealthy degree.
Paid great price through GolfNow, as usual. The course does require more attention, The cart paths are in extremely poor condition. Golf shop was rather cool to my wife and I. The restaurant staff were much nicer.
New course to me. Cart paths could use attention.
This course was a great value. It had been raining for a few days by the time I played there for the first time, so it was very wet and very muddy. Nonetheless, the course has great character and is somewhat challenging, the conditions obviously made it more so. All in all you can not beat the price. Superb value.
good time for the money
Will play again. Short yet it has a few extremely difficult/challenging holes
Fun course to play.
Course was in very good condition for February. I found the course a lot of fun to play with great lies in the fairway and fast pace of play. Staff were friendly and facilities like a seperate chipping green with a sand trap were excellent. It was a good test with plenty of bunkers and water on some holes but the water was always off to the side from the white tees.
Great course just across in NC
Great course with the right amount of water and sand traps. Plays well for different skill levels. We'll be back!
steadily improving conditions
Not one of the over priced resort style courses on the strand. A great deal for the price. Course does hold water, so cart path only after a rain is a strong possibility. Played in January and again this December, and the improvements are very evident. Many trees have been removed and many more are marked for removal, many near the cart paths, which hopefully means that cart path improvements are in the future.
This course has some very interesting holes.
We played Carolina Shores for the first time in a few years. It was very well configured ( eliminated some sand traps). The cart paths were terrible but overall very well maintained. The staff was very friendly .
The course is a good layout with a few challenging holes.
This course is a good layout that must have had some economic problems. The first indication is the pro shop that has barely no inventory - and maybe a total of 6 sleeves of balls for sale. Next, they had no carts available for about 10 minutes, and the. The cart attendant brought one out that he warned us had no working parking brake. The cart paths are the absolute worst I have ever experienced-if you have a bad back, I would steer clear. What made it worse is that it was cart path only due to the overseeing. The greens were pretty bumpy, too. The routing was acceptable, and there were some challenging holes. I got a $20 with a cart deal and thought it was a good deal, but I would be leery of paying much more for this course.
Player friendly course, good condition for November
Great deal from Golf Now. Over seeding had just been done so I was a little disappointed that we had to play cart path only but the overall experiance of the course made me forget about it.
Nice style of course layout.
Although the greens had been overseeded within last few days (early Nov)the course gave a good account of itself.Definately value for money due to great deal on Golfnow.com. Staff very obliging and curtious.
Lots of Sand
Course has a moderate number of hazzards and is of senior friendly length. Staff is super friendly.
