Great place to play- Photo submitted by goody39420 on 04/18/2013
Nice Course
This was my first time playing here. A well kept course. Fairways were nice but the greens were very hard and very fast. Most of the time when you hit ur ball on the green it rolls on forever which was frustrating. My biggest complain for this course is that I played 18 holes and didn't see the beverage cart at all, not even once! And that's cause we started playing at 12:30pm on a Saturday. I was dying for some beverages and food out there. I was told at the turn that there was a beverage cart out there but never saw it.
This course has a great layout in a beautiful setting
My golf partner and I really enjoyed our experience at this course. the surrounding landscaping was fantastic. There were plenty of challenges and each hole had a new and different look.
Nice Place
Well established course, good condition with very fast greens. A little out of the way but the views are worth the drive.
Incredibly scenic and fun track
First time playing here... Made a 2:20 tee time 50 minutes prior to and jumped in the car. The only real negative of this course is the drive to get there, but ultimately worth the drive.
First and foremost the views are gorgeous. Up in the mountains, air actually clean, and very fun layout.
Fairway conditions are well above average for the greater Sacramento area. The rough is typical grass, but it is thick. I lost two balls that were only about 10 yards off the fairway, but just couldn't find them. There was a lot of loose clippings floating on top so I'm betting the balls were hiding underneath.
The greens rolled very pure, and I'd probably compare to Apple Mountain's greens (faster than most in the area). They are cut extremely tight and it looks like they may roll them. They were a little inconsistent in terms of how they receive the ball though. I had two balls spin over 10 feet back with a PW, and had a ball release about 5 feet with a full SW. Most of the greens though your long irons two hop stop and wedges back up a bit.
Minimal interaction with staff, just checking in. The restaurant did close early, but the bartender was nice enough to offer to make me a sandwich, so solid customer service there.
The main negative, which seems to be very common to greater Sac area is the lack of sand in traps. Granted I can only speak of the one trap I was in, but it only had about 1/2 inch of loose sand over very packed wet sand. Just don't open the face up too much and you'll be fine.
All in all this is definitely a course I will return to. If you can spare the time for the trip to and fro, it's worth it. It's beautiful, very green, and very fun.
P.S. Be careful when driving up to clubhouse. Ten tee box hits right over the road you'll drive in on. Tee box is on your left on entry, be sure no one is hitting or that they see you (pretty sure alcohol was part of the design of that hole :)
Beautiful course
First time playing this course and I can't wait to go back!
rainy day
Found out there would be no Rain Check from buying online from Golf.com, but they got me off early and it cleared up and the course is beautiful !
beutifull view
was a great experiance playing on that course is very nice and i would go back for my revange to get better score
Great setting.
Very nice course, friendly staff, overall, good experience.
Nice foothills course
Nice course: Quick, undulating greens make putting a premium here. Beautiful surroundings and somewhat hilly make club selection important. Not always in pristine condition, but in generally good shape. It's a fun place to play and a great value.
pace of play to slow for amount of people on course
Liked course. Didn't like that pace of play was extremely slow
No marshalls to speed up slow groups in front.
The course and host staff were very good.
I was taken care of with kindness and professionally.
Wheres the green grass?
Having played Darkhorse & The Ridge Golf courses, I was expecting a lush and beautiful course, but it wasnt. Im not sure if their spinkler system is out of order, but the grass in the fairway and rough was semi green to yellow.I did have a good time, they do have one thing going for them-the greens are extremely quick and true.
Course is nice, but...
The course was very nice and interesting to play, but they overbooked and we almost didn't get to play. Members who were there said they overbook all the time!
The greens are in great shape!
Great value for this course! The only draw back is the driving range area is too small and I find it sad that their range balls are all various kinds that probably are found on the course.
Clickish members.
I expected more from a course that is semi private. For the beautiful Auburn area, I expected a more green and lush, maintained course. I can get over that, but...
...for lack of words, this course seemed very clickish. I don't think that the members are to welcoming to non members. They were less than gentelmenly in a gentlemans sport. Management needs to put their members in check, or they will put them out of the ball game.
I most likely will not be returning, and I only live 12 mins away.
True greens with tight fairways
The greens are always in perfect shape. The tee shots were rolling good in the fairways. The trees are changing colors and the deer were about. Just a beautiful golf course.
Beautiful grounds
We loved playing this course. Every hole has the natural beauty of
ponds filled with water fowl and views of the mountains and the farm lands surrounding the property. Deer roam freely, but are not intrusive. Well maintained greens and fairways. This course is divergent enough to keep you coming back again and again.
A wonderful relaxing view of the grounds from the clubhouse and the food here is always really good.
Great fairways that are well maintained.
A perfect day for 18 holes on a well maintained course.
A challenge and a joy to play.
Auburn Valley is a joy to play. Tucked into the foothills, the course challenges players with relatively lenthy par 4's, sloping fairways and well-placed bunkers. No two holes are alike and many holes require precise drives to avoid water hazards or difficult second shots. Missed shots can easily find OB or difficult lies, and the course requires focus and consistent good play to achieve a low score.
Difficult but a nice course
We were members there about 30 years ago. A lot of changes were made and all for the better.
Only complaint was the breaks on the cart.
Overall a great day and will play there again.
