Robert Trent Jones Jr

The course designer's name says it all. This Trent Jones Jr course is very challenging yet fair. There are many short par 4's that are the true definition of risk-reward holes. The course is in great shape. The only negative comment would be all of the goose droppings on one of the greens on the back nine. Had a great time and played in less than 4 hours on a Wednesday afternoon. Would recommend to all who love playing a beautiful course that may increase your handicap.

fun course to play

This is a very fun course to play. As with any course you need to play from the proper tees to match one's ability. Very nice setting and good food in the clubhouse.

foothill setting

a course with many different teeing grounds for all levels
of play. challenges include water, sand, sloping fariways, and undulating greens. only problem i found was the pace of play
was furnereal. as the 3rd group out on a friday morning i would
expect to take no longer than 4 hours. ran 45 minutes longer.
gps system was the best i've seen. only reason for this slow a pace must be the cart policy which greatly restricts where the carts are permitted. anyone who likes golf will enjoy the challenge of the ridge if they can put up with the slow pace.

Foothill Beauty

Course was absolutely beautiful. Elevation changes were vey interesting-a lot of uphill second shots(but carts have gps..). Each hole has its own character and you get the feeling that youre playing through natural meadows, with a secluded feeling...Pristine track with a grumpy shop worker, which i didnt mind but...

Fun course!

Great course. We played on a Monday afternoon so it was pretty fast. They recently punched the greens so we got on for $25 which was a great deal even with sandy greens. Be in the fairway and take the elevations into account.

MEGA CHALLENGE WITH VERY FAST SLOPPING GREENS

WE WERE PLEASED TO GET AN EARLY TEE TIME - SINCE THIS WAS OUR 1ST TIME AT THIS COURSE & KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT - WE WOULD HAVE DONE THIS DIFFERENTLY - AS WE DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A GOOD SIZED MENS GROUP ON OUR HEELS FROM ABOUT THE SECOND HOLE ON. EVERYONE WE CAME IN CONTACT WITH WERE RECEPTIVE TO THE NEWBEES. ROUGH ALONG THE FAIRWAYS WAS TALL COMPARED TO SOME OTHER COURSES BUT WE MANAGED AS BEST WE COULD.

Need to putt well.

The ridge is a challenging course. If you get off the fairway you will be in trouble fast. There are several sand traps along the way. The greens are easy to three putt if you are not careful. If you manage to finish your round with the same ball you started with you have had a good day.

Foothill golf close to Sacramento and the Sierra's.

This course is hilly and challenging and definitely lives up to your expectations for a foothill golf experience. The GPS on the golf carts makes pace of play much faster than without. Scenery is beautiful with no homes facing the course as yet. The clubhouse has an elevated view of the 10th fairway and a good menu for dining in.

This course has lots of uphill and downhill fairways that require good course management for rookies.

It would have been a great day, except for the smoky conditions due to a forest fire that was within 30 miles of the course. The smoke travels downhill out of the Sierras every evening and doesn't go away until after 2:00pm. Golf was great and a challenge for rookies, but the smoke made for watery eyes.

Need precision to master this course

You need precision and a little bit of shot shaping off the tee to score well here. Oak trees and bunkers pinched in on some of the landing areas so it visually appears tight on many holes.
The greens were slower than expected, and with the heat, some spots were too soaked with water to dig in a wedge. It was a very good test. I was surprised the par 3's were all roughly the same length. This was my first time out there .. you need a few times out to master it I think. As mentioned, there is water and rocky scrub (rattlesnake heaven) on numerous holes
that can cause fits if you are having a less-than-accurate day with your shots. Lots of variety in hole shapes and elevations.
