The 18-hole Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina is a public golf course that opened in 1994. Designed by Tim Cate, Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation measures 7089 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 140 and a 73.7 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens are bent and the fairways are bermuda.
Panther's Run was born to be a different kind of challenge than Lion's Paw. Golf course designer Tim Cate has unleashed this cat to prowl along the edge of a natural preserve and continually tests your ability to stay out of, or hit over, the surrounding marsh land. Wide fairways that twist and turn with a variety of elevations, plus scenic water features blend perfectly.
The front nine picks its way through hardwood forest while the back nine is more open. The course is laid out along the edge of a natural preserve and tests golfers' ability to negotiate the surrounding marsh land and water. The fairways twist and turn and show a variety of elevations, as much as 60 feet in fact.

Spotty greens
The greens had some area that were in very bad shape.
Fortunately the pins were not near those areas. It's early in the year, but we had played another nearby course 2 days earlier and their greens were excellent. Fairways were nice. When you get off the fairway, there is no rough, just sand and hard-pan. The water hazards are marked by checkered flags, which is a nice touch especially if you are not familiar with the course.

Very nice course my wife and I enjoyed it. Front nine went very very smoothly back nine very nice how to wait a few times but no big deal it was very good value for the money
Slow play, no marshall
We followed a 5 groups of golfers playing a scramble format. It should have made the play go faster but the round was just under 5 hours. Very disappointed with the pace of play.

We do have course rangers on each of the Big Cats courses each day, but this is our busiest time of the year and the courses can often be near capacity, during which time, the pace of play will always be more in line with that of a typical tourist foursome rather than the speed a scramble format would allow on an empty course.The summer and winter months are excellent times for scramble events, which can often be played very quickly with less people already on the course. We hope you will visit us again and I will definitely pass your message about slow play on this day to our golf director to address with his staff. Thanks again.

Play Elsewhere
This was our first, and last, visit to Panther’s Run. A great giveaway should have been that we had a 9AM tee time, and there were no other golfers waiting. Check in was uneventful, as was the conversation with the starter.
The course was in shabby shape. Greens had bare spots, and lots of overgrowth on the greens, like playing Plinko with your putts. The fairways were in average shape, there were lots of patches without much grass. Tee boxes were similar to both the fairways and greens.
I did not like the layout, as there seemed to be many more dogleg rights. The course was also not aesthetically good looking. I would stay away from the course!
Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Panther's Run. We apologize we were unable to meet your expectations on this visit. There has been a recent outbreak of Poa Annua on many of the bermuda greens courses in our area and we are treating it very aggressively. This condition will improve rapidly and these invasive grasses will be completely eradicated soon. There are a some weak spots on a couple of the greens that are being fertilized and topdressed heavily to make sure they fill back in as well. We hope you will visit us again and see our continued progress and improvement.

Pleasant
Was a very nice place to play. People where great, we had a late tee time and we were slow. The young man who worked there waited for us to leave. Felt very sorry for him and it was our fault for being that way.
Challenging course. Greens are awful

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Panther's Run. We deeply apologize we fell short of your expectations on this visit. The TifEagle greens on Panther's Run are actually still quite new, having been completely redone from scratch in 2018. Since bermuda grass is a warm weather grass, and goes dormant in the winter, the greens can become quite slick and fast this time of year, so that might have contributed to your review. We hope you get the chance to come play again some day, maybe in a the spring, summer or fall when these greens will be in their peak condition. Thanks again.
