Don't play here
The worst greens i have played on more than half the greens were said covered the golf course should close and fix the greens
Greens are in terrible shape!!
The rest of the course is very nice, but the greens need some SERIOUS work!!
Maybe a little warning before I went out would have been professional courtesy to say the least. I was putting on rolled dirt with sparse greenage!
Hi csag - Because of the heavy rainfall and weather conditions this past fall and winter, we have eight Tif Eagle greens that suffered turf damage. While conditions have improved this spring, we still expected a better transition than where we are today.
While these eight greens are not in optimal playing conditions for April, the greens are still playable. To assist in improving how these greens look and to promote the golf ball rolling better, we have decided to keep these greens top-dressed with green sand. We are thankful the rest of the course including the other 10 greens are in good condition.
With warmer weather ahead, we will continue to see improved conditions and will be back to normal sooner than later. We expect the greens to be fully recovered before the end of the spring season.
Wachesaw East
The greens were TERRIBLE! I REALLY liked the layout, HOWEVER, many of the greens initially appeared dirt. What we discovered after several holes was there appeared to be some "green dressing" mixture (dirt + whatever) that was like a powder covering the greens. Not all the greens were covered with this mixture. I guess what miffed us was that NO ONE associated w/course (starter, bag drop attendant or pro shop check in person) mentioned ANYTHING about the green conditions.

Lost the greens
14 of the greens were in terrible shape....very little grass. Apparently excessive rains last fall destroyed the greens, To bad this course is usually in great condition and staff is very accomodating.

Greens?
The fairways were in pretty good shape, but about a third of the greens were useless. They were packed sand with very little grass (20% at best). We invoked the 2 putt rule because of how bad they are.

Greens Are Gone
THE GREAT: Friendliest & most effective staff I've ever encountered. The young gentleman in the pro shop was extra friendly and informative and the gentlemen unloading your bags and starting the golfers were phenomenally well-aware of all arriving golfers and were getting folks started early. They were courteous and absolutely the most competent I've encountered in more than 45 years of playing golf. I saw then multiple times during the round greeting everyone and making sure the pace of play was right---and it was. Fairways, tees and all areas except greens were very nice.
THE BAD: The course lost its greens over the winter. 13-14 of the greens were more than 80% bare. There was a sand, seed mixture, but they are essentially all 2-putt automatics. I would not recommend this course until they get the greens back. That's too bad, since it is a great layout with the best staff.

Nice place but.....
It's a beautyful course except for the greens. There were in terrible condition. To bad that when I think of Wachesaw Plantation golf course the bad condition of the green always comes to my mind.
14 DEAD GREENS EVERYTHING ELSE MEDIOCRE
Considering the normal rates are $89 - $109 Wachesaw East is not worth the money. The club house personnel were friendly and helpful but they should have disclosed that 14 of the greens were dead from a 5 inch rain storm that occurred in October 2015. The 14 greens are completely dead and dressed with a green colored sand. Try putting on that all day! But they do include range balls in your rate. However, you can't take your cart to the range area so be prepared to lug your bag. There's plenty of real estate to park the cart at the range area without disturbing anything. I honestly believe this is the starter's policy because he tracks the cart numbers and doesn't want to record the numbers until head off to the first tee. Maybe he'll lose track of a cart! The whole experience at the course was disappointing. My advice is to not play there, at least not this year.
Must be early season thing....
Greens weren't even grass! It was like green sand..
Fairways nice.. Why they had groups tee off on 10, don't know. I really struggled in back nine. Waited every shot for a group in front....Probably nice in summer, if they get greens to grow..
Greenns
The majority of the greens are in horrible condition. This is being attributed to the very rainy winter they had. The greens are presently covered with a green powder substance while they await the growth return. In the meantime, reading a putt is all but impossible. No mention of this was made in the pro shop. If you paid full price to play this course you really took a beating.
March Break
Got what I expected! $30 to play, great value, but the greens were horrible. Good for first round of the week.
Greens
The fairways were in good condition, but the greens were in very poor condition. I would play again if the greens get to good condition. I liked everything else about the course, everyone was friendly and very helpful. I would not pay over 30 a round until the greens come out.
Maybe if I was playing well....
This was the second time in 3 years I have played Wachesaw East. Neither time was I playing well and that probably took away my enjoyment. This year played it in Round 4 of Myrtle Beach World Amateur after MB had gotten tropical rains for a couple of weeks. The course was miserably wet and soggy and when you are not playing well...it just is no fun.
Greens were in pretty good shape and putted smooth. Conditioning was not great but not bad. Course is very tree lined and there is lots of OB so in its right, the course is tight.
Sorry, just not one of my favorite MB courses. But, I would play it again probably only if I draw it in the tournament.
sloppy
I couldn't believe how wet the course was. I understand the need for overseeding and all but this was super saturated with water from tee to green and it wasn't from rain. We were very disappointed as the course had a challenging layout and would have been much more enjoyable to play had it been dry. Not very impressed with the help that was cutting grass around the fringe of the green on the 16th hole. He couldn't be bothered to pull off to the side and shut off the mower so we could finish the hole....instead he kept mowing the front of the green while the person we played with had to shoot around him. I've never experienced something like that before. Ridiculous. Will I play here again or recommend it? The answer is no. There are too many other choices of places to play here.
friendly course
It was cold when we teed off. The starter allowed us to start on the back so there was no one in front of us. It looked as though the sandtraps around the greens were replaced with grass but there were sand bunkers in the fairways. Enjoyable to play not very difficult.
Nice Course - good start to our trip
Nice course in very good shape. The greens were a little thin but still putted very true. Very little sand on the front nine. They book front and back at the same time in the morning so got a little slower when we made the turn but still under 41/2 hours. Staff inside and out were very friendly.
Great layout; challenging but fair; if staying in south Myrtle area, you gotta play it
Great course from all aspects: Nice clubhouse and bar; great practice facility; the course layout was great and very eye-appealing; challenging but fair; greens were in good shape and rolled true. I normally like to play different courses and layouts when in Myrtle but hope to have many return trips here.
Much more for your money.
Less expensive than most in the area but more bang for your buck. Great staff and beautiful course.
Gorgeous facility even better course
The inside facility is spotless and high end. Throw in an added benefit of a beautiful large covered bar and 2nd restaurant area with flat screen tv and it is paradise. The range is great with specific daily yardages. The course itself is very scenic and in immaculate condition. You will immediately notice the flawless greens. The course has some challenges, specifically 17 and 18 but if you play the appropriate tees as indicated by handicap you should be fine. A couple of hidden hazards and as of the day I played it the rough is getting thick and high so find the fairway or you may have to take your medecine and punch out. The staff was great and we had a great day. It should also be noted the course drains well as there was so much rain the prior days and morning of the day we played but it still was 90% and no real noticeable soggy areas. One of the great golf facilities around. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it.
Great for all around golfers!
Course played slow because we had a lot of rain recently and maintenance hadn't been able to mow. Greens were faster then expected for all that rain. Well kept course and very cordial staff. Good layout and very playable for all levels of golfers. Will play again!
