TPC Myrtle Beach

About
TPC Myrtle Beach, designed by Tom Fazio with assistance from Lanny Wadkins, opened in 1999 as the Grand Strand's 100th golf course.
Set south of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, the golf course features an abundance of bird life and natural wetlands, which come into play on 11 holes and pine trees frame many of the holes. Tom Watson proclaimed TPC Myrtle Beach an "interesting challenge and a quiet walk in nature."

Worst Experience in 20 years of golfing!
M
My golf group and I planned an entire golf trip with this course being the headliner! We were unable to fully experience the course March 2022 due to a terrible storm, so we were looking forward to the challenge. We booked multiple tee times with the course and received a confirmation number. We arrived to the course at approximately 12:30p and was notified that our tee times were unexpectedly changed from 1:30pm to 8:00am without any prior notice, causing significant inconvenience. Additionally, despite being told we could play at 2:30pm due to their bookings, that time would not work for our group (8 golfers) due to the possibility of not finishing. Out of their list of over 20 affiliated courses, we were redirected to Willbrook. With no other tee times, we decided to go. Once we arrived, we noticed it was Willbrook Plantation! Which was definitely not our preferred choice. Coincidence? I think not!!! Maybe that’s why they didn’t covey the entire name of the course and just referred to it as Willbrook.
What added to our disappointment was the feeling of being treated differently due to the racial makeup of our golf group, which consisted of all Black individuals. Such discriminatory treatment is completely unacceptable and tarnished our overall experience.
In summary, the last-minute tee time change and the redirection to another course, coupled with the perceived discrimination, left us with a negative impression of TCP Myrtle Beach. We hope they can improve their service and ensure fair treatment for all customers in the future.
Terrible Pace of Play
The staff in the Pro Shop talked a big game about pace of play. My buddy and I started at 2pm and weren’t even able to get 18 holes in. Mind you that’s nearly 6 hours of light.
There were several groups behind us that weren’t able to play as many holes as we did.
There is no way I would ever go back here for the price when I didn’t see a ranger on the course for the 6 hours I was there. The obvious strategy is they care about your money and don’t care about your round.
I will never play here again but will recommend you play Pine Lakes Country Club. Played there the following day at the same time and the course was honestly nicer for $30 less. Never waited on a tee box and played a round in 3 hours and 20 minutes.
The TPC shoud be stripped from this course.
I've played a lot of TPC courses and this was the worst one. A golfer typically associates the letters TPC with a fantastic golf course. This is far from that, and rather underwhelming. Play Grande Dunes instead, you can thank me later.
Disappointment.
You are paying for the TPC name.
First off the staff where top notch, great guys. Lots of help.
That being said outside of that, everything was lacking. Tee times for 07/02/2023 in my grouping ranged from $100-180. We all walked away feeling as if we got played… definitely not a TPC quality track. The course has maybe 1 memorable hole on it. My local courses are the same condition if not better than this and half the price.
A lot of great golf tracks down here, this isn’t one of them unfortunately.
Not what I expected
I thought this course was supposed to be ranked in the top 5 at Myrtle Beach. I couldn't see how! For the greens fees we paid, I certainly expected much better. Yes, the greens were punched, but TWO weeks ago. They looked like they had been punched last night. And there was no grass and washed out places on the greens. There was very little grass in the fairways in spite of being told that they overseed. Took me 9 holes to figure out how to hit approach shots off of dirt as I had never done that before. The course layout is challenging but fun. The staff was very nice and accommodating. It was scorching hot and they gave us cool ice towels at the END of the round. I could have used one at the turn, not at the end when I'm heading to the air conditioning anyway.
Decent experience
I enjoyed this round. Nice lay out. Recommend staying on the left side of most fairways as low hanging trees seemed to show up on the right even if in fairway. Small gator walked across fairway to about 15 feet from my ball. Greens punched a couple of weeks ago so a little rough. Staff did warn us. They were nice and said if we got started and didn’t approve they would offer rain check. Probably should have been discounted some. I would play again though.
Nice, but not $130 nice
Played earlier this week while on vacation in Myrtle. I’ll start off by saying that the staff, clubhouse, and practice area are top notch. The course itself was just okay. Not what I expected for a TPC course. Nice layout but nothing special, fairways and geeens were in just okay shape. Cart path only on several holes made for a brutal 5 hour plus round. It’s a decent course but definitely not worth $130. I felt like I paid for the TPC name rather than the course itself. I probably won’t return.
Poor course conditions. Staff are jerks
It was in all honesty maybe the 3rd best of the 6 courses in myrtle we played as far as condition. When you take into account they made us pay for 18 and would only let us play 9, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It is a black eye to the TPC name
Awful Staff, pretty much an average municipal course
Their grounds were OK, really you're just paying for the TPC name. The worst by far of the TPC courses I've played and the worst course we played on our myrtle beach weekend.
Also the staff don't give a crap about the customers, once you pay even if it's a wrong transaction they won't correct it. They pretty much stole $50 from everyone in my group
Living off the TPC name
The layout/design here is very good, but the conditions leave a lot to be desired. The course was soaked, yet it has rained only once in Myrtle Beach over the last 10 days or so (and not since mid last week). Reading some previous reviews, it seems they have an issue with the sprinkler system. I honestly thought the grounds crew left the sprinklers running too long while out on the course today, it was that wet. As a result, no roll on the fairways.
The greens were average in every sense of the word. Some better than others but the general theme was SLOW. They looked faster than they ran. Smooth for the most part, but you really had to hammer putts to get them to the hole. For a TPC course, I'd expect better. Probably running an 8 on the stimp if I had to guess. Fine for a public course, but not for what is supposed to be a top notch resort style course.
All in all, a very average course. The maintenance should be far better than it is, but it's not bad if you can play here for a fair price. Anything more than $70 is too much for this course in its current condition.
Better the 2nd time
First time I played this course I thought it lacked a little something but the 2nd time around I found myself to enjoy the scenery and course layout more
