Oyster Bay Golf Links
About
Oyster Bay Golf Links, in Sunset Beach near Calabash, N.C., opened in 1983, a precursor to the Grand Strand's first true, golf course building boom.
Oyster Bay Golf Links, another classic creation by Developer Larry Young and Architect Dan Maples, is a rare blend of the various philosophies of golf course architecture.
Oyster Bay is one of the most beautiful and diversified courses to be found anywhere. It is located in Sunset Beach, NC just minutes North of its predecessor, Marsh Harbour.
"The real story is that Oyster Bay is still one of the must-plays of Myrtle Beach," a TravelGolf.com reviewer said. "The haunting layout on the shores of Twin Lakes has a collection of holes that are as well-conceived and scenery-soaked as any in the Grand Strand."
The par-70 course is just under 6,700 yards and has two island green par 3s. The course does show some signs of its age, including the clubhouse, the range with its beat-up ball machine, and the greens are old-fashioned Bermuda known for being slow.

Feeding time on the 15th hole! Photo submitted by JackStraw6 on 08/31/2017
Deceptive for the price
Played in mid March so most courses are not in the best condition. But when you pay $135 a round you expect to play a very nice course. This was honestly a big disappointment. Course put way too many golfers so pace of play was over 4:30. Course conditions were below average. Fairly cool layout but very tight and lots of water… which only makes the pace slower. Probably should be priced at $70 a round. Would not go there again for more than that. There were some cool holes but the course conditions really ruined it for me.
Bad weather cancellation
I spoke to the course at 7:00AM yesterday., They infrmed me that they were closed until at least 12:45 and that with our tee time of 9:04 we wouldn't get out until 2L00Pm at the earliest . That didn't work for us as one o of our party had flights to Newark NJ and needed to be at the airport at 5:00PM.
The pro shop guy said that he would email the course closure infor to Golfpass and authorize our refund. Please advise
Top Rated Course No More
Was excited to play Oyster Bay. The week after Christmas, the weather was ideal. The course layout was great. The shape, not even close. The bunkers looked like they hadn’t seen new sand or been raked in years. The greens where hard and rolled out. The fairways were nice. The tee boxes were too. For the money, it simply was not worth the drive.
Great Day at Oyster Bay
Great layout. Love the course. Pin placements were a bit suspect today and pace Was slower than I like but still a great course and the free breakfast sandwich, lunch and 2 drinks was a great deal!
Great round
Went to Sunset Beach for Thanksgiving and decided to play at Oyster Bay. Course was in good shape. Hard to read breaks on greens which made it fun. Overall great course. My only gripe is I wish the tee box signage and signage from one hole to the next was a little Better some holes were very confusing to find.
Great layout and fun but
Fun to play and you’ll see gators. Lots of water and nice area. But, fairway and rough conditions are not great. Cart paths are in disrepair. Price too high compared to other courses nearby.
Enjoyable course
The staff are very pleasant and friendly. The greens were in excellent condition. The fairways and tee boxes were in generally in very good condition; there were a few exceptions, but not many. The sand in the bunkers needed work. Some were in good shape but many had not been raked and looked as if there had been too much water left standing for too long. The layout is interesting and fun to play; gives the golfer a lot of variety of shots to play. There is a good bit of water on the back, but with good shot-making and decision-making the water is avoidable. A good tee shot in the fairway is required on almost every hole.
The staff was very friendly. The course was in great shape
Nice layout
Very challenging looks from the tee. I am a 10 handicap and was challenged throughout but fair.
Played the whites.
Course in great shape. Greens not too fast but not slow.
Had a good round.
Had a slow group in front of us other than that it was great will go again. Thanks for a great course. Will be back
Common scents
We were a 2 some, first off #1, got to the turn, the starter was going to let us go thru, pro said to wait, the double book tee times. The pro let a 4 some and a 2 some tee off before we could play on. The 2 groups, they were together, let us play thru, which was wonderful of them. We had playe the first 9 in under 2 hours. Starter or others couldn’t figure that one out.
Other than that little issue, it was a great course and a great day of golf. Staff was very friendly, course was great. Would definitely recommend Ouster Bay to anyone
