Oyster Bay Golf Links
About
Oyster Bay Golf Links, in Sunset Beach near Calabash, N.C., opened in 1983, a precursor to the Grand Strand's first true, golf course building boom.
Oyster Bay Golf Links, another classic creation by Developer Larry Young and Architect Dan Maples, is a rare blend of the various philosophies of golf course architecture.
Oyster Bay is one of the most beautiful and diversified courses to be found anywhere. It is located in Sunset Beach, NC just minutes North of its predecessor, Marsh Harbour.
"The real story is that Oyster Bay is still one of the must-plays of Myrtle Beach," a TravelGolf.com reviewer said. "The haunting layout on the shores of Twin Lakes has a collection of holes that are as well-conceived and scenery-soaked as any in the Grand Strand."
The par-70 course is just under 6,700 yards and has two island green par 3s. The course does show some signs of its age, including the clubhouse, the range with its beat-up ball machine, and the greens are old-fashioned Bermuda known for being slow.

Feeding time on the 15th hole! Photo submitted by JackStraw6 on 08/31/2017
This course used to be terrific, but they are trying to get by on past glory. The course is not in good shape, tee boxes are poor, sand traps had drainage issues and the ones that still had full sand looked like an army walked through them . Does anyone take anymore ? Greens were recently aerated. The fairways were not in good shape. The deal including lunch is a nice touch . This is a $35-$40 dollar course now and that is a sad thing . This is a Legends property and it looks like they forgot about it . The big positive is the staff there. Top notch.
Great Round
This was the first time I’ve played Oyster Bay, but it won’t be the last. Exceptional golf course, friendly staff, and I was told when I arrived, that I would receive a complementary meal with 2 free drinks after the round. Oyster Bay does it right.
Very enjoyable day
A couple of qualifications here. I do believe we were first off - we played in under four hours and did not get jammed up at the turn (critical success factor!!) The greens had been punched - however I knew this well in advance and factored that in to my assessment of conditions. Feels like they're going to come back in really nice shape as I didn't notice any "dead" areas. Staff was very nice all around - the clubhouse can best be described as "spartan" but I'm there for the golf, not a mall experience. I play a lot in the area and there is plenty of competition for my dollars - but I can definitely say I'll be back. Also I did get to see several gators (bonus for me!!!) Final note - I wouldn't rate Oyster Bay in the same frame as a Caledonia, TPC MB, or True Blue - but the rate is substantially lower and again, conditions are nice (not pristine).
Great Course
One of my all time favorites. Live up north and haven't played here for some 15 years. Was not disappointed.
Save your money
The course is barely being maintained and is definitely overpriced for that reason. Most of the front 9 had numerous issues from tee to green, some improvement on the back Cart paths are some of the worst I’ve been on, and I’ve played at $15 muni’s. It’s unfortunate because it looks like a fun layout and was probably enjoyable 15 years ago. Save your time and money, there are plenty of other courses around to play.
Lack of markers
Course was ok condition. Pricey for value Lack of tee markers and directional signs were unusual for price.
Most Scenic
A fabulous layout with nature's beauty all around including fully grown alligators . I love the course, but the conditions were average. Some tees needed mowing, greens were good, but not great. Cart paths need major work. It would be well worth the price if it was in better shape, but it is not a good value until improvements are made. I still love the course and hope the conditions improve.
Disappointed
I had played this course in the 90’s and it was one of the top courses with the conditions, views and overall layout Now, it’s a glorified municipal course. So disappointing. The back nine was burnt and the pathways were worse then NYC pothole streets. Terrible
Disappointing Experience.
Extremely disappointed in the overall course conditions considering the cost to play. Tee-boxes were poor, sand traps not maintained, greens were rough in patches. Cart paths poorly maintained. Ownership need to spend money as a great layout with some really challenging holes that will test your game.
Deceptive for the price
Played in mid March so most courses are not in the best condition. But when you pay $135 a round you expect to play a very nice course. This was honestly a big disappointment. Course put way too many golfers so pace of play was over 4:30. Course conditions were below average. Fairly cool layout but very tight and lots of water… which only makes the pace slower. Probably should be priced at $70 a round. Would not go there again for more than that. There were some cool holes but the course conditions really ruined it for me.
Bad weather cancellation
I spoke to the course at 7:00AM yesterday., They infrmed me that they were closed until at least 12:45 and that with our tee time of 9:04 we wouldn't get out until 2L00Pm at the earliest . That didn't work for us as one o of our party had flights to Newark NJ and needed to be at the airport at 5:00PM.
The pro shop guy said that he would email the course closure infor to Golfpass and authorize our refund. Please advise
