Pohick Bay Golf Course
About
Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course in Lorton has been one of the area's most popular public courses since it opened in the early 1980s. Playing at Pohick Bay is like playing two golf courses in one, with a front nine that has long, tree-lined fairways and a hillier back nine that features a variety of doglegs and water holes. It is a definitely a shot-maker's course so be prepared to use some creativity and some thoughtful strategizing doesn’t hurt either. The constant up and down of the golf course provides uneven lies and a number of blind shots. The dramatic terrain also makes it a tough course to walk. Trees frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy but also providing a peaceful and secluded feel. Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course is popular amongst locals for being one of the most challenging and yet also one of the most affordable courses in the area.

Slow play, decent course
Course was in decent shape, lots of trees and very hilly for walkers. This particular Sat was very slow; 5.5 hrs to complete the round. We asked the drink cart attendant to inform the warden of the slow play, and he didn't come around until the 14th hole, and said the group in front of us was on pace for 4.5 hr round. Don't care about the time as much as keeping up with the group in front of you, and there were three open holes ahead of us. The one challenging Par 5 has a temp green, which made it a drivable Par 4, but the maintenance they are doing will help improve the Par 5. Overall, good day but slow at times.
Golf outing
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall the outing was goo. Being early spring the cours fairway grass still needed to fill in. The greens are in good shape rolling true. The 13th green is still undergoing a face lift. I have played this course year around from tolime to timr. I would recommend it to anyonel.
Very nice - Even in Winter!
First time at Pohick Bay, and really enjoyed it. Considering it was early March, fairways and rough were in nice shape. Tee and approach shots are often up or down; lots of terrain change. Once you get to the green, good size and fun to play; fair amount of slope, but makeable looks most of the time. All around the course, a clear sense of attention to detail (e.g., the water/trash stations at the tee boxes were never in disrepair and always clean). Nice touch. Those we met in the pro shop were pleasant (the lady who checked us in literally went in the back to ensure our discounted price wasn't too high!), plus we paired with one of the volunteer "marshals"; nice guy. Will definitely go back.
Airrated fairways
Fairways were airrated but the course was in pretty good shape Sone tee boxes were thn
Great course: Great value
The fairways are forgiving but the greens are challenging. Their are a couple blind shots of the tee but nothing you can't negotiate. The P of P was really good, finished 18 just under 4hrs. Great conditions and friendly staff... might become my new home.
Pohick is not for sissies
Pohick Bay Golf Course is a challenging course overall. Some of the fairways are pinched narrow, so use your straightest clubs;better to be short and straight than long and wrong. The course runs through dense forest where errant shots can get gobbled up. It's a test of your shot making skills. I enjoy playing Pohick at least once a month.
Friendly staff
Front nine played a little slow as two walkers took their time. Instead of playing the back nine, the staff let us play the front nine again so we wouldn't have to wait for the slow walkers. Second nine took just under half the time to play.
Tough Course
Tough little course, lots of out of bounds, small greens and lots of dog leg fairways. Fun challenge, need to play a couple times to know what to expect.
Not a Holiday!
Slow play on the Holidays! Well not officially a holiday but it sure seemed like it. SLOWWW play all day long. Hit it, wait .... hit it, wait. There was no way to get into any rhythm at all. We had 2 3-somes in front of us (4-some) and a 3-some behind us asks if they can play through. Are you serious? Apparently golf etiquette goes out the window on this course. Oh yeah, we were hit into on 2 holes as well.
Course is in great condition though for the time of the year.
Needs some attention
Layout is challenging and playing from the blue tees made it even more. Course needs investment to improve conditions. However, sand traps were not even raked although there were plenty of staff doing nothing.
Decent
Interesting layout. Greens were a bit fuzzy on the front and a little better on the back. Rough was too high.
Dissapointed
Course is in surprisingly poor shape.
Best Economical Round in NOVA
for those days where I just don't want to spend the extra cash, but want to get out on the course, this is the place. Driving Range and putting green aren't the best, but the course itself usually moves pretty quickly and is in great shape for the money even on the weekends. If you're booking solo, check times the night before for the best deals.
Course was in good shape
Course was in good shape. Greens were in great shape, but slow. Good layout and challenging..
Great Layout at a SLOW Pace
This was my first time playing this course, and I was very impressed with the conditions of the greens, by far the best of which I have played all year. the sand was fresh and fluffy and fairways were in great shape. The only rough part was the rough itself. It was very high and uncut when I played. It made a long drive that ran through the fairway almost impossible to find. The other major complaint was the pace of play. Foursomes of women walking and men pushing carts in front of single players and doubles in carts. got frustrating. At one point it was backed up 6 holes and they didn't have a marshall to correct it. Overall it was a great course and the layout was challenging. Just about every shot was a blind one, making you hit your spots. I will go back for sure.
