About
Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course in Lorton has been one of the area's most popular public courses since it opened in the early 1980s. Playing at Pohick Bay is like playing two golf courses in one, with a front nine that has long, tree-lined fairways and a hillier back nine that features a variety of doglegs and water holes. It is a definitely a shot-maker's course so be prepared to use some creativity and some thoughtful strategizing doesn’t hurt either. The constant up and down of the golf course provides uneven lies and a number of blind shots. The dramatic terrain also makes it a tough course to walk. Trees frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy but also providing a peaceful and secluded feel. Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course is popular amongst locals for being one of the most challenging and yet also one of the most affordable courses in the area.

fun and challenging course. super fast greens probably due to no rain in over a month. greens are normally fast, but not this fast. greens have lots of breaks/ turns. very fun to putt. the rough is always penal at this course, partly because it is a hilly, undulating course.

… too expencive for course conditions (my opinion 😀). Only good greens … but too much unrepaired ball marks - may be a general problem by users , they do not enough realize that they are harming themselves 👎🏽 !!!
+ : layout is good and very varied, greens (remember: unrepaired ball marks)

Municipal Golf
Pohick is a solid course for money. The layout runs through the edge of Pohick regional park and woodlands and nature are abundant. Out of bounds markers delineating someone’s backyard are nonexistent at this course though accuracy off the tee is still paramount. This course has rolling terrain and blind tee shots so some local knowledge is appreciated. There are a couple “bomb it and hit a recovery shot to the green holes” but this course will reward accuracy over power. The greens were quick but receptive and downhill putts can get away from you. Pace of play may be an issue with a 5 hour round being the norm during peak weekend hours. Bring your cooler - no on corse beverage cart should be expected.

Grossly overpriced
Poor conditions, not worth the $75 they are asking for. This is a $40 course at most.

Fun round
We live very close to the course but had not played it together and we decided to play on our anniversary. We had a wonderful time and will be back when our budget allows.

IMPROVING
Aerated recently and trying to rebound from a brutal summer. Lots of dead patches in fairways but not so bad that you can't find a good lie. Some fairways are better than others. Greens are a bit sandy and bumpy but should be really nice in a couple of weeks. This course gets alot of play so pace can be a problem. Fortunately our foursome found a nice afternoon pocket and finished in a little over 4 hours. Also they don't gouge you on rates like some of the other local courses (hello Laurel Hills, Potomac Shores)

Overall improved and improving
If you've never been to Pohick the first things to know are about the big elevation changes and the 10-11 doglegs on the track. It means there are a lot of blind shots which some first time players lament.
Having played there plenty in recent years I'm impressed by the overall improving conditions (although the fairways are in rough shape right now). Tee boxes are better, Greens are much better. Great value overall for those close to DC not wanting to pay over $100 for a round.

70th Birthday Round
I and a friend played our 70th birthday round. The pace of play was very slow. The course was also not in good shape on some holes. No grass on the fairway and too much sand on the greens.
