About
Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course in Lorton has been one of the area's most popular public courses since it opened in the early 1980s. Playing at Pohick Bay is like playing two golf courses in one, with a front nine that has long, tree-lined fairways and a hillier back nine that features a variety of doglegs and water holes. It is a definitely a shot-maker's course so be prepared to use some creativity and some thoughtful strategizing doesn’t hurt either. The constant up and down of the golf course provides uneven lies and a number of blind shots. The dramatic terrain also makes it a tough course to walk. Trees frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy but also providing a peaceful and secluded feel. Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course is popular amongst locals for being one of the most challenging and yet also one of the most affordable courses in the area.

Fun round
We live very close to the course but had not played it together and we decided to play on our anniversary. We had a wonderful time and will be back when our budget allows.
IMPROVING
Aerated recently and trying to rebound from a brutal summer. Lots of dead patches in fairways but not so bad that you can't find a good lie. Some fairways are better than others. Greens are a bit sandy and bumpy but should be really nice in a couple of weeks. This course gets alot of play so pace can be a problem. Fortunately our foursome found a nice afternoon pocket and finished in a little over 4 hours. Also they don't gouge you on rates like some of the other local courses (hello Laurel Hills, Potomac Shores)

Overall improved and improving
If you've never been to Pohick the first things to know are about the big elevation changes and the 10-11 doglegs on the track. It means there are a lot of blind shots which some first time players lament.
Having played there plenty in recent years I'm impressed by the overall improving conditions (although the fairways are in rough shape right now). Tee boxes are better, Greens are much better. Great value overall for those close to DC not wanting to pay over $100 for a round.

70th Birthday Round
I and a friend played our 70th birthday round. The pace of play was very slow. The course was also not in good shape on some holes. No grass on the fairway and too much sand on the greens.

Nice Course

Golf course was in surprisingly in good condition cart paths are a little bit chewed up which makes for a bumpy ride but they’ve done a very good job fixing a couple of their problematic greens from years past that would be Holzer12 and 13 are very challenging, but good grades with a little more diligence This could actually be a five star rated course much improved over the years.
