The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

TOO WET

Someone left the sprinklers on too long.

Green complex on all holes were soaked.

Most of the fairways were too.

We had to get relief or ay out of puddles.

It had not rained so we couldn't understand why.

I would play here again because the layout is challenging.

Courses need to over-seed tees and greens in October. Since we had less than a half inch of rain in all October, it was necessary to use more than normal irrigation to be sure the seed germinated. We regret your tee time fell just after irrigation had taken place but it will be at normal levels soon.

Great course

This is a great layout except for hole 16. The greens were in excellent condition and ran true. Staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a foursome holding us up but the marshal got them moving and we were good to go. Would highly recommend this course if you are in the HHI area.

Recommend! Fun to play,

The staff and course were very nice. I will play again.

We played on a day where they were beginning the fall transition to rye grass. The seed demanded lots of water, so the course was overly soaked on our date, but it would not be a normal occurrence, I imagine.

Greens were very slow.

Great course

First time playing this course. It was in great shape and the greens were in excellent. The price was great also compared to the courses on the island. There was a foursome in front of us slowing everyone down, but the marshal came by and got them to speed up. The only complaint is the 16 hole is a little squirrelly. We were not sure how to play it at first. Would definitely recommend playing this course if you are on HHI.
