The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Old South, an old favorite

I've played Old South almost every time we visit Hilton Head. The value is awesome. Great layout with unique hole designs. You have to think your way around this track. It was cart path only due to recent rain and the greens were still a little sandy (still very playable). I'll definitely be back.

Beautiful, but lacking

Beautiful course and great layout but was really lacking on the customer care side. I rented clubs and they gave me a three wood with a broken shaft. We golfed on a day with a heat index of 115 degrees but had no free water on the course. The only way to get water was purchase from the cart gal or on the turn.

Worth a try

I played this course during then winter. It is so much better now. The fairways and greens are in very good condition. This course is worth a try. Bring a bunch of balls for # 7 and 8.

I could tell that the staff was aware of my golf now price therefore made sure that I didn’t go off a little early even though there was a 40 minute gap with no one teeing off. Most places are gracious using this app with no desire to punish you. I love the course but don’t care for the leadership.

Gorgeous course views, greens are rougher than most

Overall the course was fantastic with some of the most beautiful views of the marsh. The greens were not bad but have seen much better in hilton head. Would recommend and I bet it is in much better shape come Fall

Outstanding Course

Was looking for a Hilton Head course that combined value/condition/scenery with a quality challenge, and Old Sourh checked all of those boxes.

It’s just off the island in Bluffton, but it’s an easy drive, the staff was friendly, and the course was in great condition.
