The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Only problem was we had a really slow twosome in front of our foursome and it turned into an almost 5-hour round.

Outstanding Course

Was looking for a Hilton Head course that combined value/condition/scenery with a quality challenge, and Old Sourh checked all of those boxes.

It’s just off the island in Bluffton, but it’s an easy drive, the staff was friendly, and the course was in great condition.

Fun course with some challenges

Front nine fairly straight forward back nine had more than its share of doglegs and placement play.

I’d recommend and we got a good price and early tee time.

It was hot and staff was great. There was one who was a bit of a snit in pro shop. But we all agreed it was a great day on the course.

Great course

Very fun course, staff was very helpful when needed and very friendly. I would absolutely play here again. Greens were aerated a few weeks ago, so still a little bumpy….at least that’s what I’m blaming my putting on (they were pretty much healed up). The course overall was in great condition though. Fairways were fantastic, roughs were thick but you can still hit out of it pretty easily.

Great views, got to see some gators, and shot one of my best rounds…not saying much, but I’m happy with it!
