Old South Golf Links
About
The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.
Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."
The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.
Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Fairly negative experience with the ranger at the golf course. Gentlemen by the name of Mick. This course has the mentality that the acceptable pace is not a standard time, but playing as fast as the group in front of you always. For reference todays conditions were cart path only, fairly wide open fairways with average golfers at best, and a Senior golfer who has been struggling with back pain but was eager to play today. So for example, if the group in front of us were 4 professional golfers in golf carts, we would be expected to keep that pace.
After 12 holes our cart GPS estimated we were 8 minutes behind the recommended pace (after 2 interactions with the ranger Mick, estimated 3-4 minutes of listening to his gibberish, and 5-7 minutes at the clubhouse - which could have been expedited if they accepted our drink orders over the phone, which we attempted). Approximately 40 seconds per hole behind pace. With cart path only, which we respected (as tempted as I was to ignore after being told to basically be better).
We were told to skip a hole, and we were told we could actually circle back and play this hole later - which makes absolutely no sense and would have definitely created an actual log jam.
We finished our round in 3hr 57min. We are no pros, but that was one of the fastest rounds of golf I have ever played.
I will say, the gentlemen working the bag drop demonstrated great customer service.
. We had a group of 8 golfers play, buy food and drinks, tipped the service staff. We will never play this course again.

Fun Course with Friendly Staff
We thoroughly enjoyed our round at Old South. It was a beautiful course, had some interesting/challenging holes, and a very friendly and accomodating staff. We would definitely play here again!
Solid course, more shade needed
First time playing this course and would come back to play. Course was in decent shape for mid-August. Fairways were okay, but no roll outs on drives. Rough was groomed and decent to play, but the greens were very slow in our groups' opinion. Bag drop with help was really nice touch, appreciated bags being loaded on the carts and cleaned after round. Love the driving being on way to the first hole and the balls being out there versus grabbing at club house. Early tee time for our group but shade was hard to come by on this course. The double island landing zones on two of the par fours were not our favorites. Pace of play was terrible on the front 9 as we kept waiting on a two-some in front of us but we passed them at the turn. The staff was super cordial and were willing to carry on a conversation which made our group feel valued. Will play again.
Great value for $
Everything was great except I wish I knew the greens were recently aerated.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us, u000005157181. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Old South Golf Links, and we hope to see you again in the future.
Hello and thank you for your 5-star rating! We're delighted you enjoyed your round. Please book another round with us soon, and thanks for choosing Old South Golf Links!
Fun Track
Played here with my son for the first time and we enjoyed the friendly accommodating staff and fun course layout. We played at a great pace and completed our round with a 4 hours. There were some fun challenging dogleg par 4’s, but the greens were a bit slow and they were about the be aerated. A few scorched tee boxes and some bare spots on the greens, but overall we enjoyed the round. We would play here again on our next visit to SC.
Great course, enjoyable round
Course was in great shape. Staff were great as always. Great value for your money. Looking forward to my next round here!
Great Course will definitely play again
Absolutely beautiful course. A couple very cool par 4s, fairways were perfect bunkers were white beach sand, no standing water in them or hard pact. Great course for 70$ for 18.
Not bad
We were the first group out so we never waited. Couse was 90 degree which I hate but understandable. Many greens had tough sections. Much of the course was wet that made you feel like you were standing in water. Would only play this course if on sale,
Okay, not great
A fair number of the greens are under repair so be prepared to play around that obstacle. Other than that the course is okay but not worth the green fees currently being charged.
Good budgetnoption
It had some bad spots on the greens but I enjoyed they layout. Price was better then the higher rates courses in the area. Would play again. Bag drop guy said play less break and hit it hard. Was good advice
Fine course. Little steps could go a long way.
I thought the course was fine. Most fairways were in good condition. A couple of greens were rough. A couple of the par three tee boxes were very sandy.
I just thought the staff could work on some small things that could go a long way. My cart I was given was a little dirty - old napkins in the cup holders. Could load the cart with a few tees in the slots. Put some tees on the range. Stick a scorecard on the cart. Have water and ice available in the clubhouse or on the course. I thought range balls well included in my round but they were not - so, on the range, the guy could only take cash - just weird - include a small bucket for everyone and move on or at least ask when paying - the guy told me all about the range but didn't ask if I wanted balls so I assumed everything was included.
So, all in all, an overall "fine." Nothing terribly bad and nothing very good or great.
