Greens in rough shape. If greens are corrected this is a 4+ star course.

This is a historically beautiful course that is unfortunately going through some challenges with its greens.

HIGHS:

- Incredible scenery of the marshland between Hilton Head Island and Bluffton

- Unique holes that will fool you with their layout

- Staff is always top notch

LOWS:

- Unfortunately I can't give the greens very high marks at this time (June 2023) as almost all of them have significant damage

- Tee boxes aren't much better, but not a big deal since they are tee boxes.

Despite the greens, this is still a one of a kind track to play. Don't miss out!!

The course was in good shape but the greens were not.

Booked for myself and two family members online. Wasn't informed online or at the course of the deplorable conditions of the greens. Disappointed.

Was disappointed in the recovery of the greens from aeration 3 weeks ago. Price should have been discounted for the conditions. The rest of the course in good shape. Interesting layout with a few layup holes.

Yearly trip to HH island usually play Old South during the trip WOW what a difference a yr makes. The greens are as bad as I have seen them in yrs. Almost all have some sort of burnout or complete bald patches after an attempt at punch the greens they have not come back yet. Sad to see cause the course is a great low country golf course design that has a bunch of great holes but the bad greens kind of put a damper on the day. The staff and everyone in the clubhouse were very nice and friendly

We weren’t told the greens had been too dressed and not worth the price because of this. Normally a good course to play but not right now.

Love the visuals presented by the course. Some rough spots on several greens but overall in great shape. As a shorter hitting 64 year old I found the numerous shots over marshes to be very challenging but my two longer hitting sons handled the course pretty well. Third time we have played the course and look forward to returning next year year during our annual vacation to the Hilton Head area.

Great course to play when you visit Hilton Head South Carolina. Very friendly staff and well maintained.

Fairways were very good most tee boxes were ok but majority of greens were terrible.

Every time I’m in Bluffton which is 3-4 times a year I play old south

My son took me there for Father’s Day we payed $190 for the two of us and I have to say I’ve never seen the greens in as bad a shape the rest of the course was great but greens where bad

No reduction in green fees but just let down by the poor greens

Our group of 4 was behind a group of two and the ranger kept stopping us to get us to “play to the group in front” even though we were on pace or ahead of pace for the majority of the round. This was totally unnecessary and made the round much less enjoyable.

As always the staff is a highlight of this venue as I've never met someone working there that had a modicum of a frown on their face or wasn't quick to help you in any way they could. The starter, beverage cart operator, pro shop attendee, and kitchen staff were all outstanding.

As we were waiting for our chance to go off of the 1st tee, we overheard the dreaded news of the greens recently aerated. I understand courses need to do this, but unfortunately my opinion on the course conditions echo many of the other recent reviews and what I expected out of this course from previous visits.

I live about 50 minutes away and all winter the prices were so high I couldn't justify the drive and cost, finally after watching all winter I caught it on a reasonable price and decided to make the trek only to deal with greens that are barren with sand and concrete like patches (multiple staff members told me it hasn't been hot enough for the bermuda to come through yet), punched (understandable golf course maintenance), and tee boxes that were mostly sand. It's unfortunate that I had to wait all winter looking forward to playing this course and had to deal with those conditions but i'll give it another shot hopefully before the fees double again to see if it gets back to where I know it could be.

Great staff. Course was in so so condition. Greens were not in a great shape. Probably a tad expensive for the course.

Just about everything about this course was fantastic! The course was beautiful and was in great shape. Greens were a little rough due to aeration, but no other complaints. Excellent price too! This was my first time playing this course, and I will most definitely be back!

Old South is a beautiful course with abundant nature to enjoy. Only 2 or 3 holes border homes, all others are true Lowcountry with trees and marshes galore. Fairways were in great shape when we played, only downer were the greens that were being aerated. Perhaps a heads up at the time of booking would have been nice.

I was very disappointed, not only the greens and tee box but overall the course was not up to my history playing there. I played a little over a year ago and it was great, so I don’t know if management has changed but they need to get back to the way it has been in the past many years or it won’t be around long.
