The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

This is truly one of my favorite courses in Hilton head. The course conditions were excellent, except the greens were a little slow. You can’t beat the value for this course and the scenery.

Great Experience

My son and I took a lesson with Ernie. I liked that he focused on only a few issues with each of us. We played back nine after our lesson. Course was in good shape given the weather. It was incredibly hot and beverage cart came by twice during our 9 holes. Inexpensive waters. Ranger came by and gave us some cold waters because of the heat. Never have had that happen at a course. We’ll be doing a repeat of this day next year when we’re back at HHI.

Good value. Some greens in very rough shape.

Got a “hot deal” for about $60 for 18 holes, including own cart. Played as a single; joined another single and a couple. Very nice spur of the moment outing. Done in about 4.5 hours. No trouble w pace of play. Rented decent clubs for $55.

Pleasant staff.

Would definitely consider golfing there again.

Best value in HHI. We picked one of the hottest days of the year but staff was friendly and course was in good shape. They were growing some tee boxes so seemed like course played shorter than card.

Fun, challenging course

We always enjoy playing here during our annual visit to HHI as there are some great holes, beautiful views, and just a fun layout. When we played the greens were in poor condition due to recent aeration? That was the only disappointment and the HOT weather!

Bang for buck

Starting with negatives - a few of the greens are rough and need repairs.

Old south is a challenging course without being impossible. They have a nice driving range and practice area. Nice restaurant, clubhouse etc. You can set your watch by the starter. The course is well kept, groomed and the bunkers have sand in them. More than I can say for several places. The staff I encountered were all polite, professional and helpful. Yes- we’ll be back.
