The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Actually played twice (thurs/fri). Greens were in great condition but I thought slower on day 1, faster day 2. Don’t fly a shot into the bunkers, watched playing partners get deep buries in the soft sand. Overall, this course is my favorite off island.

The course was in great shape

First experience the bag drop guy was friendly and that continued on to staff in pro shop but it didn’t end there the starter was also very friendly. You can have the best course but if your staff is not friendly what’s it matter how good your course is. Hats off to everyone at Old South for making it another enjoyable experience.

Loved the golf, loved the wildlife

Ok, first the golf. Great staff, very helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable. Check-in was easy, clubs and cart were ready for the short ride to the practice area. Ok, you pay $90/$100/$120 or so for a round of golf and then have to pay an extra $8 for maybe 15-20 practice balls? Kind of cheesy. The course was in very good condition and greens ran true (although a bit slower than I’m used to in the mid-Atlantic). However, very nice to see Old South investing time and money to repair/rebuild a lot of tee boxes. Overall well designed layout with just a couple funky holes (specifically #7). As for wildlife, how many courses have you played with alligators, armadillos, egrets and peacocks? And if that’s not enough, how about an eagle sitting in the middle of the fairway as we played #18. Don’t worry, nobody hit it and as we moved closer it elegantly took off and soared into the distance.

Doesn’t get much better than that.

We appreciate your comments and the 4 stars. We offer a basket of 35-40 range balls for $8 or 2 for $14. These are not included in the green fee as many do not wish to use them before play. This helps keep our rate reasonable. We do have an abundance of wildlife but no peacocks...you saw wild turkeys, egrets or blue herons.

Had a great time at Old South. The staff was extremely friendly, and the starter, Al, was awesome! We endured the perfect weather and also the challenging hole layouts on the back nine too! We'll be back!
