Dos Osos Golf Club
About
Dos Osos Golf Club(formerly known as Eagle Crest Golf Club) is routed through the scenic San Pasqual Valley. Its secluded location and challenging layout have made Dos Osos one of San Diego's best-kept secrets. The beautiful layout incorporates cascading waterfalls and eight lakes along with colorful wildflowers and rolling green hills. The diverse golf course is a shot maker's layout that is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. It measures to a manageable 6,417 yards, but it still offers plenty of challenges. In addition to the water hazards, pristine white sand bunkers add a stark contrast to the lush greens. The golf course is narrow, especially on the front nine, which is tighter and has more tree-lined fairways. The bank nine opens up much more. Dos Osos Golf Club rewards accuracy and thoughtful strategy but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Playable but Hot
Summer at Eagle Crest is challenging. The heat and lack of rain make the course a bit hard. That said, the greens were in great condition, sand has been upgraded in many of the bunkers, and the fairways are in decent shape. The course design is moderately difficult but not overwhelming with only a few forced carries. Overall it was enjoyable to play our round.
Good Course in Escondido
Great course! very hot day but loved the course and will play here again.
At 20 bucks it still sucks
Slow pace of play
No grass in fairways
No sand in bunkers
No marshal to keep pace of play
Nine holes took 3 hours
Only one water station on front nine with water in it
97 degrees and people are using range balls to play
Bad Bad Bad!!!
The still have a ways to go
I have played this course many times going back to when it first opened and I remember when it was in excellent shape. I know that they have had issues in the past with water and it is in better shape than it was a couple of years ago. However the fairways are still marginal and the most of the bunkers were more suitable for mud wrestling than golf. With one exception even the ones that did not have standing water were hard packed dirt.
Eagle crest
There is no way to complain about paying $12 for regulation 18 holes. The greens are exceptional. Fairways very dry and 50% of time you are. Hitting off dirt or dead grass. Fair course but if you can’t h it straight plan in a lot of balls.
First round; great experience
Eagle Crest GC was a fun, challenging course that provided my son and I the opportunity to use every club in our bags. We played the white tees as I do the first time I play any course (53 yo, 15 handicap) so course unfamiliarity doesn’t ruin my experience. This course provided challenges despite the short length of most holes due to the hole layouts. Luckily we played with a gentleman who was familiar with the course so we knew somewhat about each hole; I had my chances for birdie while also racking up bogey+ opportunities due to errant shots. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous, and we felt welcome and comfortable during our interactions.
The course is in a gated community that we luckily had a local open the gate for us as she exited the community; this was not indicated when I reserved this through a golf app.
The course greens were very receptive and soft, but the fairways were lacking grass and had dirt areas. Several tee boxes also lacked grass, and others needed to be mowed. This course was quite different than the courses I regularly play in Utah which may be due to the location and climate.
I thoroughly enjoyed the early (6 am) round despite my errant shots. There are some very challenging holes that I would really enjoy playing again now that I have played them. I will return in future vacation trips to the area to see if I can match the challenge.
I recommend this course to intermediate and above golfers.
It’s a dog track
I am saddened by the conditions at Eagle Crest. Used to be one of my favorite courses in San Diego county. It’s in terrible shape now. They did put sand in the bunker on 18. They got that going for them...
Enjoyable round for
Really enjoy the layout. Condition was pretty good. Greens were very slow, and could have been cut a bit shorter, but, because of the recent heatwave, it's understandable, and they were consistent. Only drawback is the bunkers. I think they need to re-align their sprinklers, because the sand is wet & packed.....some on the verge of being unplayable.
Overall.....had a good time, and will definitely play here again.
If only we had more rain
Eaglecrest is one of the most naturally Lush courses I have played but Mother Nature has not been kind by providing us more rain. the course is covered with mature trees that offer plentiful shade and beautiful settings.
As previously described the greens were perfect tee boxes were fine but in between the lack of water is evident. I play unlimited Mulligan's when alone for fitness and if you play Super winter rules allowing you to move the ball up to 10 ft you should have a great time.
I have played many courses throughout Southern California and find that if you're too picky you're never going to be happy. The course should invest in more white sand to fill the remainder of the bunkers but other than that everybody could enjoy this place.
A little help from Mother Nature would make this place shine....and fill in or clear out the giant Reed Bunker on the back nine where three 250 drives couldn't stay in the the fairway...Thanks I will be back.
Cool course for a hot day.
We enjoyed the day. Pace of play was good as the course was quiet on a weekday.
Don't bother
Saw a hot deal, and thought id give her a try. Tee boxes and greens were great, but the fairways were awful. Very narrow, and beat up. Even with a beautiful drive, you never know whats gonna happen on these fairways. Might give it a try if the reviews get better.
Better then expected
After reading some earlier reviews I wasn't sure what to expect when I got to the course. The greens were in terrific shape. The ball rolled true. Some of the bunkers could use some work but the few that I were in were very sandy and soft. There were soft spots where the grass in the fairway was thin but in most places the fairways were in decent shape. If your ball went in the rough it was definitely a challenge. They were hard packed and very little grass. Overall it was a good experience and I would play this course again.
Dale,
Thank you for your 4 star review and helpful feedback. We have been working hard to continue to improve conditions and feedback from golfers like you has been very encouraging. Hope to see you again soon!
Worth playing, needs some work
Challenging course layout. Tough day off the tees means a pretty rough round here. Fairway conditions were both good and bad, about 50/50. Bunker conditions are not good...hard dirt, no sand. Greens are all fine, maybe a little inconsistent speed-wise. No cart service. Food and drink options in the clubhouse could use a make-over.
Couse is still fun to play
The lack of water has taken a toll on this course but is remains a good place to play. the green are in reasonable shape and the landing areas on the fairway were okay but the lack of water has truly reduced the aesthetics of the course..
All that said, We do plan on playing it again.
Much improved...
Eagle Crest has been putting a lot of effort into improving the course over the past year, and the efforts show. There are still some minor areas of dead fairway grass and tee boxes that are a bit roughed up, but greens were immaculate, staff was attentive and working hard to keep up pace of play, and the overall experience was very good. My son and I (round was a Father's day gift!) enjoyed our round immensely, and at a bargain price. Course management, IMHO, merits support from players to keep the improvements going -- and at $36 a round on Father's Day Sunday, these bargain prices won't last long. Recommended.
Thank you for the great feedback and kind words. Great to hear that your Father's Day with your son was a good one at the club. All the best!
On the right track
Course is on the upswing tee boxes and greens were great and fairways were moving in the right direction. Recom. letting some of the waste areas just revert back to natural landscaping.
Thank you schmitzdavid for the 4 star review! We appreciate your support and strive to continue improving our guests experiences. We hope to see you again soon. Happy Golfing!
Nothing has really changed
Decided to come back after not playing here for about 2 years due to the very poor course conditions at that time. Recent reviews said things were much better. They are NOT. Greens are fine but the fairways are spotty at best. Bunkers are dry dirt bowls. No cart girl on a Saturday. Not all the water jugs had water. Pace of play was very slow due to "less skilled" players not playing at a normal pace and no Marshall to do anything. Will not be back until it becomes a more of a course with minimum standards being met.
Great deal and great greens
Best deal in North county San Diego, I almost didn't want to review it so I can keep playing it for myself. Greens are in great shape and the layout is fun for all skill levels.
Thank you Jordan for the 5 star review! We appreciate your support and strive to continue improving our guests experiences. We hope to see you again soon. Happy Golfing!
