Located less than an hour east of San Francisco, the Course at Wente Vineyards sprawls across the lush, rolling hills of Livermore Valley. Greg Norman carefully crafted the golf course, creating one of northern California's most challenging layouts. The course incorporates three different landscapes: woodlands, grassy meadows, and mature vineyards. All throughout the golf course though, golfers will be faced with dramatic elevation changes that cause tricky uneven lies but that also means there are panoramic views to be enjoyed on almost every hole. The fairways and landing areas are narrow and require good club management. The prevailing winds add another challenging element to the course. The Course at Wente Vineyards' back nine holes are more demanding with the par 3s being especially memorable. It is a tough but fair round that will reward proper club selection and strategy.

You have to add this course to your bucket list !!!!!!!!

A truly five star course. Even playing from the whites presents a very good challenge. The changes in elevation from one hole to another is quite unique in itself. Bring plenty of balls, you will need them unless you have very good ball control. This course will challenge every aspect of your game. Got to play this course again.

Good Golfing Experience

Wente is a very nice well maintained and challenging course. No doubt it's one of the best courses in the area with well maintained fairways, bunkers and rock hard fast greens. Tee boxes are a bit spongy but that's about it.
They try to give you a private club experience but hey if you booked on golfnow and especially on of the hot deals they do it with a snobbish attitude. "Oh you got on golfnow" as if $75 for a 3pm tee time is chump change. I don't get it why they have to ruin a perfectly good experience with a snide comment. Happened twice now..

Very nice Golf Course

If your looking for a golf course that is challenging and that has great views The Course at Wente Vinyards should definitely be your choice. A course were you can go play the white tees at 5637 yds or challenge yourself and play the black at 7181 yds, Its a test for the long or short hitter. The course is challenging but fair, fairways are wide on most of the holes and if you happen to hit one into the ruff you have no problem finding your ball.
The views here are Great, drastic elevation changes on the first hole and at the turn which puts you on top of the foot hills looking down at the course and vineyards all around.
The only thing I disliked about the course was playing the blue tees, there were 4 par 4's that were 340yds or shorter, shortest being the 10th at 281yds. This was my first time playing this course and will probably play the gold tees next time to avoid the short par 4's and to add an additional 600yds to the course. Overall i loved the course the only thing i suggest if you plan on playing it check the weather first, the wind can blow 30mph and it can be over 100 degrees in the summer. Played at 2:50pm for $50 through golfnow and was lucky to play on an 80 degree day with about 15-20 mph winds.

Normally in better shape

I heard they fired the Superintendent recently and you can tell....

Do us a favor and give him his job back. Tees and greens normally in pristine shape and now they look like a muni :((

A pilgrimage one must make

Without question, one of the top public courses in the bay area. Prices can be a little steep, but considering the conditions of the course, well worth it. I played in the afternoon, so the wind can make the course harder than it already is. Not for the beginner. Very long with breathtaking views of the valley. In short, a must on ones list.

Overall I like this course, probably one of the best maintained golf course in the Bay Area with a stunning view over the winery.

As I walk towards the pro shop, a staff brought a cart to me and helped me check in in no time. The condition of the course itself was great. They don't seem to over book players so you can finish your round in less than four hours. I liked the elevated tee boxes where you can see stunning view of the area. There is fresh water running through the course in back nine in this dry valley, making the fairway even greener. That was extra. This course is particularly recommendable for players with low handicap given its relatively longer fairway (only a couple of par 4 hole with less than 400 yards. mostly more than 400 yards when you play gold tees)

Great course... if you have a gift card

Wente is a wonderful course, but it's not spectacular for the price.
And some of the staff are wonderful, but some of the staff are... well, what you might expect from Wente? We went into the clubhouse for lunch afterwards, and waited for 20 minutes with our menus closed, no one even came to offer us water. And there was no shortage of wait-staff, wandering slowly by in their sunglasses, completely ignoring everyone.
Needless to say, we left and found a more friendly Livermore establishment for lunch.

Great vistas & a great layout!

The Course at Wente Vineyards has been on my list of places to play for quite sometime since watching the Nationwide Tour play their event here. I finally decided to play and was not disappointed. The views from almost every tee box are great. So many elevated shots to fairways make the views great and the shots challenging. Wind is a factor. The course conditions were a little wet and some of the greens were a little gnarly but the layout is perfect. There are tee boxes for every level of player but if you don't like some forced carries this might not be your place. Blind tee shots on a few holes further add to the challenge. The bunkers were in great condition. The place is just overall beautiful. It was a real treat.

Great course

I have played many courses in the area that charge more and offer less. From tee to green, one won't find better conditions. The course is wonderfully maintained. The course is challenging, but fair; with quite a few risk reward decisions to make.
The staff was wonderful and the marshal gave us a brief history of the course, along with a couple of Greg Norman tales. There was food service on the course and at the half way house. Finished the day with a wine tasting. I wish that I could play here everyday.

Windy at wente

The day was unusually windy they said... Up to 30mph. Regardless, for $90 on the weekday, it's not really worth it. It's only slightly better than roddy ranch. And overall, the staff was very nice, with the exception of one guy! Which brought down the rating.

Beward of members

We usually play Wented 6-8 times a year and have always enjoyed it. This past week however was a little different. It was extremely backed up. Eventhough we told the gentlemen behind us they insisted on hitting up on us and continued to try to push us when there was nowhere for us to go. We told the marshall and he said that they were members and not very friendly. By the end of the round I was ready to fire a couple balls back at them. Great course, great staff, stuffy and arrogant members.
