The Course at Wente Vineyards
About
Located less than an hour east of San Francisco, the Course at Wente Vineyards sprawls across the lush, rolling hills of Livermore Valley. Greg Norman carefully crafted the golf course, creating one of northern California's most challenging layouts. The course incorporates three different landscapes: woodlands, grassy meadows, and mature vineyards. All throughout the golf course though, golfers will be faced with dramatic elevation changes that cause tricky uneven lies but that also means there are panoramic views to be enjoyed on almost every hole. The fairways and landing areas are narrow and require good club management. The prevailing winds add another challenging element to the course. The Course at Wente Vineyards' back nine holes are more demanding with the par 3s being especially memorable. It is a tough but fair round that will reward proper club selection and strategy.

Golfer Reviews
Poor Condition Greens
Fairways, tee boxes, and sand traps were in very good condition. But greens had been aerated a few weeks prior and were still in poor condition, also several greens had minor damage (small divot type holes). Wente should not be charging full price until the greens are in normal condition.
Wente Review
Excellent course!! Friendly staff, beautiful views of the mountains and vineyards. Only complaint was the greens! Grrens were inder repair and full of sand!
Greens were like a beach
I have played this course before and like the layout and location very much. When I booked this round I noticed the greens had been airified. However, it turns out it was done the day before and the greens were top-sanded so much so that there was NO grass visible. It was a complete beach and putting was impossible. I have never experienced this anywhere before and think it is a bad decision to let customers play on greens like this. Maybe the greens keepers need to talk to other courses in the area...very disappointing.
My favorite course and experience in the East Bay!
As I placed by "stars" in the section above, I realized that there isn't one unique thing about Wente that blows me away - it's the combination of things, including the patio overlooking 18, and knowing that I'm going to have a great dinner at the restaurant there at the vineyard after a round. The rolling hills backdrop is always spectacular, and the layout of the course is always challenging, no matter which way the winds are blowing!
I would love to see the course condition improve a bit, but overall - I'd recommend this course to anyone looking for a beautiful challenge and a fun overall "experience".
Accomodating friendly staff
We had five in our group, it was nice of them to allow us out. Even after an overnight rainstorm the fairways and greens were in great shape!
Beautiful course! Nice view!
Very good designed golf course, dropped tee shot on a couple of holes, few holes on top of hills, need pay attention to slopes of greens, if it's uphill, it really uphill. No14, par 3, big drop, agains wind, made me unsure which club to use, gave me trouble. Over all experience was awesome.
Beautiful Challenge
For the average golfer the course may be too difficult to fully enjoy. Very narrow fairways and grape vines lining most fairways. Great looking course but a little to tough for me.
Great day!
Great round for 1st time there. Loved the many looks the course offered and the bunkers are pure powder. Beautiful course. Was the first time playing here but won't be the last.
A Class Act
Wente always delivers. Great layout, conditioning, service, value. One of the best in Norcal in my opinion. Subtle greens, fast but true. Good mix of par 3's and short par 4's. Love the 2nd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 12th, 18th. Bunkers have this heavy, coarse sand that just kills the clubhead speed. Swing hard.
Or stay out of the bunkers. The rough is tough also, deep and wiry A great test and a real gem.
From a newbie and future golf junkie
At first the thought of playing Wente was intimidating (30 index) but from the moment we chatted with the Starter, met our playing partners, and caught a view of the glorious first hole, I knew it was golf love at first sight. Got my first birdie, a couple of pars and my golf partner (12 index) was outstanding. I made friends with the cows and saw the most beautiful hawk but the peace and beautiful playing conditions were unmatched. It's always a treat to have your clubs cleaned on the 18th and the young man was a joy at the end of a long day. Of course, we followed it up with a little wine tasting and a fabulous dinner. A day that will be a long-time memory thanks to everyone at Wente.
Very scenic and challenging course
I had been looking forward to playing this course for awhile, but had always been a little hesitant because of the hour drive over from SF. I'm glad I finally made the trip over to play. The course has gorgeous views throughout, primarily due to its elevation changes. I was expecting to play many golf shots from non-level lies, but fortunately this was not the case. Driving range landing area was spacious but was a little awkward visually because of the uphill and sidehill sloping. Very challenging finishing hole - not easy staying dry on your approach to the green. Overall and simply put, it was a fun round on a nice course.
Awesome view amid vineyard surroundings.
One of the best course in the Tri-valley area. I have witnessed its beauty of colorful late autumn in addition to the challenge of mountain course.
Green, Green and Greeeen!!!!
I'm gonna keep it simple to the first thing I want to know when I ask about a course.
Hows the fairways look and feel? Not a dry spot on them!
Can I get down and through the ball with ease in the bunkers?
"Powder like" white sand (Like scoopin warm butter baby!)
Oh and...Free Range Balls, WooHoo!
SLow play for a tuesday?????
Course in great shape. Rough can be difficult. Greens smooth and fast. Unfortunately slow play detracts from the course. Marshall no help to speed up the slow groups.
Really enjoyed
Strongly recommend this golf course. Pretty well maintained and treated VIP, and most of all I was impressed by the driving range and Lombard street.
This course will make you work a bit
I love playing at Wenti. The views are fantastic and the course is tough but fair. There is always some "animal damage" on the fairways, but it wont take away from the overall experience. I'm from Philly and whenever I get out to the area I always schedule a round here.
