Located less than an hour east of San Francisco, the Course at Wente Vineyards sprawls across the lush, rolling hills of Livermore Valley. Greg Norman carefully crafted the golf course, creating one of northern California's most challenging layouts. The course incorporates three different landscapes: woodlands, grassy meadows, and mature vineyards. All throughout the golf course though, golfers will be faced with dramatic elevation changes that cause tricky uneven lies but that also means there are panoramic views to be enjoyed on almost every hole. The fairways and landing areas are narrow and require good club management. The prevailing winds add another challenging element to the course. The Course at Wente Vineyards' back nine holes are more demanding with the par 3s being especially memorable. It is a tough but fair round that will reward proper club selection and strategy.

Very scenic and challenging course

I had been looking forward to playing this course for awhile, but had always been a little hesitant because of the hour drive over from SF. I'm glad I finally made the trip over to play. The course has gorgeous views throughout, primarily due to its elevation changes. I was expecting to play many golf shots from non-level lies, but fortunately this was not the case. Driving range landing area was spacious but was a little awkward visually because of the uphill and sidehill sloping. Very challenging finishing hole - not easy staying dry on your approach to the green. Overall and simply put, it was a fun round on a nice course.

Awesome view amid vineyard surroundings.

One of the best course in the Tri-valley area. I have witnessed its beauty of colorful late autumn in addition to the challenge of mountain course.

Green, Green and Greeeen!!!!

I'm gonna keep it simple to the first thing I want to know when I ask about a course.
Hows the fairways look and feel? Not a dry spot on them!
Can I get down and through the ball with ease in the bunkers?
"Powder like" white sand (Like scoopin warm butter baby!)

Oh and...Free Range Balls, WooHoo!

SLow play for a tuesday?????

Course in great shape. Rough can be difficult. Greens smooth and fast. Unfortunately slow play detracts from the course. Marshall no help to speed up the slow groups.

Really enjoyed

Strongly recommend this golf course. Pretty well maintained and treated VIP, and most of all I was impressed by the driving range and Lombard street.

This course will make you work a bit

I love playing at Wenti. The views are fantastic and the course is tough but fair. There is always some "animal damage" on the fairways, but it wont take away from the overall experience. I'm from Philly and whenever I get out to the area I always schedule a round here.

Great Challenging Course

Playing in between vineyards with many elevated tees. This is a beautiful course and very challenging. The staff was terrific very friendly and helpful. The "drive" up to the 10th hole is named Lombard street and is more fun to drive than the real Lombard street.

Greens recently aerated so somewhat bumpy and sandy

Greens were aerated in the middle of Aug so they were still bumpy and it made putting more difficult since the sand kept putts from breaking as much as it looked and the greens were much slower than usual. Would have appreciated the Pro shop letting us know about the aeration, especially since we were charged regular greens fees.

Beautiful course, great layout.

Course was in great shape. Greens were aerated and sanded which took away a little bit of the experience since putting was a new kind of challenge. Overall a very nice experience and would go back in a heartbeat (after the greens return to normal).

You have to add this course to your bucket list !!!!!!!!

A truly five star course. Even playing from the whites presents a very good challenge. The changes in elevation from one hole to another is quite unique in itself. Bring plenty of balls, you will need them unless you have very good ball control. This course will challenge every aspect of your game. Got to play this course again.

Good Golfing Experience

Wente is a very nice well maintained and challenging course. No doubt it's one of the best courses in the area with well maintained fairways, bunkers and rock hard fast greens. Tee boxes are a bit spongy but that's about it.
They try to give you a private club experience but hey if you booked on golfnow and especially on of the hot deals they do it with a snobbish attitude. "Oh you got on golfnow" as if $75 for a 3pm tee time is chump change. I don't get it why they have to ruin a perfectly good experience with a snide comment. Happened twice now..

Very nice Golf Course

If your looking for a golf course that is challenging and that has great views The Course at Wente Vinyards should definitely be your choice. A course were you can go play the white tees at 5637 yds or challenge yourself and play the black at 7181 yds, Its a test for the long or short hitter. The course is challenging but fair, fairways are wide on most of the holes and if you happen to hit one into the ruff you have no problem finding your ball.
The views here are Great, drastic elevation changes on the first hole and at the turn which puts you on top of the foot hills looking down at the course and vineyards all around.
The only thing I disliked about the course was playing the blue tees, there were 4 par 4's that were 340yds or shorter, shortest being the 10th at 281yds. This was my first time playing this course and will probably play the gold tees next time to avoid the short par 4's and to add an additional 600yds to the course. Overall i loved the course the only thing i suggest if you plan on playing it check the weather first, the wind can blow 30mph and it can be over 100 degrees in the summer. Played at 2:50pm for $50 through golfnow and was lucky to play on an 80 degree day with about 15-20 mph winds.

I heard they fired the Superintendent recently and you can tell....

Do us a favor and give him his job back. Tees and greens normally in pristine shape and now they look like a muni :((

A pilgrimage one must make

Without question, one of the top public courses in the bay area. Prices can be a little steep, but considering the conditions of the course, well worth it. I played in the afternoon, so the wind can make the course harder than it already is. Not for the beginner. Very long with breathtaking views of the valley. In short, a must on ones list.

Overall I like this course, probably one of the best maintained golf course in the Bay Area with a stunning view over the winery.

As I walk towards the pro shop, a staff brought a cart to me and helped me check in in no time. The condition of the course itself was great. They don't seem to over book players so you can finish your round in less than four hours. I liked the elevated tee boxes where you can see stunning view of the area. There is fresh water running through the course in back nine in this dry valley, making the fairway even greener. That was extra. This course is particularly recommendable for players with low handicap given its relatively longer fairway (only a couple of par 4 hole with less than 400 yards. mostly more than 400 yards when you play gold tees)

Great course... if you have a gift card

Wente is a wonderful course, but it's not spectacular for the price.
And some of the staff are wonderful, but some of the staff are... well, what you might expect from Wente? We went into the clubhouse for lunch afterwards, and waited for 20 minutes with our menus closed, no one even came to offer us water. And there was no shortage of wait-staff, wandering slowly by in their sunglasses, completely ignoring everyone.
Needless to say, we left and found a more friendly Livermore establishment for lunch.
