Bear Creek Golf Club
About
Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Excellent value at high quality venue
Bear Creek Golf Club- presents an outstanding value at a high quality venue in Hilton Head. Outstanding value- usually comes in at well under $100 even in prime season. I paid $51 at the end of February, with a Coke and full lunch( who knows how that will pan out in the future). High Quality venue- There are several excellent tracks in Hilton Head Plantation. I would rank Bear Creek just a notch below Country Club of Hilton Head, but at a lower price. I would say, it is a half notch above Dolphin Head, at a similar price, and above Oyster Reef, due to issues I have had at Oyster Reef with mosquitos(sorry, guys). Pick a tee box suited to your driving distance and accuracy( I am a 12.2 and play it at around 6300?). It is not the most forgiving off the tee, but certainly the site lines off the tee box are outstanding, with well defined hazard and bunker lines. The greens SEEM to run about a foot faster than most similarly priced Hilton Head tracks.
Challenging but fun
Pros. Great layout fun to play. Challenging. Great condition
Cons. Pace of play today was on the slow side.
great track
I have vacationed at HH in March for a total of three weeks over the last four years and have played about 7 courses. This was one of my favorite along with Golden Bear. It was in great shape (3rd week of March) and was really fun to play. It was quite challenging... you had to place your shots well. Highly recommend.
Bear Creek - worth it!
We golfed Bear Creek for the 2nd time this year. Conditions at this time of year - for winter golf - were good. Greens rolled very nicely. Golfed with a couple from New Jersey - and had a great time. Finished our round in under 4 hours. We will golf here again next year - for sure!
Very fair test of golf
Very fair test of golf. Not tricked up. Very straight forward.
Lots of female players and couples.
Interesting Course
Nice course that has wintered fairly well. Fairways need some over seeding but greens were in good shape.
Slow round but decent course
5 1/2 hour round of golf, as it was busy. 1st day of sunshine in a few days so everyone was out playing. Pace of play was slow but not excruciating. Course was well worth the money. Watch out for the alligators sunning themselves around the water.
Bear Creek
Course layout challenging but sand traps hard and in poor shape.
Fun day
Had a very enjoyable round, paired with a twosome of older gentleman. The course needs to address their sand traps, they are hard and very short on sand. It also has several dogleg right holes, works against my draw. Greens were in good shape, quick and rolled well. Pace was quite good just over 4 hours to finish.
Rough around the edges
A few tee boxes with virtually no grass. Bunkers have no sand. It's like hitting out of concrete. Many rough areas closest to the fairway have no grass. Could be a nice layout if it was better cared for.
Other nearby options are better value.
Bear Creek
Bear Creek is a must play when in Hilton Head. 5 star golf course - for winter golf!
Wonderful
Everything was great. Course in great shape for this time of year. Greens smooth. Pace of play excellent. Ranger friendly, but doing his job.
Sand traps were no good at all. Very little sand in some spots.
Greens were smooth and true.
Pro shop staff was just ok no overly helpful.
Outdoor staff was excellent.
Today we tamed the bear!
Weather warmed up enough to let the ball fly some and we took advantage. Very well kept course with perfect greens. A round of golf in under 4 hours on HHI is always appreciated.
a course worth playing
busy but moved along well - hot deal so a good value on a good course
Good value course
Always a pleasure to play. Greens were in good shape
