About
Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Golfer Reviews
Nice first time
Even though it’s about an hour from home (Savannah) it was worth the drive. The greens had been punches recently but the ball rolled okay. Traps were in good shape. Complimentary range balls too.
Great Value course on HHI
Great course for the value. Typical tree lined HHI course and the greens rolled perfectly fine! Bunkers could use some work but other then that I have no complaints!
Bear Creek
Hidden gem. Greens were true. Bunkers very playable. Good value!!
Great value great course
This course was a great value. Course was in great condition. Pace of play was great. A group teed off in front of us and never saw anyone in front or behind us the rest of the round. Only critique is that a lot of the holes looked the same throughout the round and club house didn’t have our tee time listed but they let us tee off when we arrived so we did not have a chance to hit the range beforehand.
Mistake to NOT play this course
Played Bear Creek on June 21, 2020, first time I had played it. I've been vacationing in Hilton Head since 2004 but just saw this course on golfnow.com this year, thought I'd give it a try. Played from the tips. I cannot tell you how phenomenal this course is. We will be coming back to Hilton Head next year, and Bear Creek is definitely on our list of courses to play. If you are planning to play golf while you're in Hilton Head, it would be a huge mistake if you don't play Bear Creek. After our round, I asked the pro shop why I hadn't heard about this great course, he said they had been private until just a few years ago. I can't give this course enough stars. And one more thing--grab lunch or dinner while you're there, was absolutely delicious. All around fantastic day, shot a 73.
The course was nice. A lot of the traps were poor.
Took us 45 extra minutes to find the course. GPS was no help. After we got there we started and never had anyone holding us up. Had a alligator on 1st hole that was interesting. Had to take relief from him being only feet away from my ball. All in all nice course and very challenging.
Worth the $$$
Course was in great shape compared to others in the area considering aerification season. Greens were rolling smooth and true. Definitely worth the price for the local rate of $37. MId-afternoon tee time played as a twosome just around 3 hours. KId at the bag drop was very un-attentive and didn't even get out of the cart he was chillin in. Walked away from a $20 cash tip we were trying to give him. All else was great!
Great local course
I’ve played this course a few times. It is challenging. However, it makes you play your best to score a great score. I will be returning.
Tricky but enjoyable
Definitely a place-your-ball sort of course. Choose your shot wisely, especially on the front-9, where I wound up with 7 penalties. I enjoyed it though, and the staff were nice. Would definitely play here again.
Top course to play
From the moment we pulled up you felt a warm bear feel to the course. We started with the 10th hole as that's how the pro shop said it was playing. Back 9 spectacular. Then the front 9 was even more spectacular. A must play!!! Great layout. I played from the whites & was able to par a few. Yes saw few gators but they stayed in the water & I was dry & focused on my game & nature. Very scenic & truly friendly members there. Great southern charm on HHI!!!!
Excellent value at high quality venue
Bear Creek Golf Club- presents an outstanding value at a high quality venue in Hilton Head. Outstanding value- usually comes in at well under $100 even in prime season. I paid $51 at the end of February, with a Coke and full lunch( who knows how that will pan out in the future). High Quality venue- There are several excellent tracks in Hilton Head Plantation. I would rank Bear Creek just a notch below Country Club of Hilton Head, but at a lower price. I would say, it is a half notch above Dolphin Head, at a similar price, and above Oyster Reef, due to issues I have had at Oyster Reef with mosquitos(sorry, guys). Pick a tee box suited to your driving distance and accuracy( I am a 12.2 and play it at around 6300?). It is not the most forgiving off the tee, but certainly the site lines off the tee box are outstanding, with well defined hazard and bunker lines. The greens SEEM to run about a foot faster than most similarly priced Hilton Head tracks.
Challenging but fun
Pros. Great layout fun to play. Challenging. Great condition
Cons. Pace of play today was on the slow side.
