Bear Creek Golf Club
About
Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

great course
great layout, good condition, fair but challenging
Great Fun today at Bear Creek
Course was in very good condition and greens fast and true. Staff was friendly. Course was busy and Play was a little slow.
Charming bargain
Friendly and charming course to play. With superb lunch (and draft beer!) delivered to our cart on the 10th, fast greens, and a delightful Canadian twosome to play we, it was a wonderful last round in HHI!
GPS Mapping App Required
I looked forward to my first visit to Bear Creek and was really flustered. The people in the pro shop had largely blank expressions when I asked where to find the course layout, or if could I purchase a yardage book. There was nothing that helped identify hidden water hazards, bunkers, or the actual fairway or green shape.
Just as we were moving to the starter one of the fellows came out of the shop to tell me about a phone app that included the course layout; timeliness and poor signal strength prevented a start for the download.
I will share this exoerience my friends back home at the club.
A very interesting and pleasing layout was difficult to enjoy because we had to play it totally blind.
Also, if you plan to eat there be sure to check before you tee off as to what foods/ offerings they are out of!
Excellent Value
This golf course is a very good test! Greens were in excellent shape and overall very good tee to green. Some slightly bare spots, but it is just coming out of winter in the low country. In two to three weeks with warmer temps it should be really nice. We were a two ball first out of the day with a cart and played in 3:15 easily. Could have been two and a half if we wanted . Best bonus here is the lunch and beer included with your green fee. Order right off the regular menus. Food was great and service couldn't have been better.
Highly recommended! This course needs to be played from the correct tees. It is a very good test. Enjoy!
Good Pace of Play
Pace of play was pretty good at ~4 hrs 15 min. Lots of traps and water hazards, making the course challenging. Would say it is like most other island courses. Well maintained and good for the money spent. Did not eat at the restaurant, but heard food is pretty good here.
Bear Creek Has Completed Comeback
Bear Slide went on hard times, deteriorated, changed ownership, and needed work. And the new owners and management did what was needed. The course is back up to a good standard - not great yet, nut you can see improvement continuing. The greens are already quite good. A decent value now, they are no longer discounting like they did the past few years. They don’t have to.
Really nice course
The course has a good layout. For late February the course was in quite good condition. Nice driving range and putting green for warmup. Pretty friendly staff and good service bring lunch to you out on the course.
We will be back
enjoyed course
liked layout, staff was friendly
this course see's a lot of play from gold tees (5800) - play whites (6200) - allows more drivers on doglegs without affecting 2nd shots
Disappointed
Upon check in there was confusion on the Club Key Pass charge. It took two people to figure out what the charge, would be, which was higher than the rate quoted on the website. It was a beautiful day so the course was packed. Pace of play was extremely slow. We were a twosome but waited on every hole. In fact the twosome behind us ended up quitting after hole 16. It is off season but the fairways were pretty rough and some bunkers were in rough shape. We were very disappointed and will not return.
Great Course and Staff
This was the first time we played Bear Creek and we will return on our next rip to Hilton Head. Greens were very nice, great speed and condition. Fairways were in good condition and fair. The only complaint I have is that the greenside bunkers were almost hard packed. They had a very little bit of loose sand covering hard pack.
We play as a twosome and had to wait on several shots, but I expect that as a twosome, The round took about 4 hours.
The staff was great. From the greeting and the courtesy of the staff at the bag drop, the staff in the clubhouse, and the starter were all very friendly and nice.
Seem to be letting the course go!
I've played Bear Creek a half dozen times in 2018. The course looks like they've cut back on maintenance a bit. The cart attendant acted like he didn't want to be there. Really disappointing since it seemed like the course was turning the corner earlier in the year. Hope this was a one off experience.
Island gem
I’ve visited Hilton Head 3 times in the past year and a half and played Bear Creek each visit. The course was on life support two years ago and the revival has been fantastic. Great Layout and tee to green course condition improves each visit.
scolars
Got a good value on Golf Now. I played here a few years ago and tried it again. It was a pleasure to play. The course was in good shape and the greens ran true and fast. Make sure you play from the tees you are comfortable with. We hit balls and got off early. I would recommend it to all.
NIce But Not Exceptional
Course was well maintained wide open with little water. Given other courses that go to the marsh views this is all around houses.
On a hot deal might play again
