About
Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Golfer Reviews
Bear is a beautiful beast...
There are four tracks on Hilton Head Plantation...I always have difficulty picking my favorite. It usually boils down to which one I've played most recently.
I played Oyster Reef on Monday; it was my favorite until today when I played Bear Creek (again).
Everything about this place screams private club, but it's for the public. Course layout is challenging, but more than fair. Off-fairway balls are findable/playable. Greens are in GREAT shape. Pace of play was spot on (4 hours for our foursome without feeling rushed/pressured). Staff is very friendly and professional.
I wish the pro shop was a bit bigger, but that's just me whining.
If you are looking for GREAT golf on HHI, play this track.
Yes Virginia, there are doglegs here...
Read other reviews criticizing lack of signage or unseen hazards...but course is all about shot selection and management. Yes there are a lot of doglegs but if you are playing from the proper tees the course is fairly laid out. When we came to one of the few straight away holes my wife even commented “that’s a bit boring” after having to navigate the prior left and right turns. Some bunkers might surprise you if you miss the green but they are not unfair...just wish that they had more sand in them., my only gripe and why course conditions lost a star.
Nice course poorly signed
A nice course that’s well maintained, but the absence of signage showing each hole on the scorecard and at each tee box made the course harder than it had to be for first-time players. We found hidden water the hard way. Too, having only one drinking water stand on the back nine was tough on a hot July day. You’d think the competition on HHI would make them want to do better.
Nice course
Very nice golf course. Layout was nice and the course condition was great! We haven't had any success in going for a drink after the round. Either they are closed or they are preparing for private event.....so if you just want to have a drink after the round, you're out of luck.
Fun course to play
I must play for HH. One straight hole on the course. Lots of doglegs. You have to place your ball. Not a bombers course.
Disappointing
Played this course a week earlier, conditions were great. Played again 5/31, booked the tee time on line and NOWHERE did it say the greens were punched two days earlier. When I inquired about this, the person at the course said “90 percent of the people who book tee times do it by phone. We don’t have a way of putting that kind of information on line.”
Okay then. So much for this being 2019. And where exactly does she think you get phone numbers these days??
Naturally, no discount was offered. Also, When my playing partner asked if there was any coffee available, the answer was “nope.”
I know the tee time was early (7:32 am), but the lack of coffee in the shop AND cooperation from the shop employee left much to be desired.
Bottom line, I suppose: call the club before you play at Bear Creek. Or. Play at any number of other more cooperative clubs.
No need to pay big bucks to play good HHI courses
Bear Creek is an excellent course that will challenge your game. Nice fairways and tee boxes with excellent greens. Good use of sand and water to keep your game honest. Only dings are lack of ball washers and filled water jugs on each hole.
Walking is Members Only
I went there cuz I wanted to walk, indicated as available on the website. Got there and was told, well that's for members only. Disappointing. Also, cart parts are dirt, so if you're in the second cart, stay way behind!
Fun experience!
Good course! Nice layout. Played for the first time and that’s tough to do. When you don’t know the course you will end up in trouble. Many, many bunkers, lots of water, lots of force carries, and more than a few gators. Enjoy!!!
Great track
Great track. Greens were firm and fast. Lots of short dogleg par 4s. Par 5s and 3s are decent length. The greens fee included lunch and a beer! I would definitely play again.
Avid golfer. This is a great track
Played from the blue tees. Greens were in great shape. Firm and fast. They were recently verticut but still rolled really true. Not a lot of undulating greens but we’ll protected by bunkers. Most par 4s are dogleg right on the front and left on the back. Decent length par 5s and 3s. The bonus lunch and beer was awesome to be included in the greens fees. Super value and condition.
At one time this was a good course
Great layout but minimal maintenance has reduced the joy factor. Bunkers not very good, greens are ok, tee boxes uneven and worn. There are better courses for the money.
