Bear Creek Golf Club
About
Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Challenging but Fun
Usually go off-island, but found good deal through Golf Now. Had done the front nine a couple of times last year but did full 18 this time. Greens were perfect. Plenty of traps and water. Glad we brought lots of balls. Was a cool day,(low 60's) and windy so course was not crowded. Noticed that pull carts are permitted. Will return if good deals continue.
Still a bit rough around the edges
I first played Bear Creek two years ago. I played it several times then and last year. Before this year you could play for $40 and got a free lunch and a beer. Saturday I played at 9:40 on a Saturday and it cost me $80 and no lunch or beer. Good news is that they put new sand in most of the traps which was a problem the last couple of years. Bad news is that the traps were not raked from the day before. In addition it appeared that the greens and fairways were not blown off. Besides needing some daily TLC we played behind a foursome that were members. They walked and as a result our round was well over 4 hours.
Don’t get me wrong - this is a great course. The layout is great. But they are still searching for their niche. At $40 bucks last year with a free lunch it was an awesome value. At $80 with no lunch its not worth it. Hopefully management will find some care takers that will give it the TLC it needs and bring the price down a bit.
Not up to par with other local courses
Set up golf for my group on a Tuesday and the course was not up to par with other local courses. Dirt cart paths, un manicured bunkers, lack of overseeding on fairways and roughs and tees made the course ratty and tough to get a good lie. A slow round and below average conditioning makes the course one of the weakest in the area and a good idea to look elsewhere to play.
Nice layout
Some very interesting holes. Only criticism was the tee boxes were set up so that it was difficult to determine the length to play because of the way the tee boxes were set up
Nice course poor pace
No dining room so no food and had to make request for a bag of peanuts and chips. Group ahead of us were 3 holes behind next group and would not let us pass. I liked the course but the experience was poor. Had a great last 4 holes after we skipped a hole to get past the '‘Hilton Head Sea'nior turtles’ in front of us. Course needs a Marshall.
below average for the area
Memorable 1st hole and last hole. (18 was a great hole to finish. The other 16 are very boring and in fact, I really can't remember most of them. Winter conditions for the course were OK. Course needs updating.
Jam too many players onto the course
They are only concerned for putting as many players on the course as possible. The greens are nice but the rest of the course needs a lot of work. Tees, fairway, rough, bunkers are weak or bad. There are no cart paths so you are eating dust all day long.If that is all you want then play here but there are much better options on and off the Island.
Good Value
Good value thru GOLF NOW_Includes sandwich and beer, otherwise about par for a Hilton Head course.
Good Greens roll nice ! Busy but pace was good !
Great Course
Got paired up with a local named Jim and his buddy Ken
Very patient and friendly guys as my wife's pace of play is very slow (Thanks Guys) Staff very friendly and on point.
Nice but needs a few changes
Green fee included lunch BUT, the kitchen closes at 4:00 pm so if you have a tee time around noon, plan on having lunch at 11:00 am! No food available at the turn where you would have your early lunch? Need to put towels on ball washers and in the carts! Pace of play was ok and the course was in good shape!
Staff..perfect
Thanks for a great day of golf. we had a great day of golf and the course was great. Nice to see all the hurricane damage repaired and back better than ever
Bear Creek - Wonderful atmosphere
We really enjoyed playing Bear Creek and were pleasantly suprised when we were each handed a voucher for a free meal in the dining room. Excellent burger, quick service and pleasant atmosphere. Good practice facilities. Quick, professional staff in Pro Shop. Course was good for all level of players. Beautiful homes surround the course but are well set back in the Carolina pine forest.
Decent layout
The course isn’t very long, but it’s challenging. Fairways and tee boxes could use a mowing. Greens were in good shape.
Great Layout
Best value on the island. Tremendous layout in excellent condition. Bunkers were a little rough after the big storm but certainly playable. Will definitely book again next timeback on thevisland.
Good Value
We were able to make a last minute tee time while on vacation on HHI. Turns out that we were the last tee time before they aerified the fairways. The course was in decent shape and we enjoyed our round although the foursome in front of us were slow and there was no marhsal in site. We also never saw a beverage cart and that would have been nice since it was hot and humid. The layout was typical HHI with doglegs and some unseen water hazards. Excellent value for the price we piad and we would play again if they hadn't punched the fairways.
