San Marcos Golf Resort
About
The golf course at the San Marcos Golf Resort boasts an impressive list of past players that includes presidents and celebrities. The golf course is nestled on a property in downtown Chandler that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Although it has a desert landscape, the course is still lush with a canal that runs through it, a lake, and plush Bermuda grass greens, the former two creating water hazards that come into play on several holes. The San Marcos Golf Resort course is challenging with each hole having at least three bunkers. The two most difficult holes on the golf course are two lengthy par 4s, the fourth and the 10th.

Morning view down the Par-5 5th fairway. A strong drive, especially to the center-right fairway, sets you up to go for the green in two! Photo submitted by vmustang on 04/25/2021

Decent course
Pretty flat, pretty average, fairways were sorta scruffy, like a lot of others this time of year, greens were okay.
If you’re in the rough, you’re on hard hard ground. Dinged a couple clubs, but overall the course was in fair shape.
Good place to play
The staff was great. They were able to keep play moving. Price was on point. Greens were in great shape. Overall I will be going back.
Great course for the money. Lots of open grass with large mature trees, different than most Arizona courses. Staff is very friendly.
Awesome nostalgic course
Great course to play at especially for the price . Hazards were fun and sometimes forgiving , good greens and tee boxes.
Decent rate of play , saw one Marshall on the course a few times . Beer cart came at least twice , I know that’s important to some of my fellow golfers. Lots of big trees around to keep you cool and park the cart. Would love to play here again !
San Marcos crossfire
The course was in good shape the driving range is limited range golf balls and irons only kind of disappointing but the other Amenities were nice and Staff was great and friendly. The course is situated to where you are in a crossfire often when you find yourself or others playing in the wrong fairway which happens. Thats the only negative about this course and I would play there again.
Above and Beyond
As mentioned in previous reviews, pace of play was an issue. Ladies tee boxes and some of the bunkers need some attention. But this is what will keep us coming back: when my friend pulled into the bag check, one of the guys noticed she had a nail & a screw in her tire. While they unloaded her clubs she was told "If want to leave your keys, we will pull your car over and change the tire when things slow down a bit. Later, as we pulled up to Hole #4, here comes Mike with the keys! He confirmed he had taken off the bad tire & put on her spare. WOW! Thanks Mike for going above and beyond. You definitely saved the day and allowed us to enjoy the rest of our round!
Shockingly great condition
For a morning round under $80 this course had premier level course conditions... Tee boxes, fairways, rough, sand traps, and greens were all on great display here. You would never think it’s the oldest grass course in AZ.
Great Value and Fun!!
The course is laid out really well. Be careful of the creek that winds throughout the course. It is marked with yellow markers.
Notice the home once owned by Al Capone. Stunning.
Also, some other history to be had, as this is the oldest course in the Phoenix Metro area!!!
Excellent round of golf on a legendary course in AZ!
My favorite AZ course for challenge, value, pace and course condition. I am rarely waiting for others or being chased. I use almost every club while playing. The greens and fairways are in great shape. I love the risk vs. reward decisions on 9 and 18. Nice wide fairways if you want to rip your driver, but you are also rewarded for being able to shape your shots left and right. The staff is always kind and knowledgeable. Kelly in the bar takes great care of her customers. Happy to recommend the oldest public course in AZ!
