Junior National Golf Club
About
Junior National Golf Club (formerly known as Tres Rios Golf Course at Estrella Mountain Park and Estrella Mountain Golf Course) is rich with dense forestry including eucalyptus, mesquite, and pine trees as well as cottonwoods. The course has a parkland-style layout with rolling fairways lined with trees and undulating greens that are medium-sized and fast. To add more challenge to the golf course, water hazards and bunkers come into play on several holes. The par-4 seventh hole is considered the most difficult driving hole on the course. There are stately trees off the tee and the second shot is to a narrow sloping green. Junior National Golf Club features multiple tee boxes for a variety of different golfing options.

Poor conditions
On a cool overcast morning, played course with 13-year old son. Booked on golfnow but gave me junior rate! Nice. Got off earlier than scheduled. That's as far as good goes. Course in horrible condition. Tee boxes chewed up, little grass on them. Greens were hard and extremely fast, rough was either sandy weeds or overgrown dead long weeds.
A very nice course.
I loved the course, had a great day. A little more expensive then I normally like to pay.
Good course for the cost
The pace of play was much better (4hrs) than previous experiences (5+) during afternoon play. The greens were in great shape and the fairways had been watered earlier in the day. Also there was a Marshal keeping an eye on the pace of play.
NIce Afternoon
Fairways are great, the green could us some work, spotty and cut very short. No way to hit the green and keep the ball on as fast and hard as the green was.
Love this course!
Every time I golf here, I enjoy it exactly like the first time I golfed there. Great shape through the year, but has its hard times with the heat, but over the winter it is amazing! That's AZ for you!!
A very enjoyable course.
This course has something for all golfers. It can be a tough from the black tees and yet friendly from the white.
Tres Rios is a beginners course
This is my least favorite course in the Phoenix area and there are a lot of reasons. Dirt cart paths, gopher mounds, conjested layout (holes overlap so tee boxes are near greens), lots of dead area (dead trees, dead grass, dirt) between holes. There was a green that had a gopher hole in the middle and the rough was non existant. It looks like they wanted to save time so they cut the rough around the greens the same length as the fairway. I saw some kids riding their cart over tee boxes and on the green. People were extremely loud when you're trying to tee off so this is a beginners course at best. After the round your golf bag and belongings will be extremely dusty due to the dirt cart paths. There are too many courses in the area that cost the same and are much nicer so I won't be back.
Not so good
This course was really badly maintained. The Fairways and greens were fine but the rest was the pits! To many things to mention. This course is called Tres Rios/Estrella Mountain.
Great Value
Nice track for the money, no condos, no homes.nice views .
The greens have dried out after the re seeding, their back to firm & good speed.
Some bunkers could use attention and additional sand.
Tres Rios is one of my favorite courses. I have played it for many years and it's wide open for the player who isn't the most accurate. A lot of trees make missed shots a penalty, rough was cut down so balls were easy to find. Greens were in excellent condition, pace of play was slow for a Tuesday afternoon (started at 12:45 and finished at 5:30)
this course was.in very good shape
I really enjoyed my experience on the course and plan to return. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the price was affordable. I look forward to my next round there
Gopher Sanctuary
About a year ago this course (and new mgmt company) had made great strides to improve the conditions of this course. Yesterday, however, as we turned off Estrella Parkway towards the course I could see hundreds of huge gopher mounds from the road (1/4 mile away!). I have NEVER seen the amount of destruction to a course as I had seen yesterday, it was bad enough these mounds were on every fairway, but even some of the greens had gopher holes! Very, very sad what they have ALLOWED this course to denegrate to. Had I thought about I should have taken pictures with my phone to display.
Good price but Course needs some TLC
Positives:
Great friendly staff!
Amazing Tee boxes, Greens and Fairways!
Great Price!
Golf Cart Died and was replaced within 5 minutes!
Happy hour Beer Prices were amazing!
Negatives:
Holes 1 and 10 infested with Locusts
Gophers or possum holes everywhere on course
Rough is extra short and burnt out
Course is still recovering from overseeding, but greens are decent.
Bring something to drink and keep a wet towel handy because there is no water to drink on the course and nearly all the ball washers are gone. Some spots on the course need repair, but if the green fees are under $30, Tres Rios is a good value for your money. Fairways are still a little long, but that should improve if they get out their mowers.
Fair condition course, staff friendly
Course in fair condition. A number of holes have mounds of dirt, possibly caused by rodents. But numerous and need to be maintained daily to eliminate if that is the case. If ball hits mound, the ball stops. One golf cart often backfired, the other had to be returned during first hole of play because of malfunction. Work needs to be done to make the experience more attractive.
The course is in very good condition.
The course is in very good condition. The speed of the greens is improving as the it is no longer slow. The pace of play is good.
very poor condition see why it wasnt busy on a Sunday
.oCourse was loaded with gopher moles and their mounds of dirt were everywhere greens were slow and very bumpy
Pleasant and challenging
The course itself was a pleasure to play and just challenging enough for the amateur golfer who is looking for a friendly place to hit the golf ball around while you attempt to improve their. The staff were extremely nice and helpful to their customers and knowledgeable of the course. If I had to find just one flaw it would have to be that the round was slow. I myself prefer a quicker pace but the nice weather and pleasant atmosphere more than made up for the slow play. I would suggest this course to anyone who wants a relaxing day of golf with their friends and/or loved ones.
Fun course to Play.
Greens were smooth, fairways need more grass, like to new flags on the greens.
