Junior National Golf Club
About
Junior National Golf Club (formerly known as Tres Rios Golf Course at Estrella Mountain Park and Estrella Mountain Golf Course) is rich with dense forestry including eucalyptus, mesquite, and pine trees as well as cottonwoods. The course has a parkland-style layout with rolling fairways lined with trees and undulating greens that are medium-sized and fast. To add more challenge to the golf course, water hazards and bunkers come into play on several holes. The par-4 seventh hole is considered the most difficult driving hole on the course. There are stately trees off the tee and the second shot is to a narrow sloping green. Junior National Golf Club features multiple tee boxes for a variety of different golfing options.

Course was poorly managed!
I booked a 2 pm tee time. The course was overbooked, we waited 45 minutes past my tee time waiting for a cart, and played behind two pairs of fivesomes. We did get to play through the first one.
Terrible course and conditions
Several groups, The Men's Group, The Players have refused to continue to play under the conditions this course has presented to it's clients the last three (3) years. The staff is not response to problems of the tall grass on the course. They response to say there's only one (1) mower....for the last three (3) yerars. They continue to have a shortage of carts on hand, 30 in total for the last three (3) years. Manager John is not capable of keeping the pace of golfers on the first tee to get out in an timely manner. And refuses to give raincheck tickets when the time of five (5) hrs and above is reached.
Greens were slow and some of the fairways were not in great shape, but they just finished their overseed a couple of weeks ago.
This time of year there are not many courses open in the West Phoenix area due to over seeding. Tres Rios is one of the few open and they get extra play because of that.
Terrible shape. Needs cart paths. Rough - knocks thw wheels off the cart!
Could be nice course. Great views. OK layout. Bunkers just junk. Can't believe someone bought this & doesn't upgrade-even modestly. We won't be back. Not even for $25. Sorry.
Greens are in good shape but overall the course is pretty rough.
Golf Now did not have an over seeding alert nor cart path only indicator. We got to the course and found out you could only take the cart in the rough since there are very few cart paths. We won't be back.
Great
Excellent price for this time of year. I always got the times I desired. Staff was accommodating since I seek others the play with since I comes as a single.
A good challange
Greens a great and staff is great. Over seeding was just done when I played so I cant wait to go back when grass is fully grown.
Nice Track,
I have a hard time being negative on this course. I like it, but the conditions where not what I think they should be.
They may be prepping for overseed,
When the course is properly maintained its fun to play. Yes its a bit of a drive, but its generally worth it.
Give it a try.
the course is more than zcceptable.
the course is nearby where I live so it's a plus. I find the course
suitable for easy play and practice. It is maintained except the
gas cart that I had was not running very well. It was uncomfortable.
Wonderful Conditions
The course is in great shape following over seeding. Greens run true but a little slow right now. Entire group of employees were very helpful happy and ready to assist in anyway. Go check this course out. GPS in carts nice surprise.
Awefule experience
We left after 9 holes. The carts are being leased and they hardly ran. The pace of play was awful, the greens were shaggy and I will never return!
The same isssues time and time again.
The course packs in the players, but does not have a starter or marshals on the course. They start players on the first and the ninth holes so play gets backed up and play times escalate in a hurry, especially if they have a tournament, so make sure you call ahead to see what's scheduled for that day. They also have a habit of sending off fivesomes, which really slows things down. The etiquette on the course is poor, with many players refusing to let a single of a double play through slower foursomes. The roughs are really deep on most of the holes, so be prepared to hunt for your balls which really slows the pace of play down. Count on the possibility of a lost ball or two . UGH!
Plus they have nearly doubled the monthly fees to $150 month, plus $12 a round whether you walk or cart it. They call it a service fee. Seriously ?
Play anywhere else
This may be the worst golf course in the whole valley. Poorly maintained, slow play is the norm, and the people who run it are jerks.
While trying to putt on the 18th hole, I had a groundskeeper drive by with an air blower and blow grass shavings and dirt all over me and into my eyes. When I went to complain they tried to buy me off with a free round instead of disciplining the worker.
You couldn't pay me to play this course again!
crazy design
this course if you have never played it it is layed out crazy. if your not paying attention your one the wrong hole...i like it I had a great game
Bargain course
Average up keep. Little rough around the edges. greens could use a little more upkeep. and fairways a little more water. Overall three stars for the low price.
course good, proshop Employees... bad!!!
In all honesty, the course was descent, had a little maintenance issues but for the most part was fun and "up to Par". although the course experience was great, experience with the staff was just short of diabolically Rude. Keep in mind this is my fiancee and my brother's first time hitting the course together. We were finishing up hole seventeen, as we see the gentleman that gave us the carts and service race at us in a cart yelling... "your finished", "your finished", "bring it in"!!!!!. we were on time and steady, so we decided we would finish hole 18. as we tee off, the not-so-gentelman was standing on the green waving his arms, as i looked up my online reservation on the pda in my golf bag i realized, on the website for this particular course they offer twighLight hours, which it was 5:45 when we were on 17, sunset was 7:35, i recommend you golf somewhere else where you will get a full 18. Gwg
Good Layout
I liked the course lay out. The majority of the holes on the front nine required a fade while the back nine required a draw for many of the holes. I also like that the course isn't surrounded by any homes and has a abundance of trees.
The down side of Tres Rios is course condition which is spotty. For the most part, the greens were in nice condition but tee boxes and fairways are in need of attention. The cost of playing Tres Rios is very reasonable and the experience of playing there, even with the course condition, was a good one.
Not well maintained
The grass was very think, even on the fairway. Easy to loose your ball. Paths are rough and many gopher holes made it hard to get around.
Course was in rough shape
Course was in poor shape. A lot of tree branches on fairways, and animals had dug holes where mounds of dirt were still present on 3 greens. Fairways were hard to make out as they were uncut.
Tres Rios charges extra
I booked a tee time on Golf Now.com for $7/person plus $10.50 for fees. For 4 people that should have been $38.50. Tres Rios charged me $51. Call before you go to the course if you reserve a tee time on Golfnow.com
