Southern Ridge Golf Club

About
Southern Ridge Golf Club, formerly known as Bougainvillea Golf Club, offers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the valley. The South and Estrella Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the golf course. Southern Ridge is known for more than its views though, it has a unique layout that combines six par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s. The championship course plays to 6,751 yards. It offers a good amount of length for long hitters but it is still player-friendly enough for beginners thanks to generous fairways and large, undulating greens. Although the fairways are wide, don't be lulled into a sense of security. They are flanked with more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are enough challenges for an interesting round but it's not an overly difficult golf course.

Tin Cup With the Beer-Stained T-Shirt and All
I think the only reason this place stays open is for the curiosity seekers. One guy described the driving range as 'hitting into a landfill' ... he's right. I am not even sure how they recollect the balls later. The golf cart ran fine, but that was probably because they recently picked-up some other courses used ones. The course layout is a typical parkland style affair, which is fine. There is some 'grass' on the fairways and some 'grass' on the greens. Beyond that, it gets pretty rough calling this a golf course. For an area that has had more rain than usual, several greens were 'sanded' because of bad patches. I am not sure how this place gets to be in the summer (?). Any thing right or left and you've just entered 'The Twilight Zone'--it is the consistency of a cart path without the path. (You can always hope for a weed patch or the other fairway.) As I told my buddy as we warmed-up for the round, 'We've hit the high-rent district now, baby'. We hit something that's for sure.
Terrible
This course is in the worse shape I have seen it in the 3 years I have been playing it. The greens are completely destroyed and for an above average putter, this just takes about 50% of my game away. The course always has lots of dirt areas but not it seems to be creeping into the fairways. The staff is friendly but the condition of the course doesn't warrant the gas I spent to get to the course. Very disappointed because it is a fun layout for an above average to average golfer.
Good layout, fast play until back nine when group ahead of us slowed signifantly.
The price was right bu the fairways are in poor condition, like hitting the ball on hard pan.
Greens are Garbage
I play this course usually 3-4 times a year when I want an inexpensive round of golf at an average at best course. That being said, this course isn't worth paying money to play in its current condition, the greens are the worst I have seen in my 25+ years of golfing, the dirt is expanding into the fairways and tee boxes are uneven. Overall the course allowed me to practice hitting out of dirt, being accurate off the tee and nothing else as the condition of the course is just awful. The staff is friendly although they did under sell the condition of the course, save your money, putt putt is more valuable to your golf game than this course right now.
Course needs work
I have played this course before and it's usually in good shape. The greens are very bumpy, some fairways could use some work and there is lots of dirt if you miss the fairway. Course seems to stay wet, so you can sometimes encounter mud balls. The layout is unique with the 6 par 3's, 4's, and 5's. Its usually not crowded so the pace of play is usually good.
Don't waste your money!
Don't waste your money playing here. First, when hitting on the driving range was something out of tin cup. It was like hitting balls into a landfill. Then, when I asked for some ice to keep my water bottle cool when we first started I was ridiculed and challenged by the staff for having my own beverages. Once on the golf course at hole one, things started out okay until you get to the greens. If you don't mind putting on hard pack ground and your ball bouncing up and down like a Mickey Mouse sing along then I am sure you will love it. Most of the Par 3' s greens looked like a small landmines. On the golf cart there was a note on the front of the cart about staying on the cart path however in several areas of the course the cart path ended and had 3-4 inches of water or mud that you had to drive through. Not to mention the amount of mud your ball would pick up along the way and having a ball wash every four holes. There were holes where you were 20 yards in front of the green and sitting in dirt. Wow!!! Then on the back nine, (I believe hole 16) it seemed like a tractor or a tank had driven straight through the middle of the green. Lastly, when we had finished the round of goofy golf and the Manager asked how everything went and I told him some of the issues about the course. He responded that he had no idea and had not been out there. Poor golf course management and extremely over priced for the value of playing golf in the mud.
Southern Ridge
Have played this course in the past but it was in not so good condition. I can say that new owners have made this is 100% improvement. Fairways are greT shape and the greens are rolling true. Only draw back in the course is the dirt. Need to mark off those areas so u can't access them. Staff was great. I'll play this course again and the cost is superb.
Quick fun round
Besides the weather I ran into it was a fun round the course was in tough condition due to the tons of rain they received just days before and the day I was there. Seems like it would be a nice course in a few weeks. Great value and fun for any skill level not overly long course. Not sure what the POP is normally but I was one of 2 people on the course x-mad eve.
Slow play
The slow play and course conditions made it so I did not want to play this course again.
Getting better!
Love the staff. The course is getting better. I used to complain about to much mud on the course. I can say it has really improved. Will play here more often now.
gophers
It seems all the gophers have moved from Tres Rios to Southern Dunes. The crew had someone dealing with the critters but my concern would be not removing the dirt mounds ending up with a very bumpy golf course similar to Tres Rios.
Fun course
The course was in rough shape from the wet weather but the greens were receptive and puttable. If it had not been for the wet conditions I would have given it a four rating. It was well worth the money that I had to pay to play.
Cheap golf/Poor course
This is a cheap golf course. Nothing fancy, muddy in places, flat, uninteresting, easy course.
Get what you pay for !
The staff was very friendly. The course was in good condition.Players need to repair ball marks. There is a lot of bare ground / dirt off to the sides but not in the middle where the grass is.worth the tome and money.
Mud and Dirt
No grass. Course watering created a mud bath. Nothing but mud and dirt everywhere.
interesting setup (6,6,6) but lots of bare dirt instead of rough
