About
Southern Ridge Golf Club, formerly known as Bougainvillea Golf Club, offers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the valley. The South and Estrella Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the golf course. Southern Ridge is known for more than its views though, it has a unique layout that combines six par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s. The championship course plays to 6,751 yards. It offers a good amount of length for long hitters but it is still player-friendly enough for beginners thanks to generous fairways and large, undulating greens. Although the fairways are wide, don't be lulled into a sense of security. They are flanked with more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are enough challenges for an interesting round but it's not an overly difficult golf course.

Very good shape, and getting even better!
What you pay for
Honestly I didn't know what to expect from a course that has 3 par three's per side, 3 par four's per side and 3 par five's per side....but I was surprised.
The good....:
The fairways were in good shape
The greens were in good shape
The boxes were in good shape
The bad....:
The rough is very rough. Once out of the first cutting, you are on hard-pan and/or scrub ground
The ugly....:
Off the greens 5 feet you will find weeds and other plant life you would never find on up-scale courses.
The driving range.....just sucks.
The neighborhood....thus a lot of the vandalism on the course.
This course has a good layout. It's fairly easy and my group will be back. The people are nice/friendly and understand exactly what they have.
It wouldn't take much money to upgrade the parts of the course that are poor, but I certainly understand why they don't do it.
I'll also say that with the patio on the north side of the building, the drink after the round was great. There was a gently breeze, shade and a beer.

Good value
Played the course 10 times last year, twice this year. The greens were in good condition. The fairway was the best I/ve seen it. The pace was 3 h 50 m which I considered very good for a Sunday.
Overall this is a good full size course to play. A good value even worth the drive from Mesa.
There are new owners who were at the course making sure things go well.

Course Coming Around
This is the first time I played this course. It seemed to be a great value and reminded me of Sundance Golf Course about 3 years ago. They are working really hard to make this course very nice. I was impressed with the fairways and greens, they are coming in nicely and they are working on the outlying areas of the fairways.

Good Value
It was a good course if you stayed in the fairway. The traps were nice plenty of sand in them. Greens were in average shape and a little on the slow side. It was you typical $40 golf course. It's what I call a 6-6-6- Golf course. Very flat .

This course has some of the best greens we have played!
This is an old course that's seen a lot of play. Myself and my buddies have played it on and off for years. This years the greens are near perfect. Also everybody at the course and rest. are really nice people. Plan to play it again next week.

Good Value at this time of year
The course was in good condition on the tees, fairways and greens but the rough was being reworked and a lot of the areas were dirt. If you can keep your ball in the fairway, it has a nice variety of holes with a number of longer par 3s. The course has 6 of each par 3s. 4s and 5s.

Nice course, a little rough around the edges
Tee time at 10:45 and almost no one on the course! It was a cool morning but great for golf. If you stay on the fairways it is a nice course, once you are off the fairways the roughs are just that - lots of sand & rough grasses. Pace was very comfortable finished in a little over 4 hours as a two-some!

Work in progress
Greens-sand traps excellent.Really a lot of upgrades and really trying to rid themselves of past damage.Fun course to play -bunkered well and good par 5s.New sprinklers widening the fairways from past abuse.Good pace-god price and cater to your enjoyment.Would play again

Construction zone
Playing as a twosome, we teed off on Feb. 29, 2016 at 7:37am which was our tee time. We finished in 4.5hrs. We waited on every shot. No marshal to keep play moving. Not sure what is going on with this course. Appeared to be in construction mode as there were mounds of dirt on most holes but no grass on the mounds. As for the course conditions, they were mixed. Fairways and tee boxes hadn't been mowed in days. Bunkers were raked and played consistent. The greens were in good condition, as they putted consistent and true but on the slow side. The layout was very boring, with no interesting holes to speak of. Not a challenging course which is why I would recommend this as only a beginners course. We paid $39 (on golfnow) and this was a big mistake. I would not recommend this course to a true golfer. Also, two groups were playing music (rap and punk) which I don't have a problem with as long as it is kept to a reasonable sound level, which it wasn't.

A pearl in the rough
The layout, the fairways and the greens are very good. The only downside is what is in between the holes.
This course has undergone several management changes over the number of years that I have played here and, as a result, the word, neglected, kind of pops into mind. The new owners are trying hard to get this course back up to snuff. They are very motivated towards this. In the interim, it is work in progress.
They now offer a very good cuisine at very reasonable prices and, what is really different, stay open to 8 PM. This is really nice if one wants to have a nice dinner after golf.
You feel at home at this club and the green fees make it a good value when one looks at the green fees offered by other golf courses at this time of the year.
Bottom line here is "Kudos for the changes and keep it up.

In Best Shape
Have been playing this course for three years and this is the best it has been. Fairways are green, the greens will hold your shot and there is nice sand in the bunkers. Still a little too much water in places, but they are working on it. Also if you don't know a different layout with six par 3s, 4s, 5s. Enjoyable and glad the new owners are working on it.

Southern Ridge
Southern Ridge has continued to improve. was the 1st one out on Sunday Morning, Tee Box, Fairways and Greens all nice and green. Greens could use a cut, starting to get long. Gorgeous sunrise, nothing bad to say about this course. It was horrible a couple years ago. New owners have made it playable. Still could use some cleaning up , but then i'm sure the Tee fees $$$ would go up. All in all, nice basic course for the price

Would not play again
We were told this course had just been bought out and they had been working on it since the first of January 2016. Hopefully they can make a go of it but how it got a 3 star rating on Golf Now I have no idea.

Poor condition
The course itself was in tough shape for February. Bare spots on fairway as well as greens, Lots of dirt,
Driving range was closed. It too was in tough shape.
Most courses in Phoenix this time of year are in great shape. I would not play this course again.

Great value
I really like there are three par 5,4,3 on each nine. Lot,s of sand traps, only water on one hole. Enjoy your round.
