Toka Sticks Golf Club
About
Unlike many other courses in Phoenix, the course at the Toka Sticks Golf Club was not done in a traditional desert-style. It is known amongst locals for having very fast greens, many of which are elevated. The old Toka Sticks course was originally a nine-hole course built in 1945 but in addition to making it an 18-hole, championship course, it has had many renovations in the years since to make it a more challenging and interesting course. There are stately trees present on the course call for straight shots in order to reach the narrow fairways. Two lakes are situated on the course that create water hazards that come into play on sever holes. There are also several well-placed sand bunkers throughout. Toka Stick Golf Club also offers a short game area, a putting green and a driving range.

Greens issue
The course was nice, but the greens were not good and water was everywhere. Hopefully it dries out and recovers.
Greens were horrible shape! 4 some in front of us all thought they were big hitters and would wait until people were 350 yards up before hitting. 5.25 hour round of waiting! Marshall did all he could, but they were just slow. Paid $40 plus in August for this............should have been $25 tops. Staff was friendly though.
Thank you for expressing your experience at Toka Sticks GC. We will send your comment to the appropriate teams to fix these issues. Toka Sticks GC strives for creating a 5-star golfing experience. Thanks for playing at Toka Sticks GC and hopefully we can earn the other 3-stars.
Toka sticks
Lots of uprooted or damaged trees. Course was overwatered. All pins were yellow flags, should have had pin sheets.
We appreciate you taking the time to comment and let us know about your experience. Your 3-star rating draws concern for improvement. We are currently taking the steps to clean up the huge trees that are down on certain holes. Thank you for coming out and playing at Toka Sticks Golf Club. Hopefully, we can earn the other 2-stars on your next visit.
Kind of rough shape
But they are working on it. Quite a few of the big Eucalyptus are down, not just normal small stuff. Many greens had damage around the outer three feet. Certainly still playable.
Not bad
Not a bad course, especially for this time of year. Some standing water/puddles on the fairways here and there, and the greens were a bit bumpy, but a fairly simple layout and played in under 4 hours with a split foursome (two sets of tees). Bring your bug spray, though.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Your feedback helps us do better. We are looking into this issue and hope to resolve it promptly. Thank you for visiting Toka Sticks Golf Club. We hope you'll give us another try in the future.
Under water
Played this place for the first time and this course was either a disaster or warzone, was not informed about the conditions of the course, I have never played on course, where you had to pull your ball out of standing water so much in my life, the greens were terrible period, the only great thing was the pace of play under 3 hours. Not worth the money is all I can say, I am sure I could of got a rain check, but I wanted to play golf, they should of informed us of the course conditions.
We appreciate the time you took to submit your comment and rating. Our maintenance team is still working on the clean up of the course. Yes, it was a war zone and very unexpected. We do send out warning emails in the morning in cases like this. We may not have the correct or no email under your profile and we appolozice for the misscommunication.
Windstorm took its toll
Because of the previous nights heavy windstorm everything about this review will be skewed. Many fallen trees , though none blocking okay and tree limbs dotted the course. Play was backed up an hour as the grounds crew valiantly got the course ready. Kudos to them for that. Pace of play was excruciating slow and the heat didn't help. However it still was a 4 hour round and the course was very green and in good shape considering the weather events. As with most courses the bunkers are hard and dried out. The beverage girl was all over, passed me many times so that was a good sign. I will play here again, I'll just be more judicious about the time I play a this is a 3:15-3:30 hour course and is very playable for a high handicapper, like myself.
Thank you for taking the time to comment and rate the course. Yes, it was a rough weekend out there and we are currently still cleaning up the debris. We hope you come back in the future when course conditions are at it's best.
Greens are in decent condition for this time of the year. Pace of play was excellent. Finish just under 4 hours
We would love to hear more about your 4-star experience on our course. Please tell us what we can do to earn that last star, and thanks for golfing at Toka Sticks Golf Club!
The course could benefit better managment
Arrived early at 0930 only to be told they were out of practice balls for range. Chipping green was a big puddle where it appeared a sprinkler had been on it for hours. Fairways had big areas that appeared to have chunks of turf just thrown onto bare areas and were dying. Pace of play extremely slow. Nice course close to home. Probably could use different management.
Thank you for taking the time to comment and rate the course. We fixed the range ball issue by purchasing a new range picking vehicle. Maintenance was currently doing a summer project of redoing certain areas on the course to prep for our overseeding process. We hope you come back and play in the future to notice the change.
Good course
Solid course no big issues of any kind. Pace of play is fast ranger asked us to push even though we finished in just over 3 hours think times are just a little close for this course. Beautiful course in comparison to most in east valley so great bang for your buck, well maintained.
Women's Bathroom Still an Issue
Overall good experience, tho my wife complains regularly about the women's bathroom at the clubhouse. At least all the fixtures worked today, but the bathroom was dirty...this was before an early morning round. Field bathrooms are only fit for men.
Course is in good shape
The course is in good shape with only a few areas the are working on. I was disappointed that there is no drinking water on the course with the temperature at 105 degrees at 10:30 this morning. I was told this is due to COVID-19, I guess you won’t get COVID-19 but you could have heat stroke.
Putting in a Pasture
Arrived for our early morning tee time and took some putts on the practice green. We noticed how slow they were and asked if the course greens were the same. Response was that they were recently punched and most likely would be a little rough. If that was the only problem we could understand, but as we went through the round we could see that there wasn't any regular maintenance done. The greens were not even blown off as palm shrouds and other debris was all over the surface. Tee boxes were pock marked and trash cans were over flowing. It was quite obvious that not even the most basic maintenance had been done on the course. I am sure the course will bounce back, but very disappointed that full book was paid for conditions so deplorable.
Good beginner course
First time playing this course... was a lot of straight holes with trees down the side. Only a couple holes where water was in play but I definitely rate it as a great option for beginners. More experienced players and players looking for a challenge might not find it as good.
Good course for the money
The course is still in very good condition. Pace of play was perfect. A slower 2 some let my wife and I play thru. Staff was great as always. Cart girl can by many times during the round and she was very friendly. Thanks we will be back soon.
Great course conditions for this time of year
Starter got us off right on time and even though we waited on the majority of tee boxes to hit, the round was still played at a very good pace. All areas of the course were in the best condition of any course we have played in the last few weeks. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in very nice condition with only a very few dry spots. Enjoyable early round.
It’ll Do
Most holes are all the same, lots of par 4’s with the same feel/layout. For $45 it was fine but still expected a little more. Most greens had lots of dead spots around edges. No outside drinks allowed. Pace of play was fast, our group of four let the people behind us ply through.
Thank you for taking the time to express your golf experience with us. Unfortunately, our course has been getting more rain than we can handle and our drainage system is at full capacity. We are hoping to get more sun than rain in the next couple of weeks. We are currently repairing the greens from gopher damage by placing new sod in those problem areas. Please visit us in the future so that we can earn the extra 3 stars.
