Toka Sticks Golf Club
About
Unlike many other courses in Phoenix, the course at the Toka Sticks Golf Club was not done in a traditional desert-style. It is known amongst locals for having very fast greens, many of which are elevated. The old Toka Sticks course was originally a nine-hole course built in 1945 but in addition to making it an 18-hole, championship course, it has had many renovations in the years since to make it a more challenging and interesting course. There are stately trees present on the course call for straight shots in order to reach the narrow fairways. Two lakes are situated on the course that create water hazards that come into play on sever holes. There are also several well-placed sand bunkers throughout. Toka Stick Golf Club also offers a short game area, a putting green and a driving range.

Great value
The turf here was in excellent shape compared to competing courses like Dobson or Kenny Mac. Lots of grass, plenty of sand in the bunkers, we'll be back often this summer. Wish they offered a walking rate though.
It’s been better
Used to play here regularly until management made it difficult to play as a league, wanted payment in advance. First play in six months found us happy to be there but they were plugging already and the course seemed a mess. And they still seem priced high, no twilight rates all winter. The staff was great from carts and starters to pro shop to beverage cart. A single craft beer was $6 plus a buck tip from the cart..Off to Barios for beer afterwards, many good draft beers.
The course what's great and had wonderful features
I love to course except a couple of greens we're kind of bad but overall I give it a nine and a half out of 10 and I would definitely play there again
Great for the price
Good course for the money. Great place for high handy-caps, difficult to miss grass.
Slow Pace of Play
Foursome in front of us was extremely slow. Most of the foursome hit 2-3 shots on the tee boxes each. By the time we got to 11th hole foursome in front of them was 2-3 holes ahead. No Ranger on Course to speed up play.
Terrible attention
5 and 1/2 hours to play a round. Starting at 1245 I would see a 4 1/2 round but over 5. FLAT OUT TERRIBLE. AND I THOUGHT JOHNSON RANCH WAS BAD. This was right behind. 3 groups on all par 3’s no Marshall will drop down to the bottom of the list for weekend rounds now.
old basic course
First time player, no maps, directions to holes not that good, No course distance markings. Typical older AZ course, flat, and eculuptus trees. Several well bunkered holes. Not much sand in bunkers. Greens browning out some but roll pretty good, and several side sloping greens with a bit of challenge. Many area where water sprinklers not functioning properly and water accumulated but not much in play. Several dead palms detract from the course. Not a lot of character to course. A bit pricey for the quality of the course. $20 less on the greens fees would have been more reasonable rate for what you get.
Slow play, left after 9
I can't play this slow. Left after 9, makes for an expensive 9 holes. Troon met looks nice around the clubhouse but Troon staff not very friendly. Starter and cart staff are great. AZ golf- shove them out on the course and good luck on the death march on the course.
Good course for the money
I have played Toka Sticks many times over the years and it's always in good shape. This week it's in great shape. The people here are some the friendliest. They teamed me up with another single and we played 18 in 3 hrs. 40 mins. Super day. Thanks Toka Sticks I'll be back.
Great Shape
My golf buddy and I had not played this course in several years so decided to try again. Much to our surprise, course was in outstanding condition tee to green. The layout is interesting and fairly challenging, with many fairways lined with trees so lots of areas to get into trouble. Finished in around 4 1/2 hours on a Saturday afternoon. The only real issue we had was having to wait for a cart until 10 minutes before teeing off, but not a big issue. We'll be back.
