Nice layout
Course needs attention, has small greens that are very hard. Nice layout, not many yard markers. Wide open fairways and small greens. Course has potential, would not pay more than 35 too play. Take plenty of water with u, none on course!
Great weekend Course
Vistal is a great weekend course. Decent pace of play, good food and drink, and always on beautiful scenery.
Always enjoy this course
Great weather! Great prices! Not always a good score!
Fun, challenging, beautiful views, but disappointed :(
Sprinklers seem to come on just before every hole we played. Vistal is a challenge as is but the wet grass made it like hitting off ice cream! Fairways are tight!! Being heavily pierced and tattooed, I'm used to the staff being dismissive so that was nothing new. Overall, could be a great course.
Could be a real gem.
Fantastic layout in a great setting. Greens had been seeded so were a bit rough. Fairway grass was thin and brown in spots. With a bit of water and some tlc this could be a fantastic golf course. Still for the price it was great.
greens were ok. they had some kind maintenance done to them, some kind of lines all over them. fairways were ok in most parts.
Great views of city from upper tees! A little more maintenance and would be great course. Been going there for years. Some changes but fairways are usually the same mediocre condition. Some approach shots are challenging and fun. Some of the new tee boxes look fun! Kind of a slow round for a Tues.
I liked it, wife didn't
I really enjoyed the course, found the layout was open and accommodating for my level of play. Staff was friendly. The course conditions were a little rough and it would have been nice to have softer sand to play out of, but overall a good round
very user friendly
We love this course, the staff is the best!! They are always courteous and friendly and remember you. Best in the valley for customer service and caring. They are great
If you can get it for les than 25 it's a fair price.
A diamond in the rough!! I know it's a bit of the regular path. But if you can find it. It's well worth it. The pace is good and the staff are great! Will make another trip. I played 8 courses and this was the best!!
Challenges await all skill levels, choose your tee box carefully for your skill level.
Course was in good shape, except for some bunkers, which I believe are being removed, no signage indicating ground under repair.
Good value,Good condition,Good golf,--must try.
Well worth golfing --probably the best condition the fareways have been in years .Greens run true .Staff is some of the freindliness and helpfull you,ll meet .
Excellent value!
I have to say it is probably the best value in Phoenix for budget players! Could use some attention, but it's a pretty fun course. Something that is a bit annoying about this course is that a lot of novice players play here and their are 4 holes lined up paralell with each other and a lot of people seem to end up spending time on the wrong fairway.
good greens, very scenic
the course had not been overseeded, not much grass in the fairways, the greens were in good shape. Very scenic, right along the edge of South mountain, lots of wildlife.
Good for the money
The course was in average shape. Tee boxes for the most part were in good to great condition. Greens were in GREAT condition. Fairways were dead so you got a lot of roll.
greens were sanded and no sand in bunkers
A fun course although the pace of play was near 5.5 hrs. There are a few holes on the back side that are bunched up on top of each other. I was nearly hit 3 times from errant tee shots.
Dinky course, painted grass
Playing golf in winter should be fun. But this course is all painted green on the summer grass. I guess they do not overseed for winter. All the bunkers are gone, course is becoming easy.
Round of play took lose to 5 hours as they cannot get the slow playing group to keep up with their timing.
some of the greens are missing grass and is bumpy. Overall not fun to play here and would avoid in future.
nice course
I played this course on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013. I really enjoyed my round and the course. I don't understand the painted fairways. The bunkers were not consistent, some had plenty of fluffy sand and getting out was a breeze, other bunkers had a very thin layer of sand before hitting hardpan dirt. I will come back to AZ this summer and want to come back and try the course again.
Painted grass
Although I realized from previous round they don't overseed, it appears that they have painted the fairways to make it look green. If you're ready for that, course is o.k. to play and price is right.
Great staff, course terrible
Showed up to the course, staff was great and even gave us some pointers on the course. The view of the city is amazing from some of the holes, as well as being right up against the North side of South Mountain. Other than the spray painted fairways (yes, they spray paint the fairways because of all the dead grass) the grass around the greens is plush and how it should be for the whole course.
I was really frustrated after we finished 9 though. The golf attendants had let a 4-some go ahead of us and start on 10 holding us back and making it so we couldn't finish our full 18-hole round. The course design I would say is terrible as some of the holes overlap and there aren't many signs telling people where to go for the next hole. This caused another group to come in front of us and played hole 13 instead of 7, which really frustrated us all.
My tips for the course and staff, there need to be clear signs directing golfers where to go for the next hole. Since a lot of the holes are close together, players get confused on where they SHOULD be. Some more advice, invest in some fertilizer and make the grass green. I would golf here again and let my friends know about this course, but not for $38. My top price for this course would be $25 twilight, $35-$38 for morning.
This course has a great layout with with four saets of tees to challange all types of player.
This course should be great when the dormant bermuda grass
comes back. There are great views of Phoenix and South Mountain. This was the first time I played Vistal and I will play here again.
