About
Located just south of Grand Avenue in Sun City, Sun City North Golf Course's trademarks are the doglegs and large trees that are present throughout the course. It has many other challenges to offer including plush, elevated greens and numerous sand bunkers. Placid ponds also create water hazards that come into play on two holes. Don't Believe the Bad Reviews...Nice Course
I think there are some haters that don't like the changes to this golf course that are posting unfair reviews out there. This is a very nice course...a little rough in some places and the greens WERE hard due to the renovations. But this is not the TPC or Troon. Nice, fair, fun and challenging public course. Greens really fast, but putted true...just had to adjust your game. I actually shot one of my better scores this season. Great value for $25...and a quick, sub 4 hour 18 holes.
Don't waste your money
i thought for the price I was lucky. It's impossible to get on this course during peak times as they buy up the Golfnow times and resell them to the locals. When I did get to play, the fairways were not mowed, and the greens had this sand on them that made landing on them impossible. There were tufts of grass growing on them as well. It was terrible and I wil NEVER play there again. I am sure they will try to justify the conditions but that should have been done prior to booking anyone. And all I he heard was how great this course was since the renovation. BULL!
Fastest greens i have ever seen
The greens were hard as a brick and as fast as putting on tile. its a fun layout but needs some work and water. bring a sand wedge with as much bounce as you can find, the new sand is too soft and deep. I will try it again later in the summer.
Don't waste your money
This course has very little grass anywhere. This includes the greens. I don't know why this is, perhaps lack of water? This makes playing it a bad experience.
very nice course
the greens will be excellent when they mature. they are grainy and a little bumpy right now. course is very playable and well maintained, it just needs time to mature from the renovations.
horrible greens
worst greens i've ever seen. all 18 of them. hard as rock, no actually grass it was just bumpy clay. super fast because of it. the surrounding ground was also very hard, no true "rough" anywhere, but the green was extremely bad. not fun.
sand traps were excellent though, soft well kept sand.
Not bad
This is your typical Sun City Course. The course wasn't as bad as I had heard and read. Greens are pretty hard and fast but not unplayable. If you can play this course for around $30 its worth it.
55 Years Old & Being Refurbished
Sun City North, upon first look, may be showing its age, but new ownership is attempting to revitalize this course originally constructed in 1960. The fairways are wide open and bonuses are given on the first, seventh and ninth holes [if you hit a shot into the newly renovated desert areas you get a free drop]. The only drawback to the course are the greens which are essentially concrete [figuratively, not literally]. I was told by a local player that steps are being taken to correct this situation [deep watering to promote root growth], but it will be at least a year before the greens "soften up." So, if your "green game" is hard-charging, expect a plethora of three putt attempts. Nevertheless, the course is challenging but does allow the Intermediate golfer, like myself, a good chance to break 90!
Poor Greens
I went here today for the first time. I read many reviews on the poor green conditions and after playing, I have to agree with them. The greens were like glass, almost non of my shots stuck on the green like they do on a normal course. Also, the staff weren't very friendly. The pace was horrible, no marshals to keep people moving. The staff employee calling out names to tee up didn't know what he was doing and called the same group numerous times, long after that group had teed off. The course itself is in good condition though. I would not recommend this course to my friends till the greens improve.
Crowded course
Greens at North are very hard because the overseed did not take effect. Bunkers are new and sandy. Pace of play is slow and there are no rangers to handle the problem. Otherwise, the course redesign works and offers some challenges. Enjoy.
Low end course
Recommend for beginner golfers... Greens in very poor shape. Course has potential but it will take a few years for the course make-over to yield results...
Setbacks since re-opening
Played it right after it had re-opened, appeared to be in solid shape for being rather immature. This visit revealed some setbacks to the course blossoming into a solid course. This course sees a lot of traffic and needs some time to mature after re-opening. I really hope they are able to get the greens into shape. Started out on back, 10th hole, hit a 56 into the green....no ballmark? Solid, very firm, did not hold many shots. Putting was okay, fast faster fastest, but seeing pitches and chips skid then take-off was a little ridiculous. Short course, should move faster than it did, decent layout, but needs time to get into shape. Good value, but wait a year?
This course is not good.
Time tees backed up due to slow play and fivesomes and slow walkers. Fairways not very good and greens painted.
Hard and fast
The course was in good shape except the greens were very hard. Had to lad short of the greens to keep even the short irons from bounding off the back of them
Did not appreciate starter making it a 5-some
The fairways were okay; the greens were like cement. I did not appreciate the starter put in an additional person in our foursome so that was a fivesome. It slowed things up, particularly with two foursomes in front of us and a 4-some behind us.
Rain held off, almost!
Although we did get a bit wet at the end of our round, it was very enjoyable for my wife and I. We were paired up with another couple and they were enjoyable to play a round with. We quit after the seventeenth due to the rain, but overall it was a very good golf outing.
sun city north
this course was recently reworked and is now one of the vary best bunkered courses in the area.
In good shape
This was the first time my husband and I played this course. We were anxious to play because it was closed last year for rehab and it's never been on GolfNow before. We found it to be a tad dry and the grass on the fairways was really short. The greens were good.
For the money, we enjoyed it and will probably play again.
Interesting layout
I enjoyed the golf course. Interesting variety. Not real difficult but challenging. The city needs to water the fairways and greens, very hard but doable.
