The Sun City South Golf Course is normally a private club but during the summer months, public play is allowed. The course has a traditional layout with four sets of teeboxes for a variety of different golfing options, which allow golfers to work on a range of different handicaps. The golf course has a fair share of challenges with several sand bunkers and plenty of trees scattered throughout. There are also out-of-bounds stakes providing more difficulty. Water hazards come into play on some holes as well. The Sun City South Golf Course facility has a putting green and chipping area for golfers to use in addition to the course.

Enjoyable golf course

I really enjoyed Sun City South. It is evident that it was remodeled in the last few years and I like what they did. The layout is fairly straightforward but the new bunkering really makes you think off the tee. The greens are in excellent shape. Tees and fairways were also in good shape. A fun golf course to play. Only thing I don't like is allowing 5somes to play especially when the course is busy. Luckily they quit after 9 so it was smooth sailing on the back nine.

Great value

Course was in good condition. Recently had a lot of rain making the course a bit lush for this time of year. Pace was a bit slow but had a good experience.

Allowing Groups of 5 Now from Golfnow

This course has always given the members the option to add a 5th person. These folks typical know one another and pace of play is good. Someone new over there "Chris?" has added the option for golfnow guest to be booked onto the course as an added 5some. This is bad for the guest and bad for the folks who already had a foursome.

It's a shame they are doing this. I use to love this course.

GOLF IN SUN CITY

Typical older Sun City course. Nothing bad to say. About what I expected. Smooth sailing in calm waters. Good price on Golf Now Hot Deals so I decided to play. Some of the other course are priced too high this time of year.

Nice Course

Course was in good shape, except greens were bumpy and divoted from other players not repairing divots. Course play was smooth until the 15th hole when the twosome and me, a single had to wait for a foresome ahead whom were playing very slow. When I got to the 16th hole the twosome ahead of me quit. I hit my tee shot, but play was so slow, I picked up my ball and raced to 17, ahead of the foresome whom had not reached the 16th green. I teed off and played 17 and 18. Overall I had a nice day and the course is more challenging if played from the black tee boxes. Will play again and recommend this as a nice course for others to play.

Standard Issue Sun City Course

Sun City South could easily be confused with Sun City _________________ [fill in the blank]. It is the same style course and layout as a half dozen other Sun City courses. The reality is they are all in pretty good shape and all offer an adequate golf experience for the price. You can usually get on these courses for under $30 and that is a fair price for what you get. Because they out price the Scottsdale courses by a wide margin, it is a certainty that I will play this course again.

Worst Golf Experience & Customer Service Ever Witnessed

Let me start out by saying that this is my first golf course review and it was so bad I had to write this. Also, the course is in descent shape and what you would expect for this time a year in AZ....

I booked a 4:22pm tee time on Golf Now at this course at about 12:00pm earlier in the day. My playing partner and I got to the course early at about 3:50pm. We went into the pro shop and checked in with no problem. After we paid the gentleman working the front desk, he thanked us for coming out, told us to have fun and to leave the cart by the cart barn when where thru. It was about 4:00 pm at this time & we headed straight to the first tee box as there was nobody else in front us. I tee'd my ball up and was getting ready to hit my shot when I see the cart attendant driving up. He was headed towards our cart which my partner was still standing by grabbing his club. I didn't think much of it and proceeded to get ready to hit my shot. The next thing I know this guy starts yelling at my partner near our cart about 15 feet away from me. I'm not exaggerating when I say yelling either. This guy was acting as if we had just parked out cart on the 18th green. I heard him yell that we should not have been able to book a 4:22pm tee time. He also said that he "already put a call to the director of golf" as if we had done something illegal by booking the tee time online. I also believe he thought that we were going to leave without playing because of his threat. I was still in shock at how angry this guy was at us for booking a tee time online. I asked him what the problem was and he repeated that we should not have been able to book a 4:22pm tee time because he had to stay until the last cart was in the barn. I told him that this really was not our issue because the tee time was on Golf Now for us to book and that he should take his issue up with his boss. He said he didn't care and basically we didn't matter because we bought a discounted $20 tee time online. In reality, 75% of the courses in my area average $20 anytime of day this time of year. I questioned his lack of customer service and again he replied that he didn't care. He would have rather had gone home early than the course collecting our $50.00 in green fees. That's what this disrespect and complete lack of customer service was about. This cart attendant was going to leave at 5:00 until we showed up for our tee time and ruined his plans. First off, this was the last guy that should have had anything to say to us about anything other than ask if our cart was charged up. If there was any sort of issue with our tee time, it should have been addressed in the pro shop when we paid. Obviously, the only guy that had an issue with us playing was the cart guy that had to stay until our cart was back. I told him I would be letting his boss know about this incident and he chuckled and repeated again that he didn't care. Finally after about 10 minutes of being yelled at and arguing with this guy, I told him to go away and he did. He then let us know that he would be driving out in his cart to get us at 7:00 sharp if we didn't have the cart back. At this point I walked back to my ball that was still tee'd up. I was so amped up from arguing with this guy that I was shaking as I stood over my ball. I hit my tee shot and we were off. We both could not believe what we had just gone thru for making a tee time and playing golf. We got thru the 9th hole in about an hour and 10 minutes and crossed the street to the 10th hole. I hit my tee shot and my playing partner followed. As we walked back to our cart we see the cart guy driving over to us from across the street holding a piece of paper. It was my Golf Now email confirmation that he had printed out, He brought it over and pointed to the bottom where in small print it said "tee times booked after 3:00pm were for 9 holes". He then proceeded to say that we probably did not see that on Golf Now and that we could continue playing since he had to be there until 7 anyway. My partner and I opted to go pick up our balls and end the worst golf experience we've had as it was obvious the cart wanted us to go since he took time to pull up and print out the Golf Now confirmation sheet and drove it across the street to point it out to us that our tee time was for 9 holes only( if I had seen that to begin with, I would not have booked a tee time at this course) . Also, this guy had no idea (nor did we)that the time was only for 9 holes when he decided to yell at us on the first tee. He must of went in after we tee'd off and pulled up the confirmation. Another confusing part of this story is my receipt from the pro shop says that I paid for 18 holes and there are signs posted that say the carts don't need to be in until 7:00pm. I play all over the valley and I will say that when you play at any of the Sun City, Sun City West, or Sun City Grand courses, a certain degree of crankiness is expected but this guy was so far out of line it's unbelievable. I have to believe that this guy could either care less if he has this job or the course is ok with this type of behavior or else this harassment would have never taken place. I still can't believe this guy.... Unreal

Great track for any skill level

Golf course was wide open off the tee which makes it fun for any level of golfer.

The greens we're perfect condition and not to fast.

Couple tough holes but over all . Of the best prices on hot deals you can't beat the track for the price not to mentiin the quality of the golf course.

They get solid 4 stars and would have gotten a 5 if the had a little more options in the snack bar.

Nothing to Write Home About

I was expecting more for course that has been around for at least 50 years. I expected mature landscaping, large , shady trees and interesting and challenging holes. What I got was plain Jane, every hole just about the same. Flat, flat flat straight, a little dog leg this way then that. Too much the same bunker placement, surround the the green and good luck. I have played other SunCity courses that were much more enjoyable. I guess you have to play this one to appreciate the others more. One staffer was very personable, the other one had been sucking lemons all day, it seemed. Try Another One.

We took advantage of a Hot deal on GN.com and we had fun. It is great for the beginner or someone who wants to practice with their woods. Wide open fairways makes it hard to miss. Fast greens. Not too interesting. Some water comes into play. Nice people.

Relaxing day at the course

Course is very golf friendly. Fairways average width, but if you miss fairway getting out of rough isn't very difficult. Where the course becomes difficult are the greens, lots of undulation and are very firm.
