Shalimar Golf Club is a nine-hole golf course in Tempe. The course is best for beginners but it has enough challenges in store to make it a great option for more advanced players who want a quick round. The layout is comprised of three par 3s and six par 4s. It weaves through a smattering of mature trees and across gently rolling hills. The small greens can be quite tricky, especially since there are strategically placed bunkers lurking along some. Water hazards come into play on a few holes, including the 155-yard fifth, which is one of the golf course's toughest. You'll have to pull off a carry over the area's biggest lake to a heavily bunkered, narrow green. Shalimar Golf Club's ninth hole is the most well known though, mainly for the island green. In addition to the water, there are also four bunkers surrounding the green.

Pace of play was poor, almost 3 hours for very short hole, non players looking for golf balls on the course including a 7some. This course requires a ranger.

The Worse It Is Maintained, the Higher Greens Fees Get
I should have know better than to play Shalimar again, but it was my first round in over a year and a friend suggested we play Shalimar. About 5-6 years ago, they started really jacking their rates and, at the same time, really letting the course go to the dogs. They no longer even offer a free second round (same day) if there is an opening on the tee when you finish. They now charge very nearly as much as the regulation 18-hole courses in the area - course which are MUCHG better maintained. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Very slow play
play was extremely slow with the foursome in front of us playing 2-3 balls each on every hole. This is worst condition I have seen this course in.

Challenging course with great greens

a good day
Shalimar is a great course, as long as you have realistic expectations; it's not sculpted and groomed and post-card perfect. It's not trying to impress you. It's just a simple course that gives you a nice 9 holes to enjoy with friends and strangers. It is nicely tucked away off the main street and has mature landscaping. The most challenging thing is that the greens are tiny: most of them are around 3,000 sq feet or less, so your ability to manage your approach is crucial. If you just want to play and aren't consumed with having amenities, this is a great value.

Not going to Shalimar anymore
We had a 745 booked for 4/7/2021, it was also ladies day so my partner and I got bounced to the 5th hole played for an hour and only made it back to hole 1. We then sat at hole 1 for thirty minutes waiting for the hole to clear and it never did. They were way over booked with walkers and we received no notice or help in anyway.
