Sunridge Golf Club
About
Located justhalf-hour drive from both Lake Tahoe and Reno, Sunridge Golf Club features monster holes and mammoth lakes. The 669-yards par 5 11th - the longest hole in the scenic High Sierras region and then some - draws your attention as soon as you look at the scorecard. But the 26 acres of water on the golf course will probably provide more challenge and thrills.
There's also a hole with a 300-foot drop from the tee to the fairway (No. 14), a tiny par 3 19th bet-decider hole and a ton of driveable par 4s that almost beg for you to go for it. As a bonus, Sunridge Golf Club's green fees wow many vacationers used to Tahoe pricing.

Nice course. Staff not so much.
Course was in good condition for the winter. Both carts in our group could not make the round. Staff seemed to resent the fact that we had booked on golfnow. Even though there was not another person on the course made us wait for our exact tee time. Charged us extra cart fee because we only had a three some and was told the golf now rate was only for double riders. The cart fee was more than the round. Certainly did not make us feel wanted or like coming back. But will go back for the course. Cant wait to play it in the spring when it gets green. Im a single digit handicap. I found the course challenging but fair.
Fun and challenging
I played 18 holes with my wife. The weather was good in the beginning, but a little strong wind later. The course condition was very good. We enjoyed the rounding. As a beginner my wife had finished her first time of full 18 courses. I enjoyed the rounding very much. If I were near the area I should come back to play, but I am away about 4 or 5 hours driving from there.
I recommend this course to those who want to enjoy golfing.
Good views of Carson valley
Fun course to play. Beginners might have to go swimming for a few balls tho
Sunridge 11/7/42014
This was the first time playing. Navigation around the course is easy as everything is well marked. Distance from green to next tee, and steepness of hillsides make this a riding only course.
Greens were in good shape, but some fairways were a little patchy. Greens were generally very large, making them easier to hit, but leaving very lengthy putts. Many were multi-level greens.
Lots of water-which shouldn't have been in play if I could hit the ball straight.
Sad times
I first played this course about twelve years ago, after it first opened. After the downturn, the course fell on hard times, losing membership and enthusiasm from old staff. Recently, new ownership has made efforts to recover areas of the course lost to environmental issues and agronomy that perhaps was overly enthusiastic in the original planing and course layout. One thing that was really a score killer was poorly marked water hazards. The hazards are in the low lying river bottom, and were originally marked with red stakes, which let players see the edges of the problems, but over time these have been lost or misplaced, leading to disappointment when one realizes a good shot is now swimming and unplayable. However, I am hopeful that efforts by new management will pay dividends in the near future, restoring a gem of a course that is In search of its mojo
Will get better!
Tees, fairways, and greens in good shape. Pin placements were quite challenging, especially for the mid to high handicapper.
The 14th hole was destroyed by a flash flood and has yet to be rebuilt. A "19th" hole at the end makes up for it.
Summary: Take lots of balls. This is pretty much a straight hitter's course, with a bit of target golf thrown in. Might as well tee up another one after errant shots!
Not a cookie cutter course
The weather was around mid 80's an sunny. When you see a big coyotte from the first tee you know you are going to have a good day. Greens had been punched at least 2 weeks prior. The course was in good shape mostly. Some of the course was still dealing with an early season that had damaged some spots on the back 9. This place is well worth the adventure!
Hit straight
Narrow fairways, lots of water, need to carry ball over brush, some very nice high elevation tee boxes
Narrow fairways and water
Course is laid out with very few holes beside each other so accurate shots are needed on lots of the holes. Very good use of slopes on the course.
Fun Course with Dramatic Elevation Changes
I was pleasantly surprised while playing Sunridge. For a Western course there were several water hazards. More than I am used to seeing playing in Nevada and Utah. The Pro Shop provides a complimentary course guide which was invaluable with no local course knowledge. Even with Swing by Swing course app on my phone the course guide proved a great asset. The course was in reasonable shape even w/the #14th Hole closed due to mud slide damage on a dramatically elevated hole. There were plenty of other holes that changed elevation that it wasn't a disappointment. It was explained in the Pro Shop that this hole was closed and that an extra hole was available to make up for the closure of #14. This is a course you will definitely play better the second time around. All in all, for the Golf Now rate, this course is well worth exploring.
Sunridge
Course was in good condition, except for sand traps, they are terrible, hole 14 was under construction could not play it, extremely difficult to play with elevation changes.
sneaky tough
There is a reason the slope rating is so high. A good amount of target golf here with some greens extremely well protected by water/bunkers/hazard areas. Fairways not perfect but overall good. Greens fair speed. Dramatic elevation changes. One hole (14) was taken out of play by mudslide and another damaged by the same but they did have a 19th hole on the course so still played 18. Very friendly staff and gave me and buddy replay for $20!
Unique and Fun
We knew going in that this course would not be anything like what we usually play. We had a blast. Only disappointment was not being able to play hole #14, would've liked to experience that, but Mother Nature had her way before we got there.
Staff is friendly
We had great weather! Friendly staff.
The one bummer was I went onto golf now to purchase for 3 people and only selected 1 person, it would not allow me to amend it.....i wound up having to order a 2nd deal so I was charged 2 service charges. Not the courses fault, but definitely not easy to fix thru golf.now.
Too Difficult
The course was in good shape and a good value for the money. The only drawback was the difficulty of the front nine. All three golfers in the group are around a 20 handicap and over 65 years of age. Hence we are not as long as we used to be or, sadly not as accurate either. The tightness of the front nine holes was just too much for us.
On the other hand, the back nine, with it's tremendous elevation changes seemed to play much easier.
Overall, through no fault of the course or the staff, it was just too demanding for our skill level.
I would recommend the course to 15 and under handicappers. Higher handicappers will struggle.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful which made a tough day on the course more bearable.
Great fun course
Course is hard for average golfers. In great shape and a lot of fun.
Fun coarse
fun to play and very challenging to play. Has great views and lots of wildlife. Due to severe elevation changes and length of coarse it would be very very difficult to walk this coarse. but we recommend this coarse to all our friends.
Sunridge Golf has change dramatically
The course is in great shape. The last time I played the course it was so bad that the 18th fairway barely had any grass left on it. There must be new owners at this course, the condition of the course has changed 110% for the good. The holes on this course have character. They are fun to play!!!
Linx Style Golf
It was awesome, it was raining all day and they kept the course open, it felt like the british open. the course is in great shape for the most part just the 14th hole is shut down, and on the green there was some plants or some kind of something but was still a great corse to golf. i will be back again, a few times!
