About
Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

Beautiful Course
The course layout is great and the conditions were great. Hole 17 is a beauty with a view of the lake.
too wet...
We don't know if it rained the previous night or you watered on top of the rain, but the course was really wet. Fairways good, greens very nice, but everything else was kinda of tough. It was the first time playing there this yr, would like to play a lot more, but we both work part time in the mornings so we usually play around 12:30 -1pm, but we've noticed that you don't run specials often in the afternoons. Your rate is $55 in the afternoons. I have family n friends coming soon, we plan on playing there. THANKS.

Washoe Valley Winds
Course in great shape and the cost through Golf Pass made it easy to enjoy a round with my family. Wind in the afternoon did affect the game but we were smiling at the 19th hole and the bartender was enjoyable to talk with.

Challenging with greens that have lots off character. Really nice course

well all I can say is greens were nice and fairways too staff very nice got out no delay and a little cooler than in reno I like that
Fun! Challenging course.
This is a long course from the whites the handicap and the slope. Had lots of fun and enjoyed the fact that it wasn't windy. It was hot but that's the weather right now.
Nice set up
Course is in good shape. Great layout. Challenging for new golfers with a fair amount of water and rough, but fun. I played twilight during the week so no pace of play issues.
Nevada Gem
We arrived a bit early for our tee time (and early in the morning) but the staff members were friendly, on their game and very accommodating. They let us know there were tee times available if we wanted to avoid a small tournament so we jumped on it. Course was in very nice condition overall with a few issues here and there. Nevertheless, the grounds crew was working hard to get everything in great shape. Overall very pleased and would gladly play the course again.
Interesting Round
Course was in great condition. Winds had the greens dried out so balls were not holding even if hit accurately. This caused a lot of three puts in our foursome. Not great on the scorecard.
Disappointed
I received a recommendation to play this course from a fellow golfer, so I was looking forward to playing it. Unfortunately, the course had been watered so heavily that it was soggy in many areas and fairways provided almost no rollout. Additionally, the distances between the cart paths and the greens were sometimes 50 yards or more. As a twosome, my wife and I expected to wait a little, but it turned out to be10 or 15 minutes on every tee. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience and we won't be back.
Staff
Staff was very friendly. They had several big groups in the course at the same time and everything was extremely smooth. Great experience!
