About
Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

Such a surprise!

A bit of a challenge.
Retired couple, both just intermediate golfers. Course is really well maintained and beautiful views. A real challenge for us but the views were worth it.
Fast greens, wet areas
This is one of the best public courses in the region. Today the greens were really fast. There are some very wet areas in some fairways and rough areas, so be careful where you drive your cart so you don't get stuck in the mud. As usual, the wind picked up in the afternoon, but it wasn't as strong as I've seen it before. We enjoyed our round.
Great course. In excellent shape for this late in the year. Pace of play was a little slow but there was a group of 11 foursome for a corporate event in front of us and there was a 30 minute frost delay. So all in all a great day.
Great course layout and condition
Had a great round but it was slow. Started at 1230 a 30 mins later than tee time. A 5.30 round. Our first time playing the course but we will return.
Monday to Enjoy Outdoors
The course setting is beautiful with the Sierra Mountains as a backdrop to some of the holes. It has some long and challenging holes especially when the wind picks up but you can be rewarded with the best views of northern Nevada within Washoe Valley. Only thing we did not like were the droppings from the Canadian geese.
A course well kept
I thoroughly enjoyed my first time on this course. My friends will definitely enjoy how well kept it is and that it comes with beautiful mountain views of the Sierra.

No cart service the day we played

In subdivision with multi million dollar homes
Might come back
Course was in great shape considering there was a fire close by a month ago. Was Slow playing. No cart person considering they had a full course. Will think about next time getting an earlier start time.
5 1/2 hrs to play is to long
6 hour round
Love this course, although there is never a marshal
And they always over book . Expect a very slow round 5 to 6 hours 🤷♂️
