Located in Little River, S.C., Eagle Nest opened in 1971 and was designed by Golf Course Architect Gene Hamm. The layout is laid out across 250 acres of gently rolling land, rare for a course near Myrtle Beach. The course has been upgraded recently and includes a set of "Perch" tee boxes that play over 8,100 yards, making it the state's longest golf course.

Super senior and player-friendly tee boxes up front have also been installed. This traditional low country layout features not only rolling undulations in it but mature Carolina pines, an abundance of wildlife and beautiful natural landscaping.

Fun layout, but tough

Starter was organized and gave a good course overview prior to us teeing off. Greens had been aerated recently, which is a bit irritating, had lots of sand on them, and it was hard to get a consistent line. It was fairly crowded and the pace was slow, but we still got through in around 4 1/2 hours. Tough course the first time you play, so playing it a couple of times would make it a bit easier. It was in decent shape, other than the sandy greens. and fairly wide open. Hole layout was fun, you get to use every club in the bag. Fees were okay I guess, but I think golf is too expensive overall, so some might feel they’re just fine. I’d play the course again at some point.

Greens under maintenance

All the greens recently plugged and sanded. Putting conditions were poor.

Aerated greens

The course overall was nice. The greens had been aerated recently and anyone who’s played golf knows the ball doesn’t roll smoothly or accurately until they fill in and heal. I will play the course again in the future just hopefully not after greens have been recently aerated. The fairways and tee boxes were in good condition. Staff were friendly, the starter was funny you could tell he likes his job.

Loved the layout.

The course was great even though it rained and had to be cart path only. I loved how the course was secluded and wasn’t surrounded by houses and busy highways. My only complaint was the pace of play. I had to stop short because I was only planning on playing for 4.5 hours. It was going to take over 6 hours for a group of 4 to play 18 holes. I think not letting singles getting paired with1 person and letting to many big groups start behind each other slowed everything up.

Good course for the price and area

Overall this was a great course and the conditions were pretty solid for mid summer, only issues i had was the group in front of us was dragging spikes on the green and really tearing it up (older guy so i get it) but every single putt i had to flatten down a bunch of grass, i informed the pro shop at the turn but the guys only played 9, we were also informed that we could not have 5 in one group (expectedly) and then later ending up running into a 5 some, we had split into a 2 and a 3 prior to teeing but once we saw the 5 we joined up together, assuming it was fine because there was no consequence for them doing it, even though they teed before we did. Staff is super friendly and we will be returning next year!

Good Conditions

This course was in good shape for middle of summer. Some patches of work being done on or near greens but overall was green and running well. I wasn't expecting much here but it was a descent course. Nothing that will blow you away like some other courses in the area but a solid track. I would recommend if looking for something affordable in the area.

Golfnow (Very Disappointed)

Did not play due to severe storms and lightening, when I call Golfnow to explain the situation, hit an automation system, that would not transferred me to a live person. They would not refund or credit my dues and fee. If they feel that losing a few dollars will break them, I don't need them. I plan on cancelling or not renewing my membership.
