Located in Little River, S.C., Eagle Nest opened in 1971 and was designed by Golf Course Architect Gene Hamm. The layout is laid out across 250 acres of gently rolling land, rare for a course near Myrtle Beach. The course has been upgraded recently and includes a set of "Perch" tee boxes that play over 8,100 yards, making it the state's longest golf course.

Super senior and player-friendly tee boxes up front have also been installed. This traditional low country layout features not only rolling undulations in it but mature Carolina pines, an abundance of wildlife and beautiful natural landscaping.

Can’t wait to play again

I played with my dad who plays this course every year. The course had a lot of work done over the past year he said.

I love the layout, the conditions were good, once the course is healed from the construction it will be great!

Nice pro shop, with good selections, great staff inside and out!

Good value

Greens were smoothe and quick and had some character. Tees and fairways well maintained. Last 3 holes are tough. Staff was friendly and genuine. We enjoyed playing here and would definitely come back.

Not what it was hyped to be

The staff there, very proud of their course, dubbed it as "in great condition" and "voted the best course in the area". Not sure if they play anywhere else but was the poorest we have played this week on our golf vacation. The cost, I guess, offsets the condition but would have rather paid a bit more to play elsewhere. Have played Brunswick, (good), Thistle (awesome), The Pearl (good) and Glen Dornoch (great) and this was no comparison. If you're good with a decent layout and ok conditions, the cost savings will be worth it for you.

Great staff and average course

Let me first start by saying that the course was an average to slightly below average. The tee boxes were not well kept. The greens were covered by a protective coating which did not let the putts roll true. The pace of play was slow due to a large outing that went out just before me.. The staff was excellent from the gentleman that ran the cart area to the people in the pro shop. The ranger was also very good. He checked on us frequently but he could not speed up to large groups in front of us. I didn’t rate this course higher because the price did not meet the course conditions.

Beautiful course, tough layout

First time here, really blown away by how great the layout and conditions were. Each hole memorable on its own. Really tough finishing holes. Greens true and VERY fast. Best greens that I played in Myrtle Beach.

Nice course with some tough holes

My wife and I played and for the most part the course was fair and fun. I play the senior tees and the yardages were appropriate until we got to 16 and 17. Long holes with water and thick rough that was a killer for our rounds. The course was wet and cart path only, but still in good condition.

Don’t waste your money here. It’s no deal. Rough was too deep. Fairway is terrible shape and greens were more sand than grass. It’s a playable layout but the maintenance team should all be fired.

Nice Greens

The greens at Eagle Nest were very good. True and consistent. I only wished I had putted better. Not the greens’ fault there. The cart paths though not paved, we’re smooth and in good shape.

Way too wet

Course is a little challenging due to being narrow. People there were nice and friendly. Unfortunately, that's all the positives. It had rained in the area two days before and the course was saturated. Staff said it was cart path only the few days prior and that it was now 90 degrees. In my opinion, the course should have been closed to let it dry out. You would get splashed by driving the cart due to being so wet. Any ball within 150 yards in the fairway was in mud. Pace of play was bad. I can't blame the course conditions because we all had to deal with it and we were waiting at least 5-10 minutes per hole. It wasn't until the back nine when a Ranger forced a group to pick up that the pace picked up. If the course was allowed to dry out, it wouldn't be bad. But I would stay away if there was heavy rains in the area within 3 days of your round.
