Augustine Golf Club
About
Carved from Stafford County's rolling, emerald green hills, Augustine Golf Club plays across a scenic landscape abundant with mature pines and hardwoods. The pristine white bunkers and the lush fairways contrast nicely with the trees. The course conveniently sits just 30 miles from the Washington Beltway. In 2011 when the golf course was acquired by Raspberry Golf Management, who are responsible for several courses in the area, Augustine underwent major renovations that increased its playability. The greens, fairways, rough, bunkers, and tee boxes were all redone. The layout offers a challenge but is gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. Included in a round of golf at Augustine are range balls and unlimited use of the driving range, which has different targets and a large putting green.

Improvement is progressing!
Having read several reviews being highly critical of Augustine I was very hesitant to drive down from Alexandria. After playing this past Tuesday I must say the extremely critical reviews are kind of deceptive. True the tee boxes could use some work and in fact are being given new sod on several holes. The greens are smooth and roll true. There are some, not extensive bare spots in the fairways but calm down and move the ball an inch or two and find some Bermuda grass. If you need perfect conditions go to Potomac Shores and pay 120.00. Finally, there were workers all over the course working to improve the course. Drive down 95 and give the course a chance.
Nicely Laid out
Course was a good value. Driving range was okay, and staff was pretty friendly. Played with a young man who knew the course, Not well marked for yardages, bring your GPS, none on cart. Pretty good up and down fairways, good slope on greens. Plenty of water coolers on course, and restrooms each 9 holes. Liked it and will play it again.
Augustine June 2019
This was my first time playing course. The neighborhood is excellent. Well maintained yards and houses. No problems with parking but I would imagine on a very busy day it could be tight. The club house and pro shop are really nice. Not sure about the dining options as I did not eat at club house. Personnel are nice as well. Talkative and polite. The carts are basic with no usb or gps. They are pretty speedy and were good to drive. The course is a fun course. Open and playable. Bunkers were a bit hard and some parts of the fairways could use thicker coat of grass. Greens were great. Play was pretty slow. Super nice day and everyone decided to get a round of golf in. The course made me want to play it again. I will be back.
Ground Under Repair
This course needs work!! Almost all of the fairways have large sections of ground under repair. The bunker sand is way too thin, like hitting off of bare ground. I should have got a hint by the sparsely filled parking lot at 9:00am on a Saturday
Great layout
One of the better courses in the northern Virginia area. Tee boxes and a few fairway areas were a little spotty, bout overall the course condition was fine. Good value under an hour from DC.
Layout and condition
Course has a very interesting and challenging layout with trees, water, sand, doglegs and blind shots. However the grass was burnt out in the tee boxes and fairways, playing off dirt on many shots. Greens not in good shape and sand needed raked. The course is not being kept up.
Terrible conditions
Played twice last year and it was pristine.
Now fairways are shot and in places completely gone.
This is aside from all the fallen trees and branches which will take some time to pickup.
Lacking
Course was in terrible condition. Tee boxes were horrible, mostly dirt , crabgrass or sand. There was very little grass on any tee box.Fairways were below expectations with significant patches of dirt. Traps were thin on sand and many had canvas liners protruding through the little sand. Course should stop advertising about being top 10 anything. It is a cow pasture with boundaries. I don't golf often but, doubt I would ever play this course again.
Good value
The course was in really good condition considering the storm the night before
Course
The course was very disappointing. The tee boxes need lots of work. Some of the far ways and greens need attention.
One of my favorites
I played this course in the winter and it was tough. I couldn’t wait for summer to come around and really see how hard the course plays. It didn’t disappoint and I will definitely be coming back with friends.
Thank you!
Great Views
Views were great, course set up is challenging yet playable.
With all the growth on greens over the past few months, this course has held up. One of the better kept greens for smooth putting in the area.
If you are debating between courses, go with St. Aug
Golfers Beware
As always the course layout is great but the overall condition of the course is pretty bad. The tee boxes are awful, you might as well play in a sand box, there's more crab grass than grass and you're placing your tee in between crabgrass (not even grass). The fairway isn't any better, there's crabgrass EVERYWHERE and dirt patches. No grass whatsoever. Frustrating when you hit a decent drive only to get to your ball and its wedged in between lumps of crabgrass and dirt.....
The only good part about this course, is their greens (albeit a bit slow) they rolled well and true.
Nice course
Augustine has had maintenance problems in past years. It’s evident they are working to correct them. Greens were very nice, fairways acceptable except in spots, but tee boxes were horrible. I like the course layout. Please focus on fixing the tee boxes and filling in the sparse grass in areas about 100 yards out from the greens.
Improving Conditions
Augustine has recently received some low reviews. However today, I could see vast improvement. The Tees definitely need work; but the condition did not affect play. The greens were in great shape. The fairways will probably be in great shape in a few weeks. It was worth the trip down I-95.
This course has a great layout!
The course layout is very interesting and somewhat challenging; the course condition is good for early in the golf season, and the greens were in good condition and very fast. My one complaint are the condition of many of the Tee-boxes that had very little grass; hopefully, they should be able to fix them sometime soon.
Needs work but still worth playing
Always enjoy playing Augustine because of price and challenging layout. However, definitely needs some TLC. Tee boxes are in need of serious work. This is not the end of the world in the golf world but it is concern. Greens are in nice shape and are very fast. Hopefully the
"Wow" but not a good "Wow"
I have played this course maybe 30 times over the past 10 years and I can honestly say I have never seen it in this condition. The fairways had almost no grass. The tee boxes are horrible. The sand traps weren't much better. If I could rate my experience lower than one full star, I would. Maybe 1/3 of a star. It really was a disappointment for a course that used to be a pleasure to play.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Augustine Golf Club. We hope to see you again in the future.
