Augustine Golf Club
About
Carved from Stafford County's rolling, emerald green hills, Augustine Golf Club plays across a scenic landscape abundant with mature pines and hardwoods. The pristine white bunkers and the lush fairways contrast nicely with the trees. The course conveniently sits just 30 miles from the Washington Beltway. In 2011 when the golf course was acquired by Raspberry Golf Management, who are responsible for several courses in the area, Augustine underwent major renovations that increased its playability. The greens, fairways, rough, bunkers, and tee boxes were all redone. The layout offers a challenge but is gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. Included in a round of golf at Augustine are range balls and unlimited use of the driving range, which has different targets and a large putting green.

Expected better but good course nonetheless
Recent rains kept the course relatively wet so cart path only rules were enforced and made for challenging play. Expected fairways to be in better condition, as they seemed rather sparse in some areas. Greens however were the best I've ever played and consistent from hole to hole. Staff was very friendly and made the day enjoyable.
5/24/16 Augustine
Great challenging course with wonderful customer service.
Up and Down
I used to play this course all the time back around 2004-5. One of my absolute favorites. Fantastic layout, gray conditions. I played it 2 years ago in June and could not believe the conditions. The course looked as if it was Mid January during the harshest winter of all time. It was the only time I have ever wanted to tell the Pro Shop how I felt. I wanted to give it another shot in January so I called the Pro Shop and asked if the course was 'green', because most courses were because of the mellow winter. I arrived and the only 'green' part of the course was some of the fairway rough and the greens. The fairways were as brown as it gets. After the round I was so disappointed that I was lied to by an employee just to get my money that I nicely mentioned something after the round. They took my email down and said they would send me a voucher to come back out and give it another shot. After reading recent reviews I want to do that, give it another shot. However, I never received an email regarding my voucher. Do I give it a shot? I don't know. But man I used to love this course...I have probably played it 15 times despite an hour drive to get there. Hmm....
Excellent greens
Was glad to see the sun for first time in what seems like forever. Course was wide open (Mothers Day) and the sky was clear. Cart path only will wear you out at Augustine. Gusty wind blew debris from trees onto green. That's Mother Nature. No complaints about course. I'm sure we will return.
Give the greens keeper a raise!
First time playing this course this year. The greens were the best I have seen here. It is easy to see the effort put in to make the course better.
Fun Course to Play
Augustine is a local course that reminds me of a Country Club course. First hole is a split fairway but doesn't really matter which one you shoot for. Definitely some challenging holes but you can still enjoy yourself if you are an occasional golfer like myself. They are demonstrating personal "carts" called Golf Boards, looks like fun but in the heat of the sun I like a cart with a roof. Definitely will play again and again.
My Favorite Layout
One of the best layouts I've played. Each hole offers up a different challenge and there sceneries and landscapes are fantastic. The conditions could be a little better, but Augustine has undergone a few ownership changes in the past few years, and it has taken a lot to get it where it is today. Staff is incredibly friendly. Just wish there was a practice bunker/chipping green.
Great design
I think this course has one of the best layouts in northern Virginia. Unfortunately, the fairway grass has not begun to grow and the fairways were thin. When the grass grows in I would give the course conditions another star or two.
There are elevation changes and water comes into play on some holes. The fairways are trapped fairly. The greens were in excellent condition although they had been spiked(small not large aeration holes). Two foursomes allowed us (two) to play through. Staff was very friendly. We will return!
My favorite track
A little chewed up around the greens and rough in spots, but still a great layout and value
Staff was super friendly.
Course was in great shape for the beginning of April. Greens were just aerated. Great shape but super fast. Staff were all smiling and in good moods. Golfing was a great experience. But what day is a bad day of golf? LOL
Not now...maybe later
The fairways had zero grass in them. The greens were decent. There were few water hazards and the bunkers had reasonably good sand. There were a lot of woods off the edges of fairways and most had deep leaves.
The fairways, tees, and rough do not 'have' grass because it is dormant Bermuda grass. It will resume growth and begin 'green up' in the beginning of April.
At the first frost usually in November, warm season grasses go into a dormant state, usually in a blonde color. Near the last frost of spring, it breaks dormancy.
Frist out
This is a beautiful course, it will be even nicer when spring takes hold. Each hole is very different and the pin placements were testing. Staff are great at this course
Early in the season
Got a great deal on GolfNow.com. Course always offers range balls with the round, so this is a plus. Staff was very friendly and helpful. March in the Mid-Atlantic region offers some great days to play golf and the day we played was one of them. It is still early in the season and the course is not in its best condition. Fairway growth is spotty with some weeds growing. Greens need to have some spring conditioning. Lots of ball marks (come on golfers, fix yours and 1 more!). Look forward to playing here in a fe more weeks when the course has a chance to grow in and the greens staff has time to improve the conditions.
A little early
March golf in this area is spotty at best. Augustine is one of my favorite layouts; that being said, the fairways and greens need some early season attention. Not sure if they aerate and top dress in the spring, but the greens are in need of serious attention! Fairways and all bunkers need some work as well! Glad this was a GolfNow round, as the course conditions do not warrant full price yet this spring! Looking forwards to better conditions soon.
Mixed Review
The staff was very friendly and efficient. Pace of play was good. Course had poor layout - had to walk too far from cart path to green and cart path to tee and was either uphill or downhill. The greens were in good condition but a lot of weeds on the fairways.
Long, Long round!
Terrible long round. As a threesome, we had to wait close to 5 minutes between each shot. Club has implemented a three-strike rule for slow players. They only dished out two strikes to the folks in front of us even after calling in after 2/3s of round. The club was fair and apologized by giving us 2for1 discounts for later play.
Great course
The course is very well maintained and the staff has always been friendly and accommodating. It's a challenging course for low handicappers but playable for mid to high handicappers. Only issue is on the first hole (split fairway) if you hit to the right side fairway and drive to the end of the cart path, you have to turn and go all the way back around to reach the green and number two tee, due to the an impassable area that is under construction. Always love playing here- again, great course.
one of my favorite courses in NO VA
Great course somewhat more difficult in cool late season conditions-- wakeup call for first 2 holes can create big numbers ---grass has turned brown in the fairways and greens and rough sandy today--
one of the better Raspberry Trail courses --
driving range and practice putting green adjacent to NO 1 tees makes ontime golfers
Sorry Lads, it was really bad today.
Course was having a tournament which was very non golf. Extremely slow play. We payed for 18 and only played nine. Cart path only which is terrible on this course. Huge problem for everyone. It will be a long time before we come back and that includes the other two players we were with.
We apologize for your negative experience at Augustine. We only host our Greenskeeper Revenge formatted event once annually and it certainly is not how we typically would setup for a normal day on the course. Please contact me at dwieder@raspberrygolfmgmt.com so that we can provide you with a round on us to make up for the negative experience.

5* for Augustine Golf Club
We had a great day of golf at Augustine Golf Club in Stafford, VA. Much of that feeling is a result of great course condition and staff's excellent customer service.
We will most certainly return to this gem.

Thank you for your patronage over the years at Augustine. We look forward to having you come back to visit us soon. The course is in great shape - albeit very wet from the weather the last few weeks. Please contact me directly @ dwieder@raspberrygolfmgmt.com and I can help arrange a tee time.
