Augustine Golf Club
About
Carved from Stafford County's rolling, emerald green hills, Augustine Golf Club plays across a scenic landscape abundant with mature pines and hardwoods. The pristine white bunkers and the lush fairways contrast nicely with the trees. The course conveniently sits just 30 miles from the Washington Beltway. In 2011 when the golf course was acquired by Raspberry Golf Management, who are responsible for several courses in the area, Augustine underwent major renovations that increased its playability. The greens, fairways, rough, bunkers, and tee boxes were all redone. The layout offers a challenge but is gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. Included in a round of golf at Augustine are range balls and unlimited use of the driving range, which has different targets and a large putting green.

Wrong part of the Green
Excellent shape, fairways were a little firm but overall best shape this course has been in since the remodel. Don't miss your approach to far from the pins quite difficult undulated greens.
Dissapointed
Greens very bumpy, lots n lots of diviot marks, pin placements could have avoided these areas., Sand traps almost unplayable, hard as concrete, couldnt get a club under ball at all. Everything else was amazing. Only saw Beverage cart 1 time in 18 holes, but staff was great.
Amazing Round
No, I didn't score well. Augustine was a great value! We arrived early and the staff was super friendly. The course and pace of pulse was perfect. After the round we had lunch in the clubhouse and the Rubeun was amazing! I will be coming back! It was a great day.
Attention needed
Hot day in the 90's. Water coolers had day old water and the water was warm and dribbled out...didn't taste good and definitely not very healthy. The least on a hot day, coolers should have been replenished with ice and fresh water. Told staff after round, didn't seem too concerned. Could have offered us a cold water! Bunkers were in terrible condition. Probably won't return.
Augustine
Course was in good shape. Slow play. Took 5 hours to complete the round. Beverage cart showed up only once and that was not until the back nine.
A Memorable Round of Golf!
We thoroughly this course from start to finish. We were held up in traffic and phoned to say we would miss our tee time. The Pro Shop Staff and Starter were very understanding and fitted us in. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in very good condition and the rough was not too penal. The Course Marshal was in evidence and encouraged the groups in front of us to speed up. The round of golf took 4 hours 15 minutes. The food and beverage cart lady stopped 4 times for us during our round to offer us refreshment.
It is a very attractive course, very well maintained and all the Staff were first class. A most memorable visit, thank you.
Unforgiving OB's
First I'd like to comment on how great the condition of the course was for it being the end of July. No burnout, the greens were smooth and roughs cut a reasonable length. The staff was friendly and we had a great time and round.
My only two complaints were the amount of foliage once you hit OB. If your ball goes even an inch past the rough you can kiss it goodbye. There is no chance of finding it in the Augustine Jungle. I also bought a 6 pack beer special and realized after 5 holes that I was only given 5 beers.
Other then that, this was an extremely nice course and I can't wait to play it again.
Nice course, some maintenance needed
It was too hot to play well - heat index was 110 degrees - hottest day of the year. Because of the heat, not many golfers were playing at my Sunday 2pm tee time so I can't tell you what the pace would be in cooler temps. The fairways, greens and tees were well maintained. Green were very fast. The cart paths were rough in a lot of places and need to be repaved. Shower available in a nice clubhouse. Staff very friendly and helpful.
May be the best value in the DMV
When you are able to get a good price at Augustine (say, $50 or less for a weekend round before noon) then you are probably experiencing the best value in the entire DMV region.
This course is just slightly below Potomac Shores and Westfields, etc. as far as layout and conditions. But only slightly. I'd say it's probably a little better than PB Dye in both areas.
During our round we found this bermuda grass course to be in as good of shape as I've ever seen it. And it's definitely in better shape than 90% of the courses in the region (and trust me, there aren't many I haven't played.)
The course is quite challenging from the blue tees - if you're not driving it >250 yds and keeping it relatively straight, you definitely need to move up a set of tees.
Whether to go for a tough/long shot, or where to miss - you can pretty much see your options on every hole. There are very few blind shots here. You have to use your noggin just as much as you have to make good swings. Greens ran pretty well, although they were getting beat up a bit. People, fix your ball marks, and pick up your darn feet when you're walking on the green! (The staff could also stand to remind players about replacing/filling divots, and repairing ball marks.)
Pace of play was... meh. Not great, but not terrible either. The rangers looked like they were being proactive around the course, but it didn't seem to improve things much. We finished just a bit under 5 hours.
The staff (clubhouse and on-course) were friendly and professional. One complaint: they have a service window for players making the turn and it was closed at 10:30 am on a Saturday; what's up with that?
Anyway, a few minor criticisms, but again this course is such an outstanding value that a few issues can certainly be overlooked.
(Oh yeah, this course would be a 1,000% better if I-95 and its moronic express lanes weren't the embarrassment of the entire federal highway system - 45 minutes to get there from DC and then 1hr 30 min on the way back.)
Friendly and Hospitable
I played as a single on a Friday afternoon with a Military Tee Time and Green fees ($39.00) at 1:36 pm. The starter was very friendly and gave me helpful instructions and wished me a great round as a single. The foursome in front of me waved me through after the first hole and wished me well. The twosome I joined , Ed and John, helped me learn the course as I played it and extended friendship and made it a pleasure to play at the course. The weather was excellent. Some of the bunkers were still wet and not dried out. It was hard to hit off hard dirt from the bunkers without them being raked and loosed. Some bunkers were ok. Drainage in the middle of the fairway caused some shots to be hit with a splat. All in all , a very enjoyable time.
Great course but in a bad location
Always love playing out here, great layout that will test every club in your bag. Greens were in great shape and a marshal was doing a great job maintaining pace of play.
The reason I give this course a 4 star instead of 5 is the HORRIBLE I-95 traffic. If you live in the NOVA area, it will take you a good hour or more to get to the course.
First Time
Nice course, somewhat challenging. Definitely will play here again and recommend it to friends. Placing your shots as opposed to grip it and rip it apply here. Really enjoyed the round.
Very Nice Course!
FIrst time playing this course and we happen to catch it during a very rainy morning. When asked how course drainage was we were told it was very good. This we found to be true. Fairways were in good condition, greens rolled very true and well even after the heavy rain. I would love to play this course again when we're down in the area!
Great Course
One of the best courses I've played. The sand traps were not groomed and the ranged had closed early for cutting. This is the only reasons for 4 stars. We tees off at 5:20pm and got stuck behind a couple for two hole before playing through. Then were behind a group of 2 or sometimes 3? Finished round at 8:40pm almost dark. Will definitely continue to play here.
Great Value for Nice Course
Course is in great shape. Challenging yet not depressing for the amateur golfer. Staff is very accommodating. weekday rate is a steal
Not a good beginner course
Difficult course many obstacles, thick rough, soft sand. Pretty golf cart young lady if you like getting swindled into a few beers haha. Overall great course nice facilities. Food could use a little more work for the in between lunch. Staff is excellent very top notch crew, management is very well orchestrated from the outside looking in. Field Marshall is hilarious and well informed brings charachter to the course. Liked that you could use the putting greens and the range for a bit before your tee time excellent deal for the level Augustine's course probably will go again once I get some more experience overall worth th bang for the buck you will enjoy the heartaches and the good holes.
Nice course, good greens and friendly staff
This was my first time playing this course and I found it to exceed my expectations. The fairways were pretty decent although you need to be able to drive somewhat accurately to stay out of the forests that line each hole. Although the course winds through neighborhoods, you don't really see the homes because of all the trees. The greens are pretty undulating, but don't have a lot of break. Many of the public courses around here have extremely slow greens, so it was nice to see that these had adequate speed and we're in pretty good condition. The layout was nice too.
The staff all seemed very friendly. That was a nice surprise. When I checked in at the pro shop, I wss given directions of where to go and the names of the starter and the cart girl. That was a nice touch. Tom the starter was friendly too. My only complaint was that the driving range is a little short, so if you want to hit driver, you have to go to another spot at the back of the range. Not a big deal, but a little inconvenient. Only other complaint is the heat and humidity here in Virginia. I'm not used to that yet. Otherwise, this is a nice course and if you can go during the week, it is well worth the money. I'll definitely be back.
Great course! Would play here again and again!
The course was in incredible shape, as it always it!! I played awful, but awful at a great place! The course gets better each time I play here! This isn't a place for beginners, but I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good course!
