Overall, this course is one of my favorites in bay area.
The staff in pro shop was so kind and the course was nice. There was some delay because of golf tournament for highschool students.
Great, Quiet Location & Decent Value
Overall, this is a great course nestled away in the hills above Milpitas. The holes are all very manageable and the course is maintained decently. Not a difficult course by any stretch but offers a great variety of holes/looks. The only downside that exists here is that you have to have more than 4.5 hours to complete a round. The clubhouse greed is in effect here; they book tee times just 7 minutes apart so be prepared to wait to tee off EVERY SINGLE HOLE!
Short course, lots of hardpan, would only play if rate is discounted
Played on a Saturday afternoon to get the best rate. I would not pay full price to play this course. It was short (except the par 3s), packed with players, and had a lot of hardpan. Fairways and layout were OK. The rough, if you can call it rough, was short and patchy. I hit several tee shots I though would be good only to find that I had gone through the fairway, through the "rough", and run out on hardpan (blind tee shots and not having played the course didn't help). Plus on the few shots I did spray, the hardpan significantly affected the shot and if I was in bounds I was playing off of concrete. I scratched up a club or two playing off the stuff. The front was worse than the back as I recall.
Greens were somewhat inconsistent, some faster, some slower, nothing special. Not a lot of bunkers (in fact I didn't play from a bunker my whole round). In all another average, slightly over-priced muni course in my opinion. Worth a play, but probably won't be back unless I can get a good discount.
Course is in great condition.
We had a very nice time, played with a nice couple. Course is challenging and in great condition.
Slow play
They need the marshall to make sure everyone is keeping up with the group in front of them. Even though the course was crowded, (not unusual for a weekend), the group in front of us fell behind by at least 2 holes. This kept everyone, beginning with our group, having to wait at the tee box and out in the fairway for them to clear for our next shots. It was very frustrating
Excellent with Marshall keeping track of pace
The course is well maintained. Marshall riding around to make sure the pace of play is good.
Better than Municipal
- Well maintained, better than municipal courses, not as interesting than top courses (not as expensive neither)
- Windy and a little hilly make it a little harder than rated
- Nice restaurant, club house, snack bar and bathroom centrally located
- Play fast on a weekday afternoon
Enjoyable Afternoon of Golf
Myself and some of my usual golfing buddies took the opportunity to play at Spring Valley in Milpitas. We found the course in good condition, with the fairway mostly comfortable to play, some with blind greens for a challenge, but most marked with a pole for an aiming point. The greens can be a bit tricky, as the course is sloped at different angles, so often you can be fooled unless you play close attention.
This course was in great shape. We started at 6:30am
The first time I played this course was over 30 years ago and it was a cow pasture. This morning was perfect. The sun was just starting to come up and the morning dew was glistening all around. I hit my first drive straight. What a great golf course!
Wide open fairways and hardly any traps
Great coarse for a leisure round. No super big challenges.
Great value
The greens are in great shape but not too fast. The fairways are in good condition and there are no really long holes. Great course to practice accuracy (trees) and your short game.
The setting is quite spectacular.
Challenged by wind and tricky greens; somewhat slow play
The wind is a big factor on several holes, both for and against you. Makes you think about what club to use, particularly on a couple of par 3s. I would say that most of the greens are slow but the few that are fast are a big surprise, really have to pay attention to the cut and slope on the greens. This is a course that appears easy but can make it tough if you can't stay in the fairway.
My only complaint would be that the marshals don't really do anything about slow play. Although we managed to play in about 5 hours, there were several times we had 2 groups waiting on the tee.
Always fun to play Spring Valley
I always enjoy Spring Valley for the nice facilities and fun course. I think it is environmentally responsible of them to let the fairways dry out a bit this time of year. Plus, its great for a short hitter to get all that rooooool! I have played here for the last few years and the greens have always been lumpy. Not sure why they can't get them smoother like many other local munis, but it is always this way. Played on a Friday afternoon and got behind a slow group, otherwise we would have finished in about 4-1/2 hours. Anyway, I'll be back!
good course condition
Course conditions were very good, pace was a little slow.
Good course for high handicap players
The putting green is very well maintained, and quite fast.'
Wide fairways makes it forgiving for beginner, intermediate players who are likely to slice the ball. Also the first cut of the rough is fairly low and wide which makes is fairly easy to get out off. The Par 3's are fairly long and was a bit challenging;
The staff is friendly and the 19th hole is very nice.
Slow Pace
Aside from being flat and not all that challenging, the pace of play is extremely slow with a Marshall staff who have no desire to fix it.
Value Golf
Spring Valley is inexpensive and a fun course. I really like the new tee boxes and work they have done around the course.
good course in Milpitas
This is one of my favorite courses in the south bay. The price is good, the staff is nice, and the course is a good mix of challenge. The course is not too difficult as several holes are fairly open.
Great Improvements!
New tee boxes. New irrigation system is being installed. Fairways are hard and fast and the rough is well maintained. I haven't played here in years. Much nicer then I remember.
