North at Los Serranos Golf & Country Club
About
Los Serranos Country Club boasts two championship golf courses, the North and South. The courses sprawl across 300 acres that are a part of the Don Lugo Spanish Land Grant. Both courses offer a different round from one another, allowing players of all skill levels to find something to their liking at Los Serranos. Los Serranos' North golf course is the shorter of the two measuring in at just under 6,700 yards but every course in southern California can make that claim since the South Course boasts the Jack's Black tees, which make it the area's longest course. The North Course was designed with all skill levels in mind. It is more player-friendly than the South but there are still challenges in store thanks to strategically placed Scottish-style bunkers and tight fairways bordered by rough.

Course in great shape
Course in great shape. Greens great shape , pace of play was good 4hrs and 15min. Challenging for every level.
SoCal Charity Classic
Played a charity scramble on the North. Course was in good overall condition and the slow pace was to be expected with a big tourney and very hot temps.
Fun course with good elevation changes and a great clubhouse.
Home Sweet Home
This is a biased review as Los Serranos is my California home course (Johnson Ranch in AZ is #2 home course) and has been since 1963 when the ol' man bought his membership. We've kept our name on the roster since then.
The whole course was in fantastic shape. The only glaring exception was the condition of the bunkers. I was able to take a drop out of a mud puddle in the one bunker that I was in. I checked out the other bunkers and they too were in not so good shape.
But other than that, still is one of the premier courses (North & South) in So Cal.
I highly recommend it!
Better and Better
Everytime I've returned and played either side of Los Serranos I find the course in better shape. The friendly staff make the time that much more enjoyable. I highly suggest paying them a visit.
Great course
Great staff, great course, only thing I would have wanted was a beverage cart or have been recommended to take a couple drinks out with us.
Los Serranos
Nice course be ready for a lot of walking
I always heard great things about this couse
I always heard great things about this course but after playing it was just mediocre too much for the money great clubhouse from the staff
Great Courses at Los Serranos
The North Course is sort of the little brother of the two courses, but it's still a great track overall. The course is in good shape and the greens are fantastic. These are probably the fastest, smoothest greens out of any of the local courses. The layout is shorter than the South course, but I find that some of the holes are actually more challenging despite being noticeably shorter. Pace of play is average here, just depends on the day. Overall, it's a solid value for the price and will provide you with an enjoyable experience.
Slow fivesomes!!
I knew to expect a slow round when booking a Saturday afternoon tee time, but it didn't have to take 4 hours and 45 minutes. However, the fact the the fivesome in front of us got two holes behind made for a rough day. All five waited on the green for all five to finish putting, and they made no effort to speed up, even when I approached them on the 8th hole when they were already a hole behind. It only got worse. The staff and course were great, so I would recommend the course, just don't get behind a slow fivesome.
Decent Value
The course was in decent shape. Greens were like putting on glass. Pace was fairly slow. Had a five-some in front of us but that didn't affect pave since they were also waiting.
good condition
i haven't played here in quite some time, but the course was in good shape like previously. fairways seemed to be fairly green(even with the drought).greens rolled true, but were faster than i remembered.overall,it was a good experience.the bunkers on the entire course were almost like hardpack. mgmt.could do wonders for these bunkers and the playability of the course by filling in with the nice fluffy sand.enough said.good ,fun course.
Love the course challenge
The course was challenging, but their was too many college students qualifiers (walking). That slowed the pace of play.
los serranos north
ok. course is good for average players.
greens
Greens are fantastic. Lightning quick. New greens keeper of 3+years has a made a remarkable change in both courses. I have played here for 40 years and the courses are in the best shape ever. Staff treats you like family.
Frost delay
How can you have a frost delay for an hour when Vellano and Prado had no frost.
You need grass first, before a frost delay.
The fairways are already dead, why the frost delay ?
Why not just cancel tee times during the delay instead of making every single golfer late with several not even finishing.
If your dumb enough to schedule your time at 7am when it's 34 degrees out, you deserve to get cancelled.
Why penalize golfers who know better ?
Los seranos south
Played the south at serrano on Friday the 4th. The greens were in the best shape they've ever been. Take my word I've been playing this course a decade maybe more. That said the pins were in unfair pin positions. I never noticed the slope on the greens until then. It makes sense why the greens are never that good. With the greens getting in better shape they need to rethink their pin placements. That said everything was good. Played in just over 4 hours. The staff was very freindly. The course was in excellent condition. There was almost no wind which is amazing. And I would recommend playing there. Just don't ask for hot coco at the snack shop after the first par 3. They don't have any.
Did not finish round
Sixsome on course. People jumping holes. Teed off at 12:30and only got 15 holes in. Consecutive twosomes playing rather than starter combining groups. Cmon Los Serranos you can do better than that.
Very slow weekend play
Course needs LOTS of water!
Greens were tricky and in good shape
Rough and fairway exactly he same
Patchy holes in ground even in fairway.
We played MIDWEST winter rules
Los Serranos South
Walked the Whites (72.5/133/6743) with RGM2525 for $15 in 3H, 50M playing mid day 10/7. Excellent golf weather, clear, mid 80's & a little breezy.
First time I had played here in probably 20 years and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Only par 74 layout I have ever played, got to love six par 5's!
The course is very challenging to walk, it's long and constantly up/down hills. Additionally, numerous tees are a hike (usually uphill) from the last green.
The tees were fairly level and decent overall. Numerous par 3 tees were fairly chewed up.
The fairways were generally good, I never had bad lies in the fairway.
The rough was hit/miss. More lush closer to the course, you could tell they were concentrating their water in the more played areas. The areas that were weeds/hardpan any half way decent shot isn't going to be in to start with, so no complaints there.
The sand traps were well maintained with nice, fine, high quality sand.
The very large to HUGE greens looked very lush. They are probably 90-95% recovered after recent aeration, still a little bumpy, putting medium slow and holding approach shots well. However, you could see that in 7-10 days they would likely be excellent again once they start mowing them closer.
The customer service was excellent. The guy in the pro shop advised us on which was the better deal to utilize for the best value, which was much appreciated. Nice snack stand out on the course. Good layout, fairly wide open, enough trees/lakes/OB to keep you honest. Five sets of well spaced tees, so pick the ones that fit your game best. Recommended = yes, nearly everything about this course was above to well above average.
Los Serranos North
Played the Blues (71.6/130/6382) with Wangster, RGM2525 & Caligolfer1031 in 4.5 hours on their discounted senior rate of $28 to walk. Had a good time with Andy, Ron & Greg. First time I had played here in over 20 years, I like the layout.
The tees were thin overall, but had decent coverage. A few needed divot repair but I had no issue finding level areas with grass between the markers.
The fairways usually had good coverage, a few bad areas here and there. No complaints with any lies in the fairways.
The rough was occasionally lush and had good overage, probably a 1/2 shot penalty. Tough to get good contact even on short irons on many of the lies I had.
Some in my group were not impressed with the traps, but I thought they were decent overall. Counting fairway traps, I was in 6 total. 4/6 had been nicely maintained with a good amount of dark brown dirt/sand. 2/6 were raked but could have used more dirt/sand.
The smaller sized greens putted nice overall, usually smooth, medium speed, occasionally medium fast speed and held approach shots well.
This is a good middle to slightly above middle of the road course. Very walkable up down rolling hills. Layout is good in my opinion for players of all skill levels with a good variety of holes. No tricked up holes or an abundance of forced carries. Regular rate of $31 to walk A.M. may be a little high, but I thought both the layout and conditions were above average. Recommended.
