Mountain View at Desert Willow Golf Resort
About
The second of two Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designs at Desert Willow resort in Cathedral City, Mountain View is a little shorter (6,913 yards) and boasts wider fairways than the Firecliff Course.
There are also half as many bunkers as at Firecliff. Which still means there are 98 here.
Still, water comes into play more on Mountain View. The course name is no misnomer either. Golfers actually do get great views of the Santa Rosa Mountains as they take on Hurdzan's desert landscaping. This is resort golf with real nature touches.

Mountain View
Played the Purple tees (6507/71.2/128) in 4H, 25M. Matched up with Dan, Alan and Wayne for a fun round. The weather was 70ish, overcast and calm.
The tees were mostly lush with only the par 3 tees needing divot repair.
The over seeded fairways were lush with few unfixed divots. Nice to play from.
The over seeded rough is lush/excellent. Great coverage, not too deep, the ball usually sat up. Also good to chip out of around the greens.
The traps were decently maintained with good quality sand.
The large greens putted medium speed, were firm/smooth and very consistent from green to green. Irons released somewhat, so take that into account on approaches.
This layout is not quite as tough or picturesque as it's sister Firecliff course. However, it's still an challenging course that is fun to play.
The customer service has been excellent every round I have played here. Drink cart out making the rounds & complementary range balls are included with your round on a very nice practice facility. I enjoy this layout and look forward to playing here again. Definitely recommended.
Fun Course to Play
This is a fun course to play. It is well designed and is not to easy and not to hard. Good shots are rewarded. Greens rolled very well. I look forward to coming back and playing the other course as well.
Above average
Not a great course but in very good condition. Played the Mountain View course and the first 8 holes are excellent but the rest of the course winds among the condos and villas. Detracts from the experience.
Great courses
Fire cliff or Mountain View you can’t go wrong at Desert Willow. Courses are in fantastic shape play is rapid without backups
Great course; not as good as Firecliff side
While I would certainly recommend this course and had a great time here, I would recommend the Firecliff course if you only had time for one round at this great facility. The layout and hole variety on this side just felt a little more vanilla than the superb Firecliff course. However the course conditions, service and all around property would add this course to my recommendation list for this area. Range and clubhouse are top notch here also.
Almost 5 stars
Played with my wife and paired with two wonderful Canadian gents. I am an improving 17 handicap, found the course layout challenging but quite manageable. Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted at the bag drop by 3 friendly and helpful young men who grabbed our clubs and pointed us toward the clubhouse.
Similar friendly and professional staff at check in and Marshall station.
The course is immaculate, tee boxes, fairways, rough and greens were immaculate and a real pleasure.
The only negative to the day was a remarkably lame ground crew over the course of 3 holes. One gent stopped his large mower while we were hitting but numerous others continued there work and noise even when right on top of us. While my wife was in her backswing on a tee box a worker actually fired up a chain saw within 20 feet of her. By the third hole these guys were affecting our game. After about 50 years of golf, I can honestly say that this was the most rude ground crew in memory. What a shame as the rest of the staff seem to go to extremes to insure a Nordstrom experience for the customer.
I would highly recommend Desert Willow and will return as often as possible, but strongly suggest that management spend some time working with the ground crew.
Excellent value!
Had not played in a few months and wanted to start our golf vacation with nice course with a moderate challenge. The mountain course is the perfect start for any golf vacation and the location is great.
Alternate
Course needs some tender loving care. Greens very slow and barely average condition. Firecliff is the alternate course and is much better.
Beautiful!
A picture perfect golf course!. Everything in order:
Challenging-yes , Fun - Yes, , all landscaping as perfect as Disneyland -type gardens-Yes. The only thing lacking was the refreshment stand was closed on the 9th tee. We would definitely return.
I will be back
This is a must do course although it is pricey the layout is great and fun to play. They have great practice facilities and the overall experience is awesome for every golfer. Stay for a meal the patio is a wonderful location with great food and spectacular view of the 9th and 18th green.
Really nice course
This course is great the greens are great and getting close to seasonal speed. The overall course is really fun and has lots of great visuals on each hole. I would play it again although the price is fairly pricey.
If you have time grab a bite on their patio which has a great view of the 9th and 18th green.
Great Fun
Fabulous course in great shape. Challenging and fair. Greens were a little slow, but expected for this time of year.
A don’t miss stop if you are in the Palm Springs Area.
Beautiful and challenging
Terrific course, great layout, highly manicured with lost of sand protecting the greens. The greens are predictable with lots of undulations. I recommend this course, a great example of excellent valley golf.
Unbelievable
Bisbises the classic course thus is the best. Course condition excellent. Up and down and water and sand. Lots of variety
Staff professional and on top of it thanks. Alan
