Mountain View at Desert Willow Golf Resort
About
The second of two Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designs at Desert Willow resort in Cathedral City, Mountain View is a little shorter (6,913 yards) and boasts wider fairways than the Firecliff Course.
There are also half as many bunkers as at Firecliff. Which still means there are 98 here.
Still, water comes into play more on Mountain View. The course name is no misnomer either. Golfers actually do get great views of the Santa Rosa Mountains as they take on Hurdzan's desert landscaping. This is resort golf with real nature touches.

Best service in the desert
I felt like I was checking into the Waldorf Astoria. Every aspect of my round was accommodated by the staff - they are the true differentiator at this course.
Mountain View
Played the Blues (6507/71.5/128) using Forelinx. Matched up with Bob from Seattle, we played in 3H, 50M. The weather was calm, clear and in the mid 60's.
Really solid course, not tight but at least as difficult as the ratings indicate. Native/desert scape down both sides of most holes, so penalty shots are lurking everywhere. However, most fairways are generous in width. The layout is well above average even by the high standards of the Palm Springs area. I like this 18 equally as much as the sister Firecliff course even though everyone I hear commenting seemingly feels like Firecliff is the better of the two. Beautiful course and clubhouse.
The tees were mostly lush with only the par 3's in need of dicot repair.
The fairways were firm with a decent amount of roll. Over seeded, they both looked and played nice.
The ball generally sat up in the rough and playing even longer clubs still a viable option. Nice to chip out of.
The traps were nicely maintained with good quality sand.
The greens putted medium fast, were smooth with few ball marks and were firm. Very nice!
The customer service has been beyond excellent every round I have played here. Drink cart out making the rounds & complementary range balls are included with your round on a very nice practice facility. I enjoyed the layout and look forward to playing here again. Definitely recommend this course.
Desert Willow - Mountain View
Played the Blues (6507/71.5/128) using Forelinx. Matched up with Jason & Scott, 2 vacationing Canadians. The weather was clear, in the 60's and WINDY. POP was exactly 4 hours. We played quickly at our own pace until #8, where we caught groups in front of us and basically waited on every shot the rest of the round from that point. Solid course, not overly tight but at least as difficult as the ratings indicate, especially in heavy winds. Native/desert scape down both sides of most holes, so penalty shots are lurking everywhere. However, most fairways are generous in width. Not many holes with a "wow" factor, but 18 consistently good holes of golf. The tees were mostly lush with the par 3's having alot of divots. The fairways were over seeded and very nice. Firm with a decent amount of roll. The rough was also at least partially over seeded and usually good to play out of. The traps were nicely maintained with good quality sand. The greens were good. They putted smooth with few ball marks and were firm, almost too firm on chips in the wind. However, they were medium speed at best, and after playing on quick greens recently, it was a challenge to get the ball to the hole consistently. The customer service was A+ outstanding from the attendant when you drive up all the way to the attendants that clean you clubs after the round. Drink cart out making the rounds & complementary range balls are included with your round. I enjoyed the layout and would not hesitate to come back or recommend this course.
Outstanding Views
The course was only open for 3 days so the greens were slow but the course was just beautiful and I can imagine totally awesome with fast greens.
excellent course conditions
The course was in excellent shape. pace was very enjoyable. We kept moving on every hole.
Nice place to play
106 degrees when we played and the course was in great condition. Some dry spots but you can't expect perfection in the summer in the desert! Staff is really nice and friendly. Paid 35$ on Golfnow, great deal.
Great Day
Played here for the first time. The weather cooperated and was very nice. The overall course was in excellent condition. The staff was friendly and helpful. This course offers several Tee locations to challenge multiple skill levels. Fairways are wide and forgiving and allow for recovery of errant shots. despite the recent hot spell, the greens rolled true, but were a bit slow.
Overall, I enjoyed the round and will play again!
Sand wedge in paradise
The course is in great shape and has some very interesting holes but looking out of most tee boxes you'll see numerous sand bunkers. The course is long and challenging. Bring your sand wedge.
Best public course in the dsert
Great facility with 2 great courses. Can't go wrong with the prices either.
Great course for value.
Course was in great shape. Play was a little slow..4 1/2 hours to play.
demanding greens
The greens were fast with a lot of movement. You had to be able to read the subtleties in pace and line. Bunker sand was excellent and I am always impressed that the grounds crew is always tending to the course.
Great Value in the Valley
This was a pleasure to play from a scenic perspective and course layout perspective. A must play if you travel to the valley
One Beautiful yet challenging Golf Course
There are alot of courses to choose from in the Palm Springs area, We always make it a point to play here, the course is very well maintained and very scenic. It is also very challenging, actually there are two courses, we prefer firecliff, but each is equal in beauty, I strongly advise playing here, yu will not be dissapointed.
scenery
course great but greens scuffed up overall condition very good
Best In the Valley
Played Firecliff last season and Mt. View this season. This is my favorite course in the valley....even in the off season. Great pride goes into this facility from the bag drop off, grounds crew, pro shop and the food is great. From Nov. - Feb. this place shines!!
Desert Jewel
Played the Mountain course, excellent condition except for the greens which were disappointedly soft, spongy, and in need of a roll and a mow. Sand traps could have used a bit more sand in them. Fair test of golf in a gorgeous setting. Clubhouse and amenities were first rate. Friendly staff. Showers and lockers available. Hot as heck but, hey, its the desert. I would definitely return!
First Time Playing this Course
Have wanted to play for a while. Course is relative flat, which is important to me. You should pay attention to the GPS on the cart, as it will show you hazards within holes of play. I didn't pay enough attention as I had my own rangefinder. My only real complaint is that the greens fee was more expensive than I thought it should have been since it was still in the summer, hot season of the desert. The range was also closed. The greens were EXTREMELY SLOW!
Everything good BUT,
Nice tee, fairways and overall layout. All greens are rolling with ups, downs and breaks and double breaks making for a challenging day for putting.
I'd give this course four or five stars if it wasn't for the condition of the greens. It was impossible to get a true and smooth roll on the ball. They were bumpy and bouncy and extremely SLOW. It seemed these greens were about twice as slow as any others I have played in the area.
Too bad......
A Therapeutic Experience
A beautifully conditioned and manicured golf course in the middle of the desert. Almost every hole is a photo opportunity. It is a scenic experience. The course is like 'eye candy' making the golf round very enjoyable.
The highlight for me is the abundance of small wildlife scurrying throughout the property and birdlife throughout the course.
Very enjoyable time in the middle of challenging golf.
Nice Round
Considering it's summer the course was in great shape. Had a great day. Would go back in a heartbeat.
