Mountain View at Desert Willow Golf Resort
About
The second of two Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designs at Desert Willow resort in Cathedral City, Mountain View is a little shorter (6,913 yards) and boasts wider fairways than the Firecliff Course.
There are also half as many bunkers as at Firecliff. Which still means there are 98 here.
Still, water comes into play more on Mountain View. The course name is no misnomer either. Golfers actually do get great views of the Santa Rosa Mountains as they take on Hurdzan's desert landscaping. This is resort golf with real nature touches.

Definitely play this course
It was our first time playing in Palm Springs area and glad that we played Desert Willow. It was about a 100 degrees the day we played at the end of September and the course was a little brown but it was very scenic and they take great care of it. The staff took great care of us and there was plenty of water out on the course.
Pretty layout
I played the mountain course for the first time. The course is getting ready for overseed so they are not keeping the greens up to normal conditions. They were very bumpy and slow. The course is very pretty and each hole is separate from the other. When you are on the course, you feel like you're out in a rural area it's so unique. No housing impees on the course. Very nice.
Love the layout
Great conditions, rough extremly thick
Love this cours
Love this course, this was my second time playing here and now I see way a wanted to play it again. Great layout, good greens and just like the fist time very friendly staff.
I would recommend this course to all my golfing pals
A most Excellent Day of Golf
Arrived early to use the practice facilities which were terrific. Full driving range, chipping green and putting green. The Mountain course did not have sandtraps for practice which would be nice with the amount of sand on the course. The round itself was almost perfect. A few of the fairways where recently aerated which left quite a few little dirt plugs through out the fairway. But there was enough room to the sides that you could effectively miss these areas without affecting the play of the hole. The greens were aerated a few weeks ago and played a wee bit slow but rolled pretty true. There are a couple of blind shots so pay attention to the gps on the cart. The staff could not have been any better, extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely play this course again and recommend it to all that come to our desert.
Great Day of Golf in the Desert
The course was in very good condition. Staff was very friendly. Plenty of water and ice available throughout the course. Pace of play was great! I teed of alone at 9:30 and was done by Noon. Two groups let me play through. Greens were true but a little slow. Despite the heat of the desert summer the course has been maintained well. A must play!
Greens awful
It gets me mad when there is no indication on Golfnow that greens have been recently punched. It was virtually impossible to put on these greens from more than 3 feet. Some courses will give warning but others just want to suck you in.
Summer Golf at Desert Willow
Having played Desert Willow Mountain View course once before in the winter, my expectations were high. It's a greet track, the staff is excellent and the course conditions were awesome. Not so much this summer.
Staff remains great, friendly, and attentive, but the course conditions were horrendous. Maintenance crews were working on probably every other hole. Every green had sustained significant damage. Bottom line, they probably ought to close the Mountain View course for about a month to get it into a playable condition.
I would play this course in the winter, but not the summer.
Nice
Always a Very Nice golf experience on this course....
Great Golf Course and Clubhouse
I have played here multiple times and whenever we come here, lunch is first, then book for the next round. Wonderful place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner on the deck and watch the golfers or just to admire the scenery.
Challenging but doable
Not an easy course, but not cruel like others. My son and I had a great round of golf, lots of fun and an overall excellent experience. The only negative was that the beverage cart showed on the third hole and then not again until 17. But...that's a small price to pay for such an awesome day!
One of the nicer courses in the area.
Very challenging and in excellent condition except the greens had just been aerated.
condition of greens
Everything was the best. This course was a top 10. I will be playing it again and again. The view was super also on Mountain View. The problem we had, we could not play proper was they plugged the greens and did not tell us. We all were single digit golfers and we felt we could not play to our fullest. The bar was closed because of a large group was coming, not good.
Well worth the visit!
Beautiful design, friendly staff, great time would go again .
Awesome
One of the best courses I've ever played. Beautiful desert course, generous off the tee, great greens. Everything was in perfect condition. Played on Saturday. Course was busy but we still finished in just over 4 hours. Definitely will go back!!!
Mountain View
Played the Blues (6507/71.5/128) using Forelinx. Matched up with Betty Ann, David & Buzz, we played in 4H, 20M. The weather was breezy, clear and in the mid 80's.
The tees were lush and even the par 3 tees were not in need of divot repair. Easily some of the best tees I have played on in quite some time.
The lush over seeded fairways had very few unfixed divots, nearing immaculate status. They were firm and provided a decent amount of roll.
The ball generally sat up in the over seeded rough and playing even longer clubs was still a viable option. Also good to chip out of around the greens.
The traps were nicely maintained with good quality sand. Had 3 sand saves in the same round for one of the few times in my life, a testament to the quality of both the sand and the greens.
The greens putted medium fast, had few ball marks and were firm. SMOOTH, get it on the right line and watch it drop! They do not look as good as the Firecliff greens but they roll equally as nice, maybe better.
The customer service has been superb every round I have played here. Drink cart out making the rounds & complementary range balls are included with your round on a very nice practice facility. Breakfast burrito & Arnold Palmer were a little pricey but good in the restaurant.
This is a challenging course that is at least as difficult as the ratings indicate. Not quite as tough or picturesque as it's sister Firecliff course, but it's still an excellent course overall. I enjoy the layout and look forward to playing here again. Definitely recommend this course.
Best service in the desert
I felt like I was checking into the Waldorf Astoria. Every aspect of my round was accommodated by the staff - they are the true differentiator at this course.
Mountain View
Played the Blues (6507/71.5/128) using Forelinx. Matched up with Bob from Seattle, we played in 3H, 50M. The weather was calm, clear and in the mid 60's.
Really solid course, not tight but at least as difficult as the ratings indicate. Native/desert scape down both sides of most holes, so penalty shots are lurking everywhere. However, most fairways are generous in width. The layout is well above average even by the high standards of the Palm Springs area. I like this 18 equally as much as the sister Firecliff course even though everyone I hear commenting seemingly feels like Firecliff is the better of the two. Beautiful course and clubhouse.
The tees were mostly lush with only the par 3's in need of dicot repair.
The fairways were firm with a decent amount of roll. Over seeded, they both looked and played nice.
The ball generally sat up in the rough and playing even longer clubs still a viable option. Nice to chip out of.
The traps were nicely maintained with good quality sand.
The greens putted medium fast, were smooth with few ball marks and were firm. Very nice!
The customer service has been beyond excellent every round I have played here. Drink cart out making the rounds & complementary range balls are included with your round on a very nice practice facility. I enjoyed the layout and look forward to playing here again. Definitely recommend this course.
Desert Willow - Mountain View
Played the Blues (6507/71.5/128) using Forelinx. Matched up with Jason & Scott, 2 vacationing Canadians. The weather was clear, in the 60's and WINDY. POP was exactly 4 hours. We played quickly at our own pace until #8, where we caught groups in front of us and basically waited on every shot the rest of the round from that point. Solid course, not overly tight but at least as difficult as the ratings indicate, especially in heavy winds. Native/desert scape down both sides of most holes, so penalty shots are lurking everywhere. However, most fairways are generous in width. Not many holes with a "wow" factor, but 18 consistently good holes of golf. The tees were mostly lush with the par 3's having alot of divots. The fairways were over seeded and very nice. Firm with a decent amount of roll. The rough was also at least partially over seeded and usually good to play out of. The traps were nicely maintained with good quality sand. The greens were good. They putted smooth with few ball marks and were firm, almost too firm on chips in the wind. However, they were medium speed at best, and after playing on quick greens recently, it was a challenge to get the ball to the hole consistently. The customer service was A+ outstanding from the attendant when you drive up all the way to the attendants that clean you clubs after the round. Drink cart out making the rounds & complementary range balls are included with your round. I enjoyed the layout and would not hesitate to come back or recommend this course.
Outstanding Views
The course was only open for 3 days so the greens were slow but the course was just beautiful and I can imagine totally awesome with fast greens.
