Mountain View at Desert Willow Golf Resort
About
The second of two Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designs at Desert Willow resort in Cathedral City, Mountain View is a little shorter (6,913 yards) and boasts wider fairways than the Firecliff Course.
There are also half as many bunkers as at Firecliff. Which still means there are 98 here.
Still, water comes into play more on Mountain View. The course name is no misnomer either. Golfers actually do get great views of the Santa Rosa Mountains as they take on Hurdzan's desert landscaping. This is resort golf with real nature touches.

Simply stunning! Photo submitted by ForeinSD on 05/09/2017
Course not in great condition right now
I have played Desert Willow previously and was looking forward to showing how great a course it was to our friends. I was disappointed and embarrassed at the course conditions. The fairways were burnt in a lot of places and the greens were very bumpy and long. I don't think I'll be booking this course for a long time. Very disappointed
Great Conditions
The entire facility is 1st class. From the range to the course, you will not be disappointed with this club. They are very organized with a starter and a full range. Several of the bunkers were being worked on which was the only negative. The course is in tip top condition for being at the end of the summer in Palm Desert.
Mountain View
Played the Blues (6507/71.5/128) in 4H, 20M. Thanks to DW for having us out! After a nice lunch, went out for 18 more with Roarsown1, Adigitalg87 & Rudyclub. Robert, Gus and Tim are excellent guys to play with! The weather was breezy, clear, muggy and around 100... the heat was affecting us all by the final 9 of the day!
from tee to green, Mountain View was in almost as good of condition as the immaculately maintained Firecliff course we played in the morning. First thing we noticed was that the tees/fairways were mowed closer. However, the greens were a huge step down from Firecliff.
The Bermuda tees were mostly lush with only the par 3 tees needing divot repair.
The lush Bermuda fairways had very few unfixed divots. They were firm and provided a decent amount of roll.
The ball generally sat up in the Bermuda rough and playing even longer clubs was a viable option. Also good to chip out of around the greens.
The traps were nicely maintained with good quality sand.
The greens were disappointing. Medium slow and bumpy, not nearly as good as Firecliff. I did notice that they seem to be in the process of changing the shape of and expanding several greens.
The customer service has been superb every round I have played here. Drink cart out making the rounds & complementary range balls are included with your round on a very nice practice facility. Lunch in between rounds got high marks from everyone, the quantity and quality was excellent.
This is a challenging course that is not quite as tough or picturesque as it's sister Firecliff course, but it's still an excellent course overall. I enjoy the layout and look forward to playing here again. Definitely recommend this course.
A God resort course
Good course; however, the Firecliff course is a better course. Would recommend that one over the Mountain course
Wow, what course, perfect shape. Very good job on maintaing that course, I have to say thats the best course ive played this year.
Wonderful golfing experience
My friend and I were thrilled with our wonderful golfing experience at Desert Willow! The layout of the course was beautiful. We had a great pace of play. The staff was extremely friendly and accomondating. I had one of my best rounds there and was thrilled to shoot 87 (with an 8 on the last hole). When we finished playing the restaurant was closing but opened up long enough for us to order delicious hamburgers and fries. This was a great golf experience!
Great Experience
Great overall experience. Friendly staff and nice facilities. Glad that hey were very accommodating with our Guide Dog in Training (long story). Course was in great shape and a fun play. Do like the ambience and challenge of the track. The only complaint was some of the greens were a little burned out in spots. Think this might have been due to maintenance a few weeks back. Didn't hurt putting surfaces too badly though. Overall one of the top golfing facilities in the Palm Springs area and definitely worth the play.
Don`t miss this one
Awesome course. I actually played the "firecliff" course. Got done with an earlier round elsewhere ahead of schedule by almost 2 hrs so the starter was great in getting Me out earlier.
A most excellent course
Very lush for being in the desert. Fairways in tremendous shape, greens a little bumpy from their last aeration.
Mountain View Trumps Firecliff
Was tired of Firecliff with all the fairway bunkers...totally out of control both the number and depth of those fairway bunkers. Had always played that course cause it appears tougher and that's what people say. Being a 5 handicap, I like harder courses. But, found Mountain View to be just about perfect blend of difficulty and fairness. The course fairways and rough were in perfect condition. The greens had just been aerated so were a little slow. If I go to Desert Willow ten times in the future, I'll play Mountain View 7 times and Firecliff 3. Pleasantly surprised by the Mountain Course!
Well Manicured
Fabulous golf course. The tee boxes, fairways and rough were pristine. The bunkers were filled with plenty of sand and playable. The Greens had been recently punched and were slow. However, they rolled pretty true for having been punched. Once the greens come back this will be one of the finest public/resort courses in Coachella Valley. Course was not difficult if you play the correct tees. Good shot were rewarded and bad shots could be overcome. Look forward to playing again.
Fantastic Desert Golf
Great course, great conditions and great staff. Early tee time cause it's starting to heat up. They could have had more drink carts on course. A must play.
Wonderful course and staff!
Beautiful and well cared for course. The fairways are greens were excellent and well manicured. Perfect weather to enjoy a wonderful girls golf day!
The staff were so friendly and accommodating! We ended this great day of golf with a excellent lunch at the Roadrunner restaurant!
Will be back!
Super Sunday
We had a 7 am tee time, on the Mountain View Course. This course is amazing. It will be one of my favorite Desert Golf courses, along with Classic Club, and Silver Rock. Loved the layout. Greens were awesome and the course was stunningly beautiful. Have played in some real heat, but the 80 degree weather just added to the overall experience. Will play this course each time that I can.
