Nice course but some bunkers need work.
The bunker on the number 12 was full of what looked like gofer holes. So I had to play it as ground under repair. It should have been signed as such.
The course itself was fun to play, but I had to jump around to different holes because of the fivesomes that I came up on.
A message to Golf Now, my tee time was 12:30 p.m., not 7:30 A.M.
Marshall no where in sight
The front 9 was fine, nobody in front is us so the pace was perfect. When we got to the back 9 however things changes completely. There was a 4 some in front of us (I was a 2 some) and you could tell they were there just for fun. They would take several minutes inbetween everyone's shot and they would drive the cart right up to the green and park their cart. On a couple holes there were carts sitting there like they were supposed to trick you thinking it was a Marshall watching. The sand traps were in terrible shape and a majority of them had weeds growing in them. I think they flooded the course over night with water because there were puddles all over the course including some of the fairways. My first and last time playing here.
Unplayable pace
Memorial Day, so of course it is crowded. But the pro shop made zero attempt to manage groupings and start times. No starter. Groups of 1 or 2 we’re playing slow and refusing to group up into foursomes. Take control of your tee times and groupings.
fun course
course is a fun one, good lay out, nice surroundings, nice people. The course itself looked like it was still recovery from the wet season though. little rough out there in some spots, mud, dry spots, they were reseeding the which was the good thing. Overall i liked the course and play
So So Course
This is one of the few public courses in Napa. It has a decent layout with plenty of challenge for every golfer. However the course drains poorly and upkeeep is mediocre. Often times one of the par 4's is even turned into a 60 yard par 3 due to the fairway conditions. Furthermore their staff aren't that friendly or accommodating. Check out Chardonnay or Eagle Vines when in the Napa Valley.
Deforestation.....so sad!
Used to play this course about once a month (ten years ago), and liked everything about it.....except the greens, which were fuzzy and way too slow. But the layout was interesting and the scenery beautiful and calming. Many, many mature trees, lots of water, and postage stamp (mostly elevated and slightly domed) greens: So played yesterday (introducing a good friend to the course) w/ mixed expectations. Expecting the beautiful trees everywhere and also expecting (but hoping not so much) the slow greens.
I was wrong on both counts. The greens were in great condition....and, to my surprise, firm and pretty fast. However, I was and am greatly saddened by the massive number of trees they've lost (and are in the process of losing). All of them, it appears, are pines that died (are dying) do to the drought of 2 years ago and/or disease brought on by the drought. I feel so badly for Napa County and the course management that are having to experience this. It's truly heartbreaking to behold. That said, there remains quite a number of healthy mature trees (non-pines mostly) and I hope the county will be quick with plantings of fast growing, hearty species that will return some of the course's lost beauty......although it will take many, many years, as most of the pines lost were likely close to 100 years in age and older. I still recommend this course for it's creative, classic layout and wish Napa County and the management all the best in it's ongoing battle w/ nature.
Average
Poor coarse conditions. Lots of dead areas. When they mow the lawn they don’t remove the clippings/ cut grass. There are clumps of dead cut grass everywhere. Signs and logos are in run down poor condition.
Great course. Poor players.
I think this course and staff should do a better job of reiterating golf etiquette to clueless people. We were stuck behind a couple groups so the group behind us thought it would be OK to hit into us three times. I sent their balls straight into the water for them. Unfortunately it’s obviously all about the money because if it wasn’t you would never let incompetent people on the course.
Bunkers
Too many pebbles in the bunkers, especially when it's packed down with the sand.
I do carry a SAND WEDGE, but I don't carry a club that will move pebbles. To Blue Rock's credit, they did manage to get a two man crew out to groom the bunker's when we were playing in the afternoon. We as golfer's would be better served, if the bunker's were groomed first thing in the morning, instead of in the afternoon. Then we wouldn't be having this conversation.
It's the attention to the little things, that bring golfer's back.
Love playing here
Such a fun course to play, it's just too bad they can't afford to keep it in the condition everyone would like. It's a little funky in design in some respects, but in a fun way. Lots of water around to punish you is you don't hit it straight. When the fairways improve with spring and summer weather, it will be even more fun, but you can enjoy it right now if you are not to fussy about playing clean and replace.
Napa Golf Course
The greens were awful. Somebody improperly trained did the worst flag replacements in the world the previous flag placement was loose and had cracks and I have never played on greens with so many deviations from digits and brown spots
Course in good condition, only negative thing I have to say is, fairways run next to each other . With the weekend golfers makes for the possibility to get hit by a ball .
A Napa course worth the drive. Course conditions have been excellent.
Enjoy playing each week this pass 2 years. Winter golf has been better than expected . Looking forward to playing again next week.
Never ever have the greens been awful here. I play to a +2, and have played here and elsewhere for over 20 years regularly. Needs TLC but great track
